315 square set up on 1st gen Camaro
Anyone have pics of this being done? Thinking of going to a 315 or 305 front tire and 315 rear. I will be using extended arms for the front to keep the suspension geometry designed in to my subframe. Only people I can find are Blu Balz and the Gulf SCCA CP Camaro. Seeing Hobaughs 65 Vette has made me rethink the build and want a little more tire up front.

^^^ what's that? |
Longer control arms. Rather than using backspace on the wheel to extend the track width you can use a longer control arm to keep a zero scrub radius.

So you're going to flare it in some way then?
The new Sutton / SpeedTech subframes people are installing right now will be having some 315 squared setups I bet. |
Larry Woo has this on his 68 and it looks very nice.

Why do you think you need 315s up front? |
Yeah, Larry also has some really nice custom fabricated inner fenders that tie all his other mods together.
This is not done easily on a first gen! I have a 275 rival on the front of my 67 with a DSE sub and a lot of fabrication time was spent on my inner fenders to make them fit and not rub. |

To the op, a few more builds that have 315 in the front.
James shipka Drkstar from pt.com Stielow Dusold I think... David pozzi will have 315, but he hasn't started a build thread. |
I appreciate all the replies! I have an after market subframe going in and it has wide track control arms built in to it. Not on the factory subframe. It look like I will have to flare the fronts 2-3" to clear. I'm wanting more tire up front to hopefully be able to keep up with the Corvettes. If it;s going to be too much of a pain I may just stick with the 285's my sub can take with no mods

We did 315's on the front of a 69 Camaro with a custom built sub-frame almost 10 years ago. FYI all the new tires are running wider these days than the Michilens tire we used.

Chris? I just realized it was you and I emailing back and forth 4 years ago ( :hitaxeonthehead: ) about all the Jake's stuff and all.... so where are you at in your build? You had the RFD 437 going on..... :confused59:
You don't still communicate with Jake I am guessing..... :smiley_smack: |
Yeah man, how ya been? I see your build is going big! I can;t wait to see that thing run. I moved to Germany three years ago so the build didn't get going. I have a lot of the parts int he garage just waiting. The time has me changing my mind on what to do though. The 440 15* engine I sold a while back and will be going to an LS7 with ITB's most likely. How much work was involved in getting those 315's up front on yours? Are you running an inner fender?

I am bummed about you selling the 15* beast! A lot of rework on the JRS subframe so far with guidance from Ron Sutton... so much it's not really a JRS part any more thankfully. :) No inner fender plans as of yet and the car will be flared in some fashion so clearance will not be an issue as we will build around it. As Matt alluded to I am just trying to run the show at my house right now. The little guy in my avatar and his 3 week old sister are running sh*t. :stirthepot: :D |
Are the modification by Ron to fit the bigger tires or to modify geometry? How is it that the DSE guys can run 315's with minimal issues? Why is our sub so different? Maybe I should call Ron myself and see what he thinks about my build.

Which DSE cars are you referring to? All the 1st gen cars I know of running a 315 front are modified at both the inner and outer fender. As I mentioned before the only subframe I am aware of that is currently able to keep a 315 "inside" the fender (with some mods) is the new SpeedTech / Sutton subframe. And yes you can't go wrong calling Mr Sutton. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psc249ce00.jpg |

In other words -- just order a new SpeedTech sub..... and the inner fenders.
|
The Fairway 67 we are building has 305/19's on the front with only custom inner fenders. Speedtech did not have fiberglass units when we built ours.

Thanks guys, i'll be calling Ron and Speedtech.

WOW! I just watched YouTube video on the new Extreme sub and i'm completely sold! That thing is awesome! My sub will be going up for sale soon. Still need to call Ron to get the Secret Sauce valved JRI's with it and for my rear.
