DSE Subframe update
To All:
Hello Everyone since the other thread got closed, I thought I would start up another one so any further discussions could take place. I am still considering getting one for my build. Has anyone heard anything further about it in the last couple of weeks? Has anyone put a deposit down on one? If so, what was the single item that caused you to want to send in your deposit? I look forward to hearing some of your thoughts. Thanks, tyoneal |
By far, the most significant part of the design is the stamped crossmember. The complex shape allowed DSE to "wrap" the crossmember around the rack. It would take a ton of effort to duplicate that shape with basic fabrication on a production basis. As a result, DSE was able to locate the rack exactly where they wanted it to be without relocating the engine.
Come September, we'll all get to see that clip run against other clips at RTH2--which is what everyone keeps clamoring for, right? Direct comparison. |
Steve:
What is RTH2? Thanks, tyoneal |

It's a party! :willy: Run Thru The Hills 2. It's Performance driving event that includes a tour through the winding roads of the Great Smoky Mountains, an 1/8th mile dragstrip, and an autocross set up on a 3/8th mile figure eight track--real track surface, not a parking lot. Oh, and a bbq. Kyle, Stacy, and their blue 69 Camaro Test car will be participating as well as a slew of other well known cars. So we get to see that subframe in action.

That sounds COOL!!! Where? When? Who gets to go? Shiny Side Up! Bill '72 442 "Inamorata" |
Anyone can go you need to register, its in Pigeon Forge Tennesse.
I plan to push mine pretty hard to get some good comparisions, I wonder if Kyle knows we will be battling it out? oh yeah the dates are september 15,16,17 |
Watch out for Stacey, she can drive also!!
They are running SW's old motor, should be neat. |
We cannot wait. We will be there with Project Prodigy to see if 345/25/20 and 295/30/19 tires can work. Also will be there with the JustBringIt Camaro to defend last years crown as fastest in the straight line. We are not predicting victory quite yet, but I think it will take some bad bitches to beat either car.
So it is a real put up or shut up event. JustBringIt!!!! |
Frank , Now I need to get a shovel out ..... its getting deep ! LOL !

It's real nice, but in my case, I had been hoping that the DSE subframe was going to be built more like a WD/Martz/21stCSM type of (Box-tube) subframe, in that it would free up some much-needed space to the sides of the engine in the framerail areas...Aside from integrating the rack, it doesn't accomplish what I need, for a TT application where I have a lot of plumbing to deal with.
I can't rationalize that pricing, either. |
I can't rationalize the price either, I wish it was 10K.
|
For the life of me I can't figure out why you would want the price higher. What would that accomplish ?

Your comment is certainly "leading", so, I'll bite: Do you have a financial interest in DSE? -Rob |
No financial intrest in DSE. Just me being a smart ass.
|
Because if it was $10K Stuart would be the only person that could afford one, LOL!

If we were only comparing DSE products here then this is what i think .
Take a stock subframe add the speed kit 3 and the labor factor into it . Basically that would be about a 5k subframe. Looking at it in that perspective makes me think why not go to the new subframe with much better geometry and the option of a larger tire for the $6700.(pending I think) Seems as if it would be a better buy in that case. Just an opinion ! |
I do post some stupid stuff sometimes and some wisecracks. But in all seriousness there is ALOT of planning, thought and expense in this piece. The price is cheap compared to the investment it took to bring it to us.
Kyle could have come out with a sub frame along time ago, but as they say there is only one chance to make a first impression. Also if I was a company other than DSE that sells subs I would be happy the price is at least where it is, it raises the price point a bit for other competitors, IMO. Just cars, I laughed when it was assumed I had a financial intrest in DSE, with my wife and kids in my money clip, there is no chance of that, LOL. |

The frame is very close in General design to my modified (by BRP)sub frame, with the exception of the narrowed frame rails. Now I am not saying it is even in the same league looks wise, so nobody yell foul. The clearance issue, as Steve stated, is eliminated by the R&P. If I were not so deep in my sub frame, I'd pony up the bills for the frame. I am going to run a speedway splined sway bar up front rather than the rear mount.
