70 Camaro Pro-Touring Yet Another One

Yet another 70 Camaro build. I am new to lateral g and decided I would share my build hoping that some might share some insight on the build. I am building the car to be a good driver with intentions of autocrossing it every once in awhile. I purchased the car a little over a year ago so quite a bit has been done already. The car will be getting a ls motor with a 6 speed, Detroit speed Quadralink, 12 bolt, global west control arms and custom works performance front coil over conversion and many other of the usual parts.

zj510 09-06-2015 10:06 PM

Here is the car when I got it home. Has alot of issues it had been swung into a pole on the drivers side quarter they pulled out the quarter but the rear structure was left and both quarters are rusted out and also the trunk so it will be getting new gm rear sheet metal

Nice! Was it hard to find the quarters and other NOS parts? I don't have to ask if they were expensive.

Vince@Meanstreets 09-07-2015 03:36 PM

Hey!! Welcome to Lat-g. Been watching the build on IG.

It actually wasn't hard to find one of my dads friends had the driver quarter and tail light panel and I found the passenger quarter locally on ebay.

zj510 09-07-2015 09:21 PM

I liked the Detroit Speed firewall panel but didn't like the recess in it for the downward bars so I decided to make my own don't think it turned out to bad still got to body work it.

Got the minitubs done and the Detroit Speed Quadralink installed in the car.

Thanks I just got to started the thread. But I got the car in July of 2014 so I've had a little over a year but it was in the body shop 7 months for the sheet metal replacement.

With that time frame you are still doing well ... I wished a body elf would come over to my house and finish my quarters, lol.

Post lots of pics ....

I never really liked the shape of the 2nd gens inner fenderwells with all of the recesses for the wiring and structure ribs, but I did like the anvil carbon fiber ones, I just couldn't bring my self to spending the 2500 for them. So i hammered out all of the ribs and structures and English wheeled and planishing hammered all of them out here is a picture of a stock one for reference

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...psdnurwoak.png

Here is the one after I beat out the ribs and channels, still have to engish wheel and planish them out.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...psjcipv4mr.jpg

Here is a stock engine compartment vs what mine look like with the inner fenderwells modified i think they look pretty close to the anvil ones at a fraction of the cost.

Thanks I didn't really keep track of the time but id say with hammering them all out and English wheeling and planishing them out for both id say about 8-10 hours for them both.

zj510 09-09-2015 09:20 PM

Well I got the motor in but it wasnt an easy task.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps5y7xae0w.jpg

I know many people have had no trouble swapping them in but I decided to go a whole different way than just buying a direct swap kit. I purchased the cpp fit rite mounts, they are quality pieces but when the motor got put in and started to set it down the bolt holes for the motor mount were off by about a 1/4 inch. But with the help of my dad who knows quite a bit said that there are two different types of mounts for a 70 camaro one for a 307 and 350 and one for a big block and z/28 car for added hood clearance so once I got those the motor fit perfectly.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...psbtkiiyye.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...psyy78f4rn.jpg

Now for the cross member a buddy told me that if you turn a turbo 350 cross member around that it works perfectly well I should have known that didn't work but I had hoped for the best. But what did work is to take the mount and turn it upside down and put it on the other side which worked perfect I have great tunnel clearance and with the adjustable slide motor mounts I was able to make the cross member work with just a little bit of modification and not have to spend a ton of money on another one.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...psckcqdwse.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...psfancts9n.jpg

I have great pan clearance and firewall clearance and these are with the sliders slid all the way back.

I ended up with the f body pan great clearance to the crossmember and doesn't hang down past the crossmember

zj510 09-10-2015 09:48 PM

I got the driver fender modified. I didn't like how the driver fender came down different then the passenger so I decided I wanted to make them look the same once I get everything together im going to make some close out panels so you don't see behind the fender here's how it looked before and after

The rear end should be done getting the gear set up this week so I should hopefully have a roller this weekend.

zj510 09-13-2015 05:58 PM

Well I got the rearend back so I was able to get the car setup as a roller don't think I did to bad was a bare shell this morning and was a roller before lunch.

A buddy is porting and polishing the heads and a valve job. Thinking in the greenish gold realm something like Ford ginger ale or Subaru wilderness green metallic

Its been a little while since i posted been getting a bunch of little things done.
Got the front fenders and inner fenderwells back on the car

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...psqdng9o5c.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...psz9qijn55.jpg

I also welded up and filled the seams from the quarter panels to the tail light panel also I got the bumper on the car after having it straightened and dechromed since I wanted to smooth out the bumper and take off the bumper bolts. Once I got the bumper on I didnt like how it fit the body it had huge gaps all over the place so I decided to tighten them up

Haven't posted in a while, feels like I haven't really got anything done but got the doors header panel and deck lid back from the blaster so I have started fitting everything back on the car and starting to gap everything. Purchased a new urethane nose and chrome insert. Hopefully should start fitting it once I get new brackets since mine had been hit from a previous accident.
