Welding helmet
Ok what do you have for a welding helmet just curious looking for something with an auto shade.
|
I've used Miller,Lincoln,Astro,3m speed glass and Harbor freight. They all did the job just fine. I'd try to find one that is light weight if you'll be using it for hours on end.
The Speed glass was heavy and poorly made for the price to me. The harbor freight was cheap in price, decent quality and never failed me. I used that as a cheap helmet when I was taking welding classes. But I'd use it at home no problem. I use Miller elite at home now but the batteries die fast. I've tried different brand batteries and interstate last the longest in the helmet. I have 2 miller elites. One that's just for my tig welding and one for mig. I do this because the lens gets mig splatter on it and I got tired of changing lenses just to tig weld. Hope this helps |

I've used many over the years, loved my old Jackson, but when it died went to the Miller digital Elite. It's good except the head gear. They had several revisions and are on the 3rd. The latest head gear is okay, the first two absolutely suck. So if your buying used, be prepared to buy a new head gear for it.

I'm a hobbyist that may not know any better but my Hobart helmet has served me just fine. I wouldn't be surprised if there was better out there, but I really have no complaints about it for what I do.

Any good quality helmet will be your friend. I love my Miller Digital Elite. Little features like not dimming when you look outside really add value. Also, I love adding the reader inserts so you can see up close. I went from dreading my welds to enjoying it again. Very light helmet as well.
Hope that helps. Scott |
We are all going to have opinions. You really need to try them on. I have a Miller Elite, a Digital Elite, and a SpeedGlass 9100xxx and far and away I love the SpeedGlas the most.....It's the only one I still keep in the bag. The head gear is far better for my head than the Miller and I find the optics to be clearer as well.

I have a Miller elite and a Jackson. I use the Jackson the most. The interwebz speak very highly of that new 3M Speedglass but I have not had the opportunity to try one.
|
I have a Jackson W60 True Sight.....pretty good mouse trap IMO. :sieg:

I have a Lincoln 3350 series helmet. LOVE IT! The 3350 is Lincoln's top-of-the-line helmet series, provides the best optical clarity available in a welding helmet today and the largest viewing area in its class.

I just picked up the Miller Infinity, Black Ops. Haven't used it yet, just got it last week.
Oddly enough I tonight I was skimming through the manual a bit just to familiarize myself with it. I can't wait to try it out! |

Lmao....there we have it ..Ron says miller and so does his "friend" ...looks like she'll need some cream on those burns she's going to get from all that exposed skin . Any volunteers?

Optrel vegaview 2.5
Great field of view, nice shape to fit your head in tight spots. Good adjustment for hood to head position and a very light tint when not dark. I love mine. https://www.weldingsuppliesfromioc.c...FUk7gQodL20Pow |

I have a Rhine helmet that works fine I think I paid less than $100 and it came with a bag. I don't do a lot of welding really, I just weld on my project car and stuff at home.
|
Tell your friend to just dip the tip, not lather in anti spatter.
|
I wouldn't have a clue.....
I think I had 6 of them hanging on the various tanks of welding gas... they're all different -- and you need different ones for different tasks IMHO..... Like most tools -- you need different ones for getting in to tight places - or one that you can do dirty welding in vs the one you're going to do thin gauge stainless on the work bench... But NUMBER ONE THING YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO DO IS TO SEE THE PUDDLE. PERIOD. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...NG/file-15.jpg |
Totally agree with being able to see the puddle. I've been hobby welding for decades...and I thought I was pretty good at it...until I bought a self dimming helmet. It has adjustable everything, and now I can actually see what I'm doing. Makes all the difference.
