1970 Camaro LSA BUILD
6 Attachment(s)
Thought I would start a new thread on my next project, a 1970 Camaro RS. The car is pretty rust free/ solid. Nothing real special, the car currently has a 350 from a 74 Z/28 and a 10 bolt Posi. Finished my 69 last year and really have the itch to jump into something else. Learned a lot from the last build and will probably go "all-in" with the suspension this time around. My 69 has a Chris Alston 4-link and warmed over stock sub-frame. Still trying to sort the handling / suspension out....like driving a go-cart!
I'll be going all DSE front and rear on this build, LSA and a 4L80e trans., nicer wheels, big brakes, etc, etc....Convinced my wife that I am building it for her, hence the auto trans..... Let the fun begin! |
Nice.

In for the progress! We're sure this will turn out pretty darn good based of the looks of your other car!
|
Sounds like a cool build. Is your 69 synergy green? Looks good.
|
Can't wait to dig into it...my 69 is not Synergy Green....my painter picked a green base coat/ clear coat from the BASF chart..... I think it's about as close to Synergy Green as you can get without doing a Tri-coat.

Nice new project! Youll have quite the nice Camaro garage there.

Very nice car to start with, your 69 turned out great so I am sure you will do this the same or better.

Thanks..... Starting to gather up my parts....mini tubs and Quadra Link should be here soon.....from the sounds of it, DSE can't make the stuff fast enough :) Wanted to throw out a question early on as it relates to the drive train. I'm putting in a LSA (warmed over a bit) with a 4L80e. My thought is that the LSA motor will have gobs of torque and I could get away with using a 3:31 gear or somewhere in that range. I'm not drag racing the car, but may autocross a bit. I know that this question has a ton of variables...just wanted to get some input.

I'd go with a higher gear. I have 3.91's and I wish I had more like 4.33's, faster acceleration and deceleration would be nice. On the highway, the OD will take care of cruise.
Running around in second, I want more gear. Get a paddle shifter, too. Lots mo fun. :tv_happy: |
Can't wait to watch this build

Yours is going to be at a much higher level then my build was as mine was built to be a driver/bike hauler so nicks and scratches are okay with me as it adds to the patina. |

I'm going to put all the goodies in this build (as much as my checkbook will allow), but not go to the point where I'm afraid to drive it....I think the bed liner is great idea, it will really hold up to a lot of abuse. Dave |
Definitely going to be a cool build with the LSA.
Have you ever had your 69 at the Green Street Cruise Nights in McHenry by any chance? I swear I've seen your car before, or maybe it was at the Summer Nationals in Milwaukee. |

Some pics of the tear down...... Always fun to find the repair work by previous owners. I think the guy used an entire tube of silicone to seal the shifter tunnel patch??

A few pics of the car, getting it up and on the rotisserie..... can't wait to dive into the metal work! A few repairs needed on the floor, but nothing too bad.
Big shout out to Marty....thanks for the hook up on the GTO spare tires! |
Sweet, good to have a rust free car, its worth the money in the long run, I did my 2000.00 dollar car and it needed quarters ,floors, fenders and doors. Wasn't cheap, a rust free shell with all sheetmetal is worth 10 grand IMHO

Any updates??? :warning:

Some suspension goodies from DSE showed up.......ordered it bare, figured I would probably do some welding / minor fab work and then paint.

Some more suspension pieces showed up courtesy of Moser Engineering. They did a sweet job on the housing!!
|
That '69 looks sharp, I'm sure you'll do even better on this next project!
|
Thanks! ....... I'm looking forward to starting the metal work soon.

What happened to the build?
|
I will be going full on with this project real soon. My daughter bought an old lake home that needed "carpet and paint"....well 2 + years later, we totally rebuilt the entire home..... needless to say, it's reduced the shop time to near zero.
With that said, I am starting a YouTube Channel that will document every aspect of the build. The channel is DKz garage. No videos just yet, but there will be real soon. Thanks for the interest in the build. |
