70 Camaro project

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...538/jalgJL.jpg
Ben Hermance finished up this rendering for me a few months ago and I'm finally getting around to starting a build thread. Ben did a great job as always and nailed exactly what I was trying to achieve with this build.

This is a list of what's planned

Wegner Automotive 441CI LS7
Centerforce DYAD clutch
T56 Magnum trans
DSE 12 bolt rear with full floater, Trutrac diff, 33 spline axles
6S 14” Baer Brakes and Remaster master cylinder
DSE Quadralink
DSE subframe
C&R Radiator w/ oil and steering cooler
AutoRad radiator support

C7 Vette Laguna Blue

Carbon Kustoms carbon fiber hood, nose, front fenders, inner fender wells
Anvil Auto deck lid, rear spoiler, mirrors
Carbon Fiber front and rear bumpers
Front Spoiler/Splitter from D&Z Customs
Custom dash with Dakota Digital VHX gauges

Tires - 315/30/18 front - 335/30/18 rear
Wheels as shown Formula 43 Rad14 (but I also really like the Forgeline GA1R) GRRR I can't decide

glassman 07-13-2015 09:27 PM

Very nice indeed. Love that color, hope it goes quick and comes out just like the rendering.....:popcorn2:

Gonna be slick Steve!

Pics please :D

Vince@Meanstreets 07-14-2015 12:49 AM

Killer idea

Lets see some sheet metal

Awesome rendering!
Love that your putting 315's under the front!

slenning 07-14-2015 10:31 AM

I knew I wouldn't get away without posting pics for very long. lol I've actually been working on this off and on for a while now (too long). But I did re-restore my 69 SS396 Camaro motor and suspension along the way, and the seemingly never ending tweaking on my "finished" LS769.

Back to the 70
Here's what I started with. I of course thought it was a better starting point than it really was.

This is a 305/19 mounted on an 11" rim. (Spare set of wheels and tires for my Z28 for street use). Plenty of room for a 315 I think. This is the Carbon Kustoms fender.

Very nice and I can't wait to watch the progress

Thanks Vince. I'll try to stay in order now:lol:
AND try to get up to date:confused18:
Btw. That Entropy fan controller I got from you for my 69 worked out very well. Thanks

slenning 07-18-2015 08:40 AM

The new floor pan and trunk are welded in. That's a lot of spotwelds!
http://imageshack.us/a/img673/2905/DPrEVI.jpg
A set of DSE mini tubs was next
http://imageshack.us/a/img901/1331/MK4x5P.jpg
DSE Quadralink
http://imageshack.us/a/img673/4504/NcdV8S.jpg

slenning 07-18-2015 09:04 AM

Quarters came off next. Fitting the new outer wheel house and trunk drop off.

looking great. Don't you just love welding on new sheet metal.

I started out with quarters and tail panel from Classic Ind. They fit lousy:bang: I spent way too much time on those pieces of crap and then ordered some AMD parts. Much better fit, crisper lines, door gaps are very good already. Got a little work to do with the gap to the Anvil deck lid. The Anvil parts are of course very nice.

Car looks great and ditto on the crappy parts. I ended up finding NOS parts and some original parts (have more stuffed in my warehouse) because trying to get the aftermarket stuff to line up sucked.

Thanks Marty! Yeah most of the repro stuff is junk. I was very surprised at how good the AMD stuff was. I used OER quarters on my 69 and they fit very well too.

slenning 07-19-2015 09:39 AM

Those last pics show a pretty good view of the adjustable body cart that my son Taylor and I built. Here's a closer view

Taylor cut these out on his water jet. He's got a water jet and fabricating business that he operates in the same building as my "toy" shop. He also does all of my welding for me because he laughs when I try :_paranoid:

Jay Hilliard 07-19-2015 09:51 AM

Great color choice, progress and really like the sliders for the cart. What made you decide to stick with 12 bolt vs 9"?

syborg tt 07-19-2015 12:29 PM

Steve if it not to late now would be a good time to do the outer wheel house modification to give you a little extra room when the car squats down and rubs the outside of the tire.

Vince if you have a picture of what I am talking about can you please post it as I can't seem to find it.

ps Vince I think you were the one that posted it for me once before.

It is not too late! I haven't welded the quarters on yet as I wanted to get the carbon fenders here first. They flare out approximately 1 1/2 and now that they're here I've been trying to decide if I want or need to pull the quarters to match. I was messing around with building some flares originally something like this but figured I didn't have the talent to pull it off :waveflag:
http://imageshack.us/a/img538/7341/mKyvSv.jpg

I need to decide pretty quick so I can get the rearend and wheels ordered.:hairpullout:
Vince if you have the picture of the wheel house mod I would appreciate it. Thanks

Thanks a lot Jay. I haven't ordered the 12 bolt yet because of the reason in the post above. ie "I can't make up my damn mind" lol.
I am starting to lean towards the 9" more and more even though I've always been one of those "ain't gonna be no ford parts in my car" guys.
What do you think on the 12 bolt vs 9". Just under 700hp and the plan is lots of track days.

OK Marty I can take a hint (just takes me 5 months to get it) :)
I have got a lot done in the meantime, just don't get around to posting pics.

Anyway hated the original front fender mounts on the firewall and I wanted to tuck the Peterson oil tank in the cowl area, so after gettting the dse fill plate welded on I decided to cut the old mount off and make a piece to flush it all up and square the corner off. filled in the original fuse block hole also
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/537/4SAvLx.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/923/fWAiSC.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/538/fbYKA2.jpg

Also mounted the RestomodAir Ac/Heater bulkhead. Nice piece!!
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/922/g0f5fL.jpg

syborg tt 02-23-2016 02:43 PM

Well it's about darn time.

Man now you post up the firewall update that I regret not doing. Car looks really nice and how's the new Z doing?

slenning 02-23-2016 02:45 PM

Also pretty much have the cage done.
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/921/eXBXgb.jpg

We built these doublers to weld the down bars under the dash to the rocker panels.
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/921/isCWGU.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/922/27ExdO.jpg

I think it was Mac and Otto's?? thread where they had removed the cowl top for access to mount the bars from under the dash to the firewall. Mine needed a little rust repair anyway so off it went. Cleaned everything real good and primed. Last pic shows the rear half to the firewall bulkheads we built (well my son Taylor did :D )

Sorry Marty!! I'm going to try and get up to date and keep up. :willy: I have a bunch more stuff to post

Got the Z to the track once last year is all but Holy Crap!! was that a good time!! With those brakes and tires it is crazy how hard you can run into the corners. I was riding a C6 Z06's ass for one session until he finally let me by.:D

syborg tt 02-23-2016 03:11 PM

Well the last post was pretty good. What else ya got and btw I am doing my best to thin my life down (my waist included) and trying not to buy another car for me. The Z28 or a new GT350 is really topping my want list right now.

slenning 02-23-2016 03:31 PM

I was gonna edit that last post to say the Z06 guy must be a crappy driver for my "no-talent lame ass" driving to get past him, but the Z28 is incredible.

My wife drives a 2010 SS that we got when they first came out, but I'm threatening to get rid of it and get a 2017 ZL1. I was worried she would think the Z was too harsh to drive around town, but she loves driving it!! Damn it!

BTW I'm working on the waist line too! Down 30 lbs. since I saw you at SEMA.

Vince@Meanstreets 02-23-2016 03:32 PM

nice work Steve. Cage looks real good. You bend that up or is it a kit?

Thanks Vince Never done it before but I bought a JMR Air/Hydraulic Tubing Bender and a hole saw tube notcher from Trick tools and bent it up. Didn't even waste hardly any material, it's a miracle!!
