Longest ride home Ever
Monday afternoon my wife and I had to bring our Sweet Belle ( Westie ) to the vet and I had a bad feeling when we left the house. She was 16and 1/2 years old and going blind and deaf but still full of love. I held her in my arms until the end and she kissed my arm and was gone. I reverted to a 5 year old and when I got in the car he came out in full force. My wife and I sat there like un consoleable children and that was the longest ride home of my life. When we got home the grand children were there and were asking about Belle and when she would be better so she could come home. We got out of site until we could get our selfves together to face them and the questions, then they all went home and the silence and emptyness hit home. It feels like a sad empty place right now.
Love you Belle, I'll see you some day, save me a spot on the couch. |
sorry for your families loss Wayne, hopefully time can help heal the pain.

Sorry for your loss Wayne, they take a piece of your heart with them RIP.
|
Sorry for your loss Wayne. We all know these family members only live a few short years, but it is so difficult when the time actually comes. And then we go adopt another little buddy, because our (and their) life is so much better with them around.

Wayne -- No words can console. This I know for fact.
Get yourself together and get out there and get another little bundle of love. It's the only way you can gain your since of peace and calm back. We all need that "friend" there to just put your hand on... or wake up to.... or half to get off our asses to let them "out". I don't think I could have made it thru the last 90 days without Stella by my side. I was so sick and just laying on the couch and she'd crawl and move until she was up on me. Even though it wasn't really very comfortable to have a 60 pound dog on me.... I didn't mind one bit. |
Sincere condolences Wayne, their time with us is far too short yet it creates opportunity for another wonderful and mutually rewarding relationship.
|
So sorry for your loss Wayne. Been through it far too many times, yet we all keep coming back for more.
|
I can't even think how I'll be ....my guy tucker is 11 ..thats why I got a pup to help both of us , him last longer with exercise and me with something to come home to when he's gone . Hang tough Wayne . Hopefully there will come a day you feel the desire for another dog .
Note to self don't read stuff like this at work . |
Sorry to hear Waynie, pets really can be your best friends.
|
Sorry for your loss Wayne. It's tough when we lose our best friends but our lives are so much richer for having known and loved them and having them love us...
Take care, Don |
Wayne,
Brother I am so sorry to hear this. I know it's devastating. It's ok to cry like a child. I still break down over the loss of my buddy Steve. Give it time. Curtis |
Sorry for your loss Wayne. Sux to lose your pup.

Sorry for your loss, it's hard. We had to put down two Bichons last year (had them since they were puppies). They were both one month shy of 17 and 18. It really sucked but their health was failing also. Just put down a 12 year old St Bernard/Chow mix a couple of months ago. Never an easy situation.

Wayne, as said here many times already, very sorry for your loss. You have to focus on the joy that was brought into the home. The companionship of a dog is irreplaceable. I have Rottweilers. I've had at least one since 96' around here. I'll pick up a puppy when my adult gets to be 6 or so, in order to get the puppy accustomed to the "orders and borders" around here. I've found it's much easier to train my puppies, when there's an adult dog there already in the know. The puppies kinda want to mimick the adult dog, at least for me anyway. My current Rott is 8, and I'm about to get another puppy now. The new puppy will be my 4th one.
My current Rott is named Carly. We got her when my son Brandon was 4. He absolutely adores her. When the day comes to put her down, I don't know who will be worse off, me or Brandon. It sucks...no other way to say it. My rotts best friend is my cat named Felix. They are inseparable. You hardly ever see one in the yard without the other. I live on a remote piece of property, surrounded by a Wildlife Management Area, so there's plenty of roaming room around here, but she never goes far. I bet she hasn't left the yard in 5 years. Again, sorry for your loss, and for my rambling. |
Thank you everyone. Belle got a stuffed E Aw ( donkey from Winnie the Pooh) from my youngest daughter ) it was 3 ft long. When she was a puppy she claimed it and had til the last day. She slept on it every night. Today I saw a kid with a tiny E aw in her hand it made me smile. We've had Westies since 1976 Snuggles 13.5 yrs and Belle 16 -3/4 yrs. we've been lucky. I told my wife I'd like
another one but she said she's not sure. I went on her I pad and it on a site with Westie puppies . |
Wayne,
I've been through it, and over the years, with many friends as well, I'm now convinced a puppy is the best medicine. What could be better for a new puppy than to be raised and live it's life with a true dog lover? It's a win win situation......pay it forward. |
Sorry for your families loss Wayne, it is a tough time.
I never really got over losing my last GSD, at times I call Zeus "Duchess" and he looks at me weird. I cried like a baby too, I think we all do. Joe |
Thnaks guys
I went the other day to get her ashes from the Vet,( I usually don't get them but wife talked me into it.) and it was almost as tough of a ride home. She was a good girl, stubbourn but good :) . |
Wayne, I am so sorry for your family's loss! I write this with tears coming down my face cuz I do realize how quite the house is without my Greatest Dane Cassie girl.
You are in my thoughts Wayne. Michael |
