208 mph speeding ticket...

Anybody hear about this today? Wow!

That's pretty nuts. Damn radios are hard to beat in a race.

Musclerodz 11-17-2016 02:26 PM

It is local to me and I am calling BS on the speed.

I agree with Mike, miscalculated mph. I read that a helicopter pilot timed the speeder with a stop watch, how accurate can that be ?

They have paint markers on the highway to time speeds but I still don't think they got it right.

No, that's the right speed. I have a buddy that's OHP and he said that guy was clocked using radar. It was a 2011 Mustang with a gutted interior except for the drivers seat, supercharged with nitrous.

straight on coming or at angle when shot with radar? cars going that fast can be airborne very easy without lots of downforce.

Zoomin 11-20-2016 05:41 PM

The trooper was on the side of the road when the stand passed at 86 mph. The troopers Charger maxed out at 156, the sprang turned off his light at 185 and as he was pulling away he topped out at 208 before slowing down for the NW Hwy exit, so the radar was from behind.

Luckily a county sheriff just happened to be there in NW Hwy

Do people that write this stuff actually know anything about anything?

How do you turn off the lights AND brake lights?

Andrew

They probably meant that he shut off the tail lights so that it wouldn't come on when tbe driver hits the brakes.

It can be done by installing a switch that interrupts the power to the lights. A lot of the police cars here in Las Vegas are equipped that way.

The more I think about this the more it sounds like a tall tale to me. Everyone knows that all Mustangs will make an abrupt 90* turn and run into something at anytime without warning. The odds of one reaching over 200mph without this happening are on par with finding a Unicorn.

Back when Texas DPS used to run Mustangs I used to see a number of them in the auction yard that had been hit hard in the rear... I thought it was odd. I asked the guy that ran the place about it once and he said what was happening was that the troopers were driving them at high speed and they would catch a crosswind or go under a bridge and the car would suddenly swap ends and hit something. Yikes!

214Chevy 11-30-2016 07:25 AM

I'm no hater, but I never believed it. 208 mph is fast as hell. You get there pretty fast and to mention without hitting anything else like other cars on the road, etc. Uhhhhh......nope!!:hitaxeonthehead:

NOPANTS68 11-30-2016 11:29 AM

Guys, a stock 2013/14 Shelby does over 200 mph and it gets there in a hurry. Add a pulley, tune, exhaust or any other combination of toys and it's done with ease. Drove a buddy's 2014 with those treats on it and it would go from 80 to 175 in one gear in a handful of seconds. Don't know if this kid was driving a Shelby, but 200 mph is definitely feasible. A 69 Camaro we all know rips over 220 mph and it's shaped like a barn door.

jarhead 12-01-2016 09:08 AM

Why isn't he smiling in his mugshot...

A very stupid move on his part, but after that, no one got hurt. I figured he would have grinned. Career criminal?

DBasher 12-01-2016 04:08 PM

208mph? With the lights off? Driven by a 19yo...ok. Makes for a great internet story, just like the guy in the 70's that strapped surplus JATO rockets to his Impala and did like 10hundred miles an hour across the Mojave desert. :ohsnap:

Is it possible? Sure. I've seen the newer mustangs hit those speeds without aero at some of the mile events. It'd be interesting to see and hear the kids side of the story and what he did to the car.

:popcorn2:

What one gear were you talking about hitting 175 in just a few seconds?

NOPANTS68 12-02-2016 01:40 PM

I said a handful of seconds. It was 5th. Car made 886RW FWIW.

Am I reading that right...763+ mph? The speed of sound is 761mph at sea level. So unless that had wings and an after burner, I'm guessing I read that wrong.

:headspin:

z28cp 12-07-2016 04:24 PM

Read the ticket. Andy Green. Land speed record jet 'car'.

WSSix 12-07-2016 09:43 PM

That's what I was thinking too when I saw the speed and name. Thanks for confirming.

David Pozzi 12-13-2016 03:05 PM

Yes, Andy Green. I was there when he did it I could see the shockwaves off the nose & heard the sonic boom.
