Door panels

TMI door panels, tore them apart, remade the cheap insert panels with proper board. The doors will be recovered in black leather and properly stitched.
Had the machine shop make me some aluminum billet inserts, powder coated black and counter-sunk the Ringbrothers washers.

Have some idea on the colour and pattern of the new panels (depending on 'new' car colour)

How hard was it to pull that bezel off. I need to do the same thing but will be doing it in flat black to match the dash...

Not bad at all .. see the 2 set screws at the bottom of each end, remove these completely. Peel the tape off without touching the adhesive side and simply slide the computer portion out of the frame.

I lightly sanded the frame with the scouring pad for adhesion

The fit is VERY tight so mask off everything except the top 'exposed' portion of the frame.

OH !! just saw that build was you ... truly over the top my friend, looks like we are trading some ideas. Ya, the controller sticks out like a sore thumb.
Cant wait to see what you come up with for the rest of the interior

Excellent, I'll try to pull it apart this week and see if i can get it free for coating.

And thanks for the compliments. Interior is fairly simple as I wanted it to appear primarily stock. It will have aftermarket seats, stock rear seat, standard door panels and the DSE dash center. I'm looking at console ideas as I like a console in the car but have nothing for it currently and not huge on the stocker.

Any tips on how you made that one? Looks awesome. I'd probably replace the radio in mine for the holley touch screen display.

minendrews68 06-13-2016 02:05 PM

Why does this console not surprise me? Very nice!

Sheck44 06-14-2016 05:26 AM

Console

LMAO ... thanks guys ! It's so funny, if you guys could see my 1st attempt at a console 3 years ago I'd be embarrassed.

Will, they have some really nice options out this year ...

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...s/punch-series

What I like about the PMX-2 is it's a full unit, not a remote controller like my last one, so all you have to do is mount some amps in the trunk and your good to go

Will, here is a link to some more pics of the console build, if you want I can provide the detailed measurements for everyone. I test fit the new console last week and its absolutely perfect with the ACC padded carpet.
let me know ...

Will, my last year's console ... a little more 'conservative', this along the lines of what you had in mind ? Very simple layout

Going into a full custom 69' camaro/70 Nova dash ... meaning its similar to a DSE dash without the hump so I can fit this in ...

The console looks "Great" Steve I've been wanting to add a console to my 69 also. Got a good deal on a 5th gen console and will put that in soon and see if I like it. Though seeing the one you built has got me thinking!!

BTW I cheated and had Dakota Digital build this custom for my 70 Camaro.
Their shop is just a couple miles from mine so it's pretty handy:lol:
http://<a href="https://imageshack.c...921/r4ujOf.jpg[/IMG]
First one they've done with the black bezel and the carbon fiber insert. It'll match up great with my gauge package from them

will69camaro 06-14-2016 01:49 PM

Nice on the precision metalcraft bezel. I wanted to run a nova modified dash/dse insert in mine to run that bezel but seemed like more work than I was willing to put up with at this time. So I surface mounted mine for the time being.

Cant wait to put the IQ3s to use!

This is really great work and I love the idea of having the A/C vents there. I have a noob question. Are you folks taking measurements as you go or are you going from a standard 1969 camaro console width and length then doing the styling/height/accessories you're after?

Sheck44 06-15-2016 05:29 AM

Console

D, no full custom ... what you want to do is mock up your console in your car out of cardboard. It took me a couple of hours for my mock up, and the main measurements you want to pay attention to is the under dash clearance WITH the carpet in (want it tight), and the width has to clear your seats and seat belts.

Steve ... awesome work !!! Love the 70' dash, very impressive work and love the way you were able to match your AC controller with carbon ... sweeeeet !!

Hope this helps
Cheers
Steve

Well, yes--but...

Maybe I could use an Ipad as a source. I wonder if the Ipad's GPS would interrupt the music to allow the GPS to speak?

Hmmm.....

Hey Steve, You know I'm liking this console even better than your first one.. although the other one was pretty cool too. On your electric parking brake switch, what did you use? I put one of these in a couple of month's ago and I'm using a DP/DT momentary switch. Nothing fancy, plain actually, i'm liking the looks of the one you used. Since you've got the console finished, do you have an idea of the shipping cost to Arkansas.........? You did build it for me right? LOL
Your car looks great!

Thanks !!
I just keep coming up with new ideas and my vision for the new interior should turn out really nice, a little more 'modern luxury' but still with a resto-modish feel that these cars still deserve. I fully admire the work that these guys do when they fit in a modern day Camaro dash/interior but to me the car then loses some of authenticity ... just me.

So, the E-Stopp ... actually mine came with that button from Speedway Motors

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/E-Stop...Kit,65217.html

LOL ! You mean to ship the my 'console' ??? LMAO
Ok, lets add up the hours here ... hmmmmm
As you know I love creating and building this stuff, but the time it takes is unbelievable. I have no problem helping anyone here with sizing and building so if anyone has any questions let me know.

Cheers
Steve

Great looking console Steve! I am kind of interested on how well the Estopp works. I have been looking at them for a couple of years to get rid if the factory pedal.

Hey there Will
Actually decided to go a different rout, ordered all custom rocker switches from Rocker Switch Pros, what you may like is the cool toggle switches for the Racepak, and how we took the DSE dash and tweaked it for more room and a Nova dash pad

Btw, watching your build process, congrats your so close

Here is the mock up of the new dash ...
