69 camaro rear suspension?
 

I'm looking to finish up with the rear suspension on my Camaro that already has the ridetech front coil over suspension along with the tru trac kit.

I have (4)13" wilwoods yet to install and full dynatech exhaust with the x pipe that currently on the car.

I don't have any plans to mini tub it and it has a new stock gas tank in it.
I have a new to me 10 bolt that was used in a ridetech 4 link, so brackets are already on it.

Currently looking at ridetech 4 link and speedtech's torque arm set up.

Car is a street car with maybe a few autocrosses here and there.
My biggest concern is being able to use my current exhaust and getting 9.5" wheel under it.

What have others done about exhaust using eithers kits?

You will need custom tailpipes. Easiest if you go under the axle but it can be done over the axle with Ridetech. Haven’t done it with the Speedtech so I can’t say.

If you have a transverse dual muffler it will have to be replaced with singles.

I have speedtech ( drives very nice very happy with) I used 3" stainless over the axle, mini tubed. Both rear suspensions will require custom tail pipes to fit, the X is tight in the Camaro with the Torque arm.

There seems to be some manic obsession with running the tailpipes over the rear rearend housing. I suppose if you are working with a vehicle that is at or near stock ride height then pipes under the rearend would be visible and look a bit out of place. When the car is lowered significantly [like most of ours] the rearend is buried up into the car so far that those concerns go away.
If you look at the rearend housing position at full droop, [after the new suspension is installed], the mufflers are still lower than that level, so you have to go "up" to run them under the housing. The point is, they don't hang down or look out of place, and the routing is MUCH easier. I have been running them this way on the 48 Hour Camaro [and Velocity before that] for years.
Since our triangulated 4 link rear suspension does not intrude forward of the mufflers, most any brand of X pipe/muffler will be fine...and it will be a fairly simple deal to make tailpipes.

Hey Bret. Could you post a few pics for us please? I have your 4-link in my 69 Camaro and have it pretty low. Been trying to figure out where to run pipers back and am open to going under. Currently I am just dumping in front of the rear end and it drums horribly!

Ps- have the full RT setup front to back including Tru-turn and a Tiger cage. Very happy with it all.

I ended up going with Ridetech's 4 link set from Dale @ Schwartz's Performance-Dale thanks for the info.

It's going to be a winter project to install the rear suspension and new sniper fuel system. I have had the car since 81 and still has the same air shocks, but got rid of the N50's years ago:lol:

My exhaust dumps in front of my Strange 9", but would like to extend it out a further. When my car is up on my 2-post lift, the rear droops all the way down to the point where the springs are unloaded and the rear appears to be hanging on the shocks, four-link, etc. If my exhaust went under my rear, the rear would be sitting on the tail pipes when I jacked the car up by the frame. How do I prevent this or what am I doing wrong?

I appreciate it. I too was wondering about the suspension resting on the pipes when at full drop. I also wondered how much it reduced the drumming? I assume that alot of the drumming in my car is caused by the exhaust reflecting in the axle well area as I currently dump mine just after the mufflers.

Put the tail pipes up and over the rear end?
IMO tail pipes under the rear are just ugly and are a copout. I have done it once in my car building career when i was 20 that was on a Prostreet 85 Mustang with a 4 link and 33 x 21.5 Mt tires on it.

I like em over the rear just because I don’t like to see them and I’m a glutton for punishment. It’s a fun challenge too.
