Please help me decide on new wheels (67 camaro)

Getting things dialed in on my 67 camaro and it’s time to get rid of the rallye wheels in favor of something that will clear the bigger brakes that I have planned in the future. I want to run 18x9.5’s and 18x8’s I like everything from the weld rts to the vintage wheels work v40’s open to any suggestion. I’d even be open to a used set. Just wanna keep the price under 2500 for the set. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to find what you're looking for, with that budget.

Nwl3_21 05-13-2018 01:43 PM

I was just looking for different recommendations, maybe something I haven’t seen before.

I understand. With your budget, the choices will probably be mostly traditional fare, though. Any particular style you really like, retro/vintage or contemporary? Those V40's you mentioned never seem to go out of style.

Look at Budnik. They make some nice wheels that are in the same price range as Weld RTSs. I had Budnik Cobalts on mine, which I really liked.

Go with 8s in the front (4.75bs) and 9s in the back (5.25bs). 9.5 are good on 69s, hit or miss on a 67/8.

There is a beautiful pair of Rushforth Battery wheels for sale in the parts section. 18x9 with 5.25 backspacing..... Just sayin

If there were 4 wheels I’d probably pick them up I’m having trouble getting what I want before the time I want them by which is 6/5. As it is the welds won’t ship til 6/26 and the v45’s are the only ones that vintage has in stock... I was thinking of just getting torq thrust II’s for the time being but they are more than I want to spend on those particular wheels unless I go 8front and 9rear. Has anyone put 275’s on a 9”wide and how would it look in relation to a 235 on an 8”wide whee?

Thanks again-

ET has some pretty nice looking wheels that would work in your budget. I like the LT-III myself.

You should be able to get a set of 18x8 and 18x9 TT vn215's or vn515's, for less than $600, from Discount Tire. If they are on sale, knock another $100 off. 235's will fit fine on an 18x8 wheel and so will 275's, on an 18x9.

Thanks, Usazr1 and 68efivert. I’m gonna email et and see what the lead time will be just to confirm the right fit I’m gonna go with an 18x9.5 with a 5.5bs and an 18x8 with a 4.75bs. Will that work? I’m pretty sure the vn515’s are18x8 w/ 4.5bs and 18x9 w/ 5.0bs. They are 770 for the set. One other set I was looking at was the Ridler 695 in 18x8, 9.5 with 4.5bs on the 8 and 5.49bs on the 9.5. And those are only 625 for the set. Thinking of just going cheaper for now because eventually when I finish the front suspension and mini tub I’ll be going with the Boze torque.

Discount Tire will price-match anything you find, online. My VN215's in 18x8's and 20x10's retailed for $825/set but I found them on ebay, for $600, and my DT salesman matched it. Since I purchased them during the 2017 Memorial Day sale period, I received an extra $100 rebate. That sale is happening again, this month.

Thanks for the info I was just about to order the wheels before I read this... discount tire is America’s tire correct? I’ll go there tomorrow and get everything on it’s way. Thanks again!👍

We vote yes! <grin>

572Camaro 12-01-2018 09:03 AM

I vote you look at Budnik for wheels, although those Rocket attacks look pretty cool.
Here's a thought to consider as you make your selection..,
If you have nice brake package with two piece rotors and a high end caliper, then pick a wheel that has plenty of "opening" to show off what you have.
If, however, your brake package is not up to par, then simply select a wheel with less opening.

Best of luck choosing and please let us know what you decide..,
