Ummgawa's Dads 63 Riviera
2 Attachment(s)
OK....Apparently Ummgawa has found his Dads old 63 Riviera that he talked about in his book "The Train Ride". And it apparently needs drivetrain stuff. I'm going to give him my drivetrain out of my 65 Riv if he does a build thread here. I think we need help egging him on.
|
If you were a real friend you'd just give him the Roadster Shop stuff.
|
"And"........a bucket full of Almonds..........LOL
|
Two things I know about this subject...
1. The Riv was in ‘The Train Ride. b. We ARE good eggers... |
Let me complete the acquisition process, and it shall be built here! The car is in a “junk yard” where it’s been sitting for 30 plus years, so it’s rough as a night in jail, but priceless to me.
|
Hurry up as we are all getting older..... and the Riv ran and drove great before it came apart.

I absolutely love the book but don’t remember a Riviera in the story...I’ll have to read it again, maybe a bit slower this time. :sieg:

Here’s the Skinny on how my dad finally found out about me crashing his Riviera.
When he got the first copy of the book and started reading it, he called me a few days after he started reading. He was laughing his ass off...and the book is how he found out the truth about his prized Black 63 Riviera with Silver (yes Silver) Leather interior and every option available by GM via Buick. Yep...he found out nearly 40 years later. |

Another Lat-G classic, LOL
Here's to hoping this story line comes to pass  |
Better hurry, Jim. Rain's coming in early afternoon. It's beautiful out right now though.
Good luck! This is so cool. |
Stock Riv road test
Here’s a fine example and some history on the early Rivs...
No pressure Jim... :P |
Sweet mother of GOD!

My Dads 63 Riviera was jet black, Silver leather 2+2 with every option available in 63. It had the “465 Wildcat” motor (torque of course, not cubic inches) dual quads, train horns, everything. It’s downfall was the two speed turbo transmission. I bet it crapped the bed three times during my dads years of ownership. It was Marine Corps clean and maintained like a mistress. My dad was literally off on a business trip, trans went out with my mom driving, and she got a cab home and told the towing company to keep the car for the towing bill. My dad got home a week later, and literally all hell broke loose. He had AAA and full coverage, but my mom signed the title over to the tow company, and the deal was done. My dad drove Mercedes for the rest of his days, but still lamented over that Riviera every year on his birthday and any other day it came to his mind. It remained a serious bone of contention, similar to the Leg Lamp in a Christmas Story, to this day. I hope and pray I can strike a deal to get it back, even if I just drive it by my parents house, on the rollback, so he can see it one more time. He’s so old and rickety now, that would do him well, knowing it was in my hands. I loved that Black Beauty as much as he did, and thought it my duty to keep it washed and spotless.
Here’s hoping I can get it back. |

Now THIS is awesome. Jim, if there’s anything I can do up here to help you get this thing to where your dad can see it, hit me up.

That’s two of us! |
Well, just got back from a funeral for my uncle, ready to hit the junk yard tomorrow where the car is sitting. Tornado warnings and bad weather all day Monday, hopefully get in tomorrow or Wednesday...

Well, last night was interesting. The tornado sirens, phone alerts, weathermen all said to “get in your safe space immediately!” And as soon as we got downstairs, I heard the tell tale FREIGHT TRAIN outside, and our three story house sounded like it was getting pounded by baseballs and debris. I’m telling you, God spared us. The tornado touched down a quarter of a mile past us and trashed an entire neighborhood. I don’t have so much as a shingle out of place, and my antique weather vane is still sitting up top. Lots of limbs and such scattered about, but not more than that. That green notch you see at the lower center just above and left where it says “Fairburn”, that’s the tornado. The purple is softball sized hail raining down, and the black line is the river dividing my county from Fulton where Atlanta is located north. The flat part of the notch above the black line is where my house sits in the woods, on a hill. I can’t believe it didn’t get wasted.

sounds like a rough one Jim, glad to hear all is well with your place and family.
Hope the community can get through this event somehow, it certainly is a terrible thing. |
Glad to hear all is ok with you guys Jim. We got rain and lightning. It all went south of us.
