Photobucket issues???

I'm noticing some of us are experiencing issues with Photobucket.

Can we just upload from our desktop or mobile device yet with out the need for a third party or is that still the best.

Sieg, if your reading, u still recommend Smugmug?

SSLance 06-30-2017 04:02 PM

I started using smugmug and like it, but that doesn't help the thousands of pics I already have loaded on photobucket that are hot-linked here and other places. Screw photobucket...

Photo bucket sucks so bad.

Spiffav8 06-30-2017 09:12 PM

I switched to SMUGMUG. It's well worth it.

JKnight 06-30-2017 11:14 PM

Seriously just put a wrench in the automotive forum world. Total PITA.

slimjim 07-01-2017 06:34 AM

NOT COOL, I have started using Imgur.com, but I'll be busy for hours just updating my build thread alone

dontlifttoshift 07-01-2017 07:08 AM

imgur doesn't allow hotlinking either.

***edit to add, if you are not paying for a product that you are using, then .you. are the product.

Photo bucket has a new policy requiring "pay for service" as I am reading my contract popup on their site.

i've been using if for years with the understanding if I was to keep it under a certain amount it was free. I think i read it was right at $60 a year.

no more hot linking.

You can hot link for $400 per year. Killing a lot of useful build and how to threads across all forums.

I'll try this again...

I post a lot of pics here and ditched pb to now use...

I always wondered if they would do something like this. A small monthly charge would've been more well received.

Just opened me an account on post image and I'm already linking it. Pretty simple and easy to use.

Small fee. They wanted 399 a year from 0. NOT a good biz practice. Not only am i going to delete my account, i will do no business/associate with Photobucket anymore. A simple email stating that "hey, in 30.60.90 days, we are going to change our policy to a little more pay to play" and i woulda been in, for a fair fee.
Shoulda taken Seig's advice two/three years ago when he mentioned smugmug for like 30 a year.....oh well.

Sometimes progress regresses.

Vegas69 07-03-2017 08:07 PM

Yep, say $10 a month. I'd put my money on them coming out way ahead with this strategy vs. pissing everybody off.

glassman 07-04-2017 09:05 AM

Really? or r u being sarcastic? I put money on them shooting themselves in da foot, but i'm not a bean counter techy. (maybe i should be?)

edit, Oh, Did you mean if they offered us (part time PB users) a small monthly fee rather than large ransom?

Vegas69 07-04-2017 09:55 AM

Yes, a small monthly would've worked out OK for them. The large fee may put them out of business. Once you tarnish your reputation in modern times, it's tough to turn it around.

Boss 5.0 07-04-2017 10:04 AM

A few months ago I upgraded to their 20 package, which I see is no longer available. I did so because I ran out of the free storage space. Don't remember exactly the cost, but it seemed very reasonable to me.

All my pics are still showing up right now in threads. I wonder when my renewal comes due if I will lose it all?

As has been said, the small amount was easy to swallow. Had they done that with all members I would think most would stay. Unlike the giant vacuum sound thats happening now as everyone leaves them behind.

NOT A TA 07-04-2017 10:57 AM

I also have a plus 20 account I thought was reasonably priced for the services provided.. My pics are still up and I can still link new pics. The pop up ads that slowed using the service the past several weeks have disappeared even though I didn't pay the $15.00 they wanted to remove the ads and now the service works faster for me than it has in months.

BigBronco 07-04-2017 02:55 PM

I use Imgur with no issues.

Photobucket is suffering a slow death as they failed to adapt as the internet changed directions.

cluxford 07-04-2017 03:47 PM

Jump on their facebook page.....wow the rage is intense. I've never seen such vehement anger to a company by it's customers

BMR Sales 07-05-2017 10:15 AM

F-PhotoBucket - they could Pay me & I wouldn't take them back!

GregWeld 07-05-2017 04:31 PM

LOL at all of this..... Photobucket has always sucked.... but I've always been PO'd at LATERAL G for making me use a third party cut and paster. I hate having to upload photos to Photobucket -- rather than just drag and drop straight to my posts.

When PB goes south --- all my posts will just simply no longer have photos. Lateral G is THE ONLY REASON I have Photobucket.... or I wouldn't need any photo "service".

I post on three forums and same as you Greg, it's the only reason I have a Photobucket account!

waynieZ 07-09-2017 06:47 PM

I just got my blackmail notice from Photobucket today.

Yep, though maybe I was off the hook for a while too. Then got my email and broken links yesterday. Years of build threads and write ups on various forums ruined.

This work around works for now, I am sure they'll catch on though. I edited my links and the pics show up for the time being.
