Clutch Recommendations
Hey Guys,
Im looking for some clutch reviews. I installed a RAM Force and it is a PITA to drive. Have to rev it super high to avoid stalling. I am looking to replace it with a more "factory feel" clutch. Something smooth and easy but also wont get burnt up with 527rwhp. What do you recommend? John |
I love my LTI-S dual disc from Monster. They make a flywheel and use the new 2014+ LT1 dual disc clutch from GM. It has a very smooth feel, perfect pedal to me, and if I need to replace it, I can get it from a GM dealer. It's not a cheap setup, but I'm really happy with it. It's also rated to 700 ft-lb if I recall correctly...

How much power is the LS7 clutch good for?

I just finished breaking in my new Mcleod Street Extreme clutch and so far, I like it a lot. It is rated at 700 hp but has a very factory pedal feel and engages very smoothly, just the slightest hint of chatter if I under rev by a bit when starting off. It's very driveable.

I used a lot of clutches when i worked at the speed shop, Ram, Mcloed, Hays, CenterForces, I was able to get them at cost and I just switched till i found one i liked , it was centerforce for me, the pedal pressure was close on most of them but the grip force that happens on the release of the clutch pedal was the best to me with the centerforce

I just ordered a McLeod RST for my build. I bought it based on what other people said. JEGS has McLeod clutches on sale now until Monday.

I had the McLeod RST and it wasn't easy to smoothly engage at lower rpm. Switch to McLeod Street Extreme and love it, much less pedal effort and smooth engagement.

TDP (Texas Drivetrain Performance) stage 3 here. I have 130 miles on it, so it's still breaking in, but so far it's great. It does chatter slightly at engagement if I under rev it, but it does grab well.

I have been installing RST and RXT clutches for the past few years. Everyone gives them a thumbs up.
I used to have a Ram910 single disc and it was brutal. Did hold constant thrashing for 20K miles. Truly the RST could be lighter than stock pedal pressure. It also has a very non grabby engagement. The RXT isn't much stiffer and/or worse to drive. If you plan to launch the car hard on slicks at the drag strip get the RXT. It takes abuse much better. If you want it to rev fast get an aluminum flywheel. If you don't like the fact that you need to give it a little gas to get going then go steel. The aluminum flywheel is really just a matter of getting used to IMO. |
Maybe it's a combo of aluminum flywheel and 231/236 cam. Little too "race car" for me. I want it smooth like a new vette

McLeod 75xxx series single disc clutches are 2400lb static pressure plate. McLeod 69xx-xx series twin disc clutches have a 1900lb static pressure plate.
The RST is organic disc for street tires and the RXT has pucks on both discs intended for sticky or drag radial tires. |
You may like our DYAD system, John. Its capable of holding much more power than you are currently putting down, and the pedal pressure is as soft, or even softer than stock in some applications. It a great option for performance cars that are still driven on the street!

Centerforce DYAD in Hellfire is very easy pedal pressure and seems to handle high hp just fine.

Not sure on 1st gear. It is a T56 from a 2000 Camaro and I am running 3.75 rear gear ratio with true trac. Rear tire is a 19" wheel with 35 series tire
I'm taking the car to a professional sometime this week. I would guess that whoever installed it probably didn't do it right based on all the other BS wrong with my car. And Ron, Vince doesn't have room for it right now. I was going to take it over to Steve at EBMC to fix |
You may also check your pedal ratio and for binding in the linkage. I hated my clutch then moved the linkage 1/4" down and it made all the difference in the world. Now I love my clutch. The movement did help a lot with the overall ratio for pressure and travel and also free'd the master from some binding I didn't even know was occurring. Fixing the binding was the biggest gain I assume.

I have run different clutches over time .And the one I have had the most luck with is a Center Force clutch with a steel flywheel.And I run this in my 1979 Z-28 RS Camaro Pro-touring car with a 500 HP plushttp://s1064.photobucket.com Supercharged Small block Chevy.

Dyad with the GM quick disconnect
Hello guys I started a thread a while back about clutch master connection to the Dyad clutch. I probably should have posted it in a different location. I noticed the centerforce guys are on here so maybe you could take a peak at the link and post up some information on the best way to reuse the GM quick disconnects (GM or DSE style clutch master) with the Ford style release cylinder recommended with the Dyad. It would be greatly appreciated.

Its a Centerforce dual friction clutch.And I Heim -jointed my factory clutch likage so its extra smooth.http://s1064.photobucket.com

Thanks a bunch Charlie. That's a great view of the coupler. I think that is probably how I will try to do it.
