Visiting CA and ....

I'm out in CA for the inactivation ceremony for my first ship ... the USS Albuquerque Ship Submersible Navy 706. Anyway went up north to visit a friend and came across this McLaren dealership by our hotel ...

Took some pics:

That's the one in Palo Alto.......used to be a Volvo dealership. 5 miles up the road is the Ferrari dealership one of only a few owned directly by Ferrari. Silicon Valley is full of pretentious Asshats, these 2 dealerships confirm that:) if your around Palo Alto downtown and hungry......try Nola's it's one of my favorites.

McLaren sent me an invitation to do a test drive and track experience session......I have better things to spend my $$$$ on that some British built depreciating asset.

You are correct .... a good friend lives in Palo Alto and this dealership was on the corner. Never seen these cars up close and personal let alone take a couple pics!

That orange color is what made me want my car orange. Enjoy your time in Cali.

Oh yeah .... my buddy just sent me a pic of one of his Challengers, pretty nice shape!

The other car is a '70 white 440 six-pack under the cover!

Vince ... since you asked nicely here are a few pics from the inactivation ceremony. This visit was more about seeing the guys, I left in '86 so ... it was like a 29 year reunion! I'm the not so handsome guy wearing my service dress blues!

The guest speaker was actually once the captain in '96 ... that's our girl!

That's OUR captain ... would have gone to the bottom for him if he asked!

I will update some photos when everyone send me their pics. Some good memories and good friends!

If the questioning starts with "Do you like gladiator movies?" Don't answer Chief, ITS A TRAP!!

waynieZ 10-22-2015 08:41 PM

Chief Glad you had a good time. After you posted where you were going I read up on the 706 Pretty interesting. Were you on the first crew to sail on her?

Thanks guys ... it was my pleasure to serve with these guys, we were all very young back in 1982 and built a bond that's hard to describe. Actually one of those guys is my best friend, he and I meet in boot camp, September 1980.

And if I told you anything about defending this great nation during the cold war I'd have to ... you know!

Wayne ... yes we are Plankowners, first crew to take her to sea. There is only one first crew!
