A recent road trip from Michigan to CA in my new P'car

Hey all, been a Porsche fan all my life and the day finally came to own one. After two years research, some saving, My C2S 997.2 is in my garage.

Got the car as a 49.75 (50th) birthday gift to myself, after years of hard work, putting three kids through college, rebuilding a business from the ground up (19 years) it was finally time.

I went from wanting to purchase a 911 whatever (996?993?964?911?977?) to a
996 (budget of 20 to 30k) to 997 40 to 50K, to a GTS to a GT3, back down to a C2s. Reason being, i have a race car, and while the GT3 is probably my ulitmate dream car, I wanted a driver. A car my wife and I could take to LA, tour in comfort (not too racy) and basically, a car i WANT to use, not worry about. The C2S as opposed to the GTS, it really came down to a Looks thing for me. When I was at the Porsche August event in Monteray, i realized my first Porsche love was the 74 RS Carrera. So this car will be close to that look.

Future mods include, the sport classic wheels, lowering it, the ducktail by Getty, and possibly the Carrera decal down the side.....

I took my 23 year old son with me, while we had a blast, the weather just sucked. I thought by going the "southern route" we'd miss most the weather. Well, thats what i get for thinking. Snowed in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and major rain in Ok and Missouri...made it home safe though...now to drive her and enjoy.

Che70velle 12-17-2015 09:11 PM

Nice!
Forget what you paid. Forget about the weather. Several days with your son, on a road trip...in anything....going anywhere...priceless! Good for you!

MtotheIKEo 12-17-2015 09:42 PM

Congratulations! I like your taste in cars. I have a 2nd gen in the garage right now and a P-car is on my wishlist for when my kids are done with college (likely 24+ years from now haha).

Spiffav8 12-18-2015 02:15 AM

Awesome. Enjoy the ride and the adventures.

Nice car, sorry about all the weather on the trip but what better way to really test the car out!

Chad-1stGen 12-18-2015 09:53 AM

There were only three of what i was looking for in the country, Silver, 6spd, 09 or 010 or 011 (997.2 C2S), this one was not only the least miles and lowest price, it was at a dealer and its CPO'd...

Yes, they haven't had one like this in quite some time. A while back they had a GTS i really liked, but i wasn't fiscally ready then...

Wheres the "suck it" imogee?, BTw, i've done a sh!t ton too the 70 lately, heads, cam, new wiring harness, wegner acc drive, baer remaster, carbon hood. just haven't updated the build thread. Between doing that and building a pool house in the back yard (not too mention running the biz) 'i;ve been a little busy...

Just waitin on CJ to finalize the LS harness and we'll be firing it up...So I ain't goin anywhere anytime soon, sorry for the bad news

Vince@Meanstreets 12-19-2015 11:21 AM

:lmao: :catfight: just saying.... I remember that guy that bought the new Jag and said the same thing. :badidea:

we try not using the word "fire" when referring to new work :mock:

how do you like that Wegner drive? its a work of art!!

glassman 12-19-2015 09:28 PM

The Wegner set up is thee set up. Everything from Texas Speed and Wegner and Billett has been SPOT on in terms of fitmet and design.....Waaaay good decisions...

It took me about four hours to do the entire drive *(less plumbing) and i'm a backyard mechanic...

Gibson's, Tama's, Giljan's, Stratocasters, lol, hes a musician, but likes cars and bikes. None of my kids got the gene... :shakehead:

We had a great time, but the weather.....doh!

Stuart Adams 12-23-2015 08:38 PM

Fantastic. Sounds like a blast. Cool car.

JKnight 12-23-2015 10:11 PM

Great car, would love it if you continue to update this thread with your experience as you go forward. I can't bring myself to buy a "practical" car to use as a daily driver so I'm curious as to your impressions of owning this generation 911.

fleetus macmullitz 12-24-2015 04:03 AM

I'm going to hold off on posting till you post more pics Mike.

Jeff, i will, thanx. Driving this generation (997.2) is the reason i chose this model. My budget WAS much higher (GT3 or GTS) but practicality came too mind. This is a car i can take to LA to visit the kids ( i could take the Camaro but try parking that a Target or Holiday Inn, plus i've already had one nice ride "snatched" ). While this car is super nice, its not a collector car, its a driving machine.

This is the first Porsche i've ever owned and the first car i've ever purchased that i've saved up for (part is financed, but thats another discussion) and wanted. The Camaro (dis-traction) I love and may never sell, but i "ended up" with it, got it from some friends "totaled" and fixed it up....

Driving this car is like driving a scalpel, the difference between cutting your meat with a knife vs a scapel. So precise and thought out for the driver (performance minded)

No doubt!!!! I need to update my build thread tooooooo....as the cars been down since August, its begining to take on "jack stand class" status...

John510 12-25-2015 09:46 AM

Awesome! I love Porsche. I wouldn't mind owning a Cayenne as my family hauler.

Enjoy the new ride

glassman 01-14-2016 08:06 PM

Well, i've driven it over 3k, and this is by far the best car i've ever driven. I'm lovin it so far....don't get me wrong, i love my F-body and its done well, cant wait for it to be done with this phase, but.... This car was and is absolutely set up for the driver. I'm 5'10, 180lbs this car just fits. The shifting, tach placement, steering gearing, torque, blindspots (lack of) and the list goes on and on....its modern day pro-touring, drives like a pro, and great for touring....

Not my house, just a jobsite i went to last eve, then took my bride to Mission Ranch in Carmel. Man, that place is nice!!!

Well, i dont think i'd kick a "vette" outa bed for eatin crackers, but this german thingy is just right.

A while back, i read an article in Car & Driver, and the writer said, "ya wanna know why the Germans and Japanese are kicking our a$$ at building cars? one word, NATO. Our greatest minds are going into defense contractors, while theirs are going into transportation".......well, i believe him....

OLDFLM 01-15-2016 07:35 AM

"There is no substitute"... that quote from Risky Business has been in my head for over 30 years! LOL

Can't wait to see the mods you have planned for the car!

Could you post pics of examples of what's to come?

When did you get the coupe?

Che70velle 01-15-2016 09:58 AM

Charley, the 911 is BBBBAD!

Blackhawk 01-15-2016 03:07 PM

Very nice, I've always had a thing for the styling of the 911s as well, which fortunately has been pretty consistent over the years.

fearlessmark 01-15-2016 06:51 PM

Almost got you to pull the trigger on the GT3... You got a nice car though, thanks for letting me try it out! Its the first one I've ever driven and I can see why they are liked as much as they are.

dkp993 01-16-2016 08:56 PM

Welcome to the club. As a 15 year 993 owner I can confidently say you won't be disappointed! Congrats!

Damn....that's cool. Do it!

clill 01-17-2016 08:10 PM

I had a 97 Turbo I bought new and took to a couple track days but it was wayy too easy to go fast. I was in beginner group and I would be on everyone's ass. It got boring. If I knew what I was doing back then it might have been more fun.

I like it...that would be cool. It sounds like you are getting some seat time in as well, good stuff!

My mother had one of these - said it didn't have enough power for her.
