Hot August Nights in Reno, Who's been..?
Just trying to get an idea of what to expect, where to go, how it works...?
Reading their website it sounds like the whole town is a carshow without any one venue being the central spot? |
The whole town is a car show. Gets hot in day time so walking thru parking lots is more fun at night. Grand Sierra, Atlantis, Peppermill, Downtown, Downtown Sparks. Auction at convention center across the street from the Atlantis. Swap meet on North end of town. I'll be at Atlantis.

Thanks Charley!
We'll be at the Whitney Peak up by Harrahs. |
I haven't been to Reno in about 20 Years, but Weld told me it's a Dump!
Given that, I'll be in the Summit "Big Boy Toy Store" :hello: |
Leaving on a Jet Plane......
See you soon in Reno! |

Had a great time.......Will be there again next year............

Also had a great time. Just happened to pick a hotel that was on the same corner as the famous sign. Watched the parade of hotrods every night. The weather was perfect, no humidity, no bugs, every night around 6 a breeze would start blowing and not stop.
Apparently the Grand Sierra was the epicenter for all the big parties and hotrods, we missed a lot of that doing more touristy stuff like Tahoe. Speaking of Lake Tahoe, that place was breathtaking! ...but the crowds were insane. I did not find Reno to be the shizhole it was rumored to be. The area around some of the older casinos is run down but overall not much different than where I'm from. Same bums sleeping in the park, same panhandlers hanging around the casinos. But tons of folks walking dogs, kids playing, people friendly. Jeff- |
Three hours away, Mother-in law lives there (nice area up off of 431)....still haven't been. Still on bucket list. Some day...Pics anybody?

It was good - the show was busy, a lot of nice cars ( I probably saw 1% of what was there), a lot of good people - made a lot of new friends, Made some $$ in the Casinos, got back to Tampa alive. Mission Accomplished! |

Dump is a relative term --- and when they're charging me $400 a night for a room that they sell the rest of the year for $80.... and half the restaurants in the hotel are closed up -- and I about vomit every time I have to walk thru the bridge to the parking lot/car show.... and I'm afraid to walk around at night. I don't go back. The term is also relative to what that show USED to be.... and the Auction USED to be.... and how many cars USED to be in town. Maybe it's recovered from the "low's" but I haven't been convinced. I suppose to someone that hasn't been there before - they'd think it was pretty cool -- but I started going there when HAN was THE SHOW in the west.... Now - the only guy I know that still goes there is Charley. Not a single friend that used to go there goes anymore and they're all still going to shows and have some really nice cars. The reasons are always the same -- overcharging for the rooms -- the car quality overall etc. Each year we all touch base and discuss if we should "try it again" -- nobody has said they would. |

I thought it was the normal business model for hotels...?
Anywhere I've traveled on an event or holiday weekend, it seemed local businesses all ramped up the gouging... I expect it. Jeff- |
