BMW goes for a wild ride

Apparently the BMW driver had been blocking the GTO's for 3+ laps, swerving into their lines at the end of the race. The GTO guy got a run down the inside and the BMW moved over to block; unfortunately (for him) the nose of the GTO was already there.

Thats insane! I hope he is ok.

I hope his driving suit had the "Depends" option. I am sure he loaded his driving suit up. What a crash. I sure the Wine and Cheeze boys in the BMW's had a few words for the GTO guy. Looked ot me like the GTO had the line and the BMW tried to muscle his way back into the position he lost. Great Video.

Looks like he was lucky, it seemed to bounce off the nose and tail every time and landed softly when it did get on the roof. Who's idea was the jump anyway? LOL!

mazspeed 06-29-2006 05:35 PM

That's slightly below average

Thats insane. Reminds me of Elliot Sadlers big wreck a couple seasons ago when he went end for end multiple times.

Hopes he okay.

im gonna go out on a limb here and say the hump/jump in the grass will be nice and flat in the very near future.

note to self......just cuz bow and luke can do it in a charger....dont attemp any high speed jumps in a track prepped bmw

zbugger 06-30-2006 01:36 AM

I did that once on my bigwheel when I was a kid.... Ok, maybe not. Damn that looked crazy though.

Bmw

My neighbor has driven that BMW at various races during the season. He was supposed to co-drive in that race but lost his seat due to politics / money. He said the driver sustained a black eye and a few bruises - Safety First!

Seemed like the BMW guy thought he had it saved, too. Whoops!

I really don't mean to be dramatic, but there is little reason why this couldn't/wouldn't happen on a typical open track day to a car with FAR less crash protection. Granted, these cars in general are faster, and open track events are "non-contact" by nature, but with the HP some of the folks are putting in their PT cars these days and the relative lack of driving experience (and I place myself in these categories too), bad poop can happen really, really fast. Without a contemporary cage, more than likely a good fire system though I haven't seen the whole thing, HANS, and one HECK of a lot of luck, this dude would be six feet under. One very scary crash.

The only one I saw that was as bad was the one at the Rolex event at Long Beach this year, Daytona Prototypes. One of the Friselle cars broke and was limping down the front straight (which is actually very fast, curved, and very blind). He tried to cut inside to an escape route, and Eddie Cheever nailed him on the right rear (going at least 150), shot him left where another car jnailed him on the left rear. I thought for certain all three guys were dead, all three cars were for certain.

Performance is fun, but it is dangerous and impossible to control under all circumstances.

Crazy video,
Mark
