69 GTO with ExtReme frame by Speedtech

Hey everyone- You've heard of our new ExtReme C10 full frames as seen in our '67 C10 shop truck. Without major tuning it handled so well it took 1st place trophies it's first time on the track. Click here to see it...

Then came our ExtReme subframes for Camaros and Novas which have been flying out of the warehouse and will soon be popping up at events. Click here to check them out!

Now that same awesome totally new suspension is underway for '64-72 A body cars!

Our first test car for the '68-72 A bodies is this beautiful '69 GTO project brought up by Tony from Las Vegas. Starting with a shell in great shape, we'll be dropping the GM chassis out and replacing it with our new ExtReme full chassis, including the same geometry/ front suspension as the C10 and the subframes, and out back will be our famous Torque Arm!

Some may ask why not leave well enough alone. Well, we're not after "well enough" in our suspension design, we want to see our customers win races rather than just participate. We all know that the triangulated 4 link with a few tweaks does ok in handling, but it still has issues with bind and potential for wheel hop. The Torque Arm on the other hand allows for less bind in a greater amount of articulation, and won't disrupt handling by maxing out. It also allows adjustable ride height, roll center, pinion angle, instant center, and wheelbase.

Here's my Photoshop rendering to get the ball rolling...

Not only will this GTO have a killer suspension, the drivetrain is in normal Speedtech fashion, plenty of power. Tony brought up this stroked LS2 packing boost by way of a Whipple supercharger going through Trick Flow heads. Woohoo, GT-go!

Can't stop smiling....this will be full of awesome!

Ben@SpeedTech 02-22-2016 01:18 PM

That it will!

And the tear down begins. Stay tuned for more...

Very cool to see a gto get built.

214Chevy 02-22-2016 01:59 PM

Gonna be sweet!! That's for sure...:bigun2: :bigun2:

Sweet !

Looking forward to this.

What size tire do you think you can get on an A-body with your frame?

Also, what sort of anti-squat properties does the rear suspension have? I realize that optimized handling is the point, but I do like going drag racing on occasion.

Andrew

right on!!!
so rad to see another gto project!
looking forward to seeing how this one comes together.
cheers,

Do you guys have a CAD drawing of the chassis that you could post up? Need pics!!!!

FaBrycation 02-22-2016 06:08 PM

Dig the concept! I've Always been a fan of this body style

califconstruct 02-23-2016 03:43 AM

Definitely Sweet!!🏎

Ben@SpeedTech 02-23-2016 07:25 AM

Thanks everyone!

@ Che70- No postable CAD drawings yet. We have the prototype built but as with any R&D there may be some real world tweaking to the design as we put things together. Our two number one goals ;) are to get the geometry that we want and make sure everything easily bolts in with nice fitment. We'll post more on the frame as things unfold.

@ Andrew- Quoting Ron Sutton, "The chassis, suspension & frame are all designed to be optimum with a 315/30/18 front tire. While you can run larger in the rear, for handling purposes, I suggest the same 315/30/18 in the rear too. The ExtReme full chassis for the A-Body has all the same benefits as the F-Body clip we've been discussing. The dimensions are slightly different to achieve that optimization for the A-Body, so the result is the same.
As far as the Speedtech Torque Arm set-up in the full chassis, it will have 60% anti-squat."

Ben,
By the time my car finally hits the road, my complete Track Time Kit will be vintage...:lmao: Love it bud, keep the ingenuity coming...

illmatic96ss 02-23-2016 09:16 AM

so wil the chassis bolt right in like the stock one ?

That is the idea. there may be a few places that need to be trimmed. The tunnel will need to be removed but we will have a kit to replace it as well.

WSSix 02-23-2016 06:17 PM

Yet another cool project. Glad to see some Pontiac A bodies get the love.

illmatic96ss 02-23-2016 09:50 PM

please post pics of the chassis :y0!:

Centerforce 02-25-2016 05:53 PM

Can already tell this is gonna be good! Cant wait to see more of it.

steveracer33 02-26-2016 09:36 AM

also looking forward to this build! I have a 65 lemans coup begging for a new chassis also.

Do you have the tunnel kit on your site, or pics you can post here? I have been wondering what I am going to do for a tunnel.

Ben@SpeedTech 08-30-2016 11:01 AM

Out with the old. You can see what a factory frame minus springs looks like. That's not far off from the ride height potential the ExtReme frame has.

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...psxdiq5s84.jpg

To prepare to swallow 345s out back a mintub was in order. Also note the contoured rear sheet metal removed and the insert that we provide to better conform to the shape of the new frame rails and suspension.

Ask and ye will receive... Because this chassis has such a low ride height we have created and added to our production lineup a high clearance complete trans tunnel insert. It comes in three main pieces that are easily fitted and welded into the floor.

Very cool. Good ideas/products getting produced w/this.

64mali 08-30-2016 08:23 PM

I'm excited to watch this one come together.

waynieZ 08-31-2016 07:40 AM

Trans tunnel looks great. Nice job on the frame, I like the color.

1965_SS 08-31-2016 07:55 AM

Looks great!
Nice to have a tunnel available for purchase.

From a side view, does the frame stick down lower from the body than stock, or less?

Are you able to use a Vaporworx tank, stock size? Or do you have to have a custom tank made?

Thanks!

BanditDave 08-31-2016 08:30 AM

What are you thinking on a price point fully loaded for this guy...happen to have a '68 GTO chilling out in my garage (next project).

with the tunnel kit what do you do about the floor braces ? good looking kit. work for a el camino ?

Ben@SpeedTech 09-27-2016 03:06 PM

More Updates...

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...psr5lpuwxp.jpg

The motor you see here used to be in a 5th Gen Camaro that ran 10s in the 1/4 mile and laid down 696 hp to the wheels, roughly around 840 at the crank. Once together the GTO will also head down the drag strip, being lighter than the 5th gen will perhaps hit mid-low 10s.

The rigidity of the frame design makes up for blocking off the floor pan supports. Not sure on the Elky, we need a donor to drop by and let us have a look at the floor pan. ;) El Caminos are on the build list so in time they will be available.

1965_SS- You can see in the pics the stainless fuel tank that we use made by Rick's Tanks. These are available as an option when purchasing a chassis.

$14,500 is the price for a complete chassis and suspension w/9" axle housing with axles. Add brakes, a rear center, and wheels and tires and you have a complete roller. As mentioned fuel tanks, race specific valved coilovers, powder coating, engine mounts, oil pans, headers, etc. ... are available upgrades and add-ons.

Ben@SpeedTech 09-27-2016 03:19 PM

Next objective was installing the frame into the car and having a good last look at clearance and suspension geometry at ride height. For this we installed 315 30 18s on the front and 335s out back. Everything is looking perfect and working out just as we anticipated. I know some of you will have questions about clearance and all, hopefully I have everything covered in the pics. If not let me know and maybe I can shoot something specific for you.
