"Perennial Falcon" carbon fiber 1961 Falcon
I've been working on a Falcon for a few months now. Don't have a whole lot of details to share yet. It is being constructed of mostly composites and powered by some form of Ford powerplant.

Love the carbon work. Wish this was a 62 or 63 so I could get a set of fenders. Are you going to flare this? I am getting ready to cut my fenders out. The narrowness of the falcon, while great for slaloms, will limit the ultimate performance. After 5 seasons of running my car I finally feel like can out drive it so it will be going under the knife for 4-5” flares and more power.

It was a tough choice 60-61 vs 62-63. There are a few people building composite parts for 62-63 already so I went with 60-61. These fenders are a "stock" set with the built in air dam. I also built molds that do not include the air dam. For this car I expect to move the wheel opening upwards 1-2 inches and possibly add a slight flare. As you said narrow is good for slaloms and the car will primarily be used for autocross. |

Yeah, it's a Crites. The actual panel itself looks great on the car, and the gaps everywhere line up very well, but I was disappointed with the work I had to do to the factory hinges to get the hood to fit properly. I will say, it's the first fiberglass piece that I've ever used on a car, so maybe my expectations should've been different.

How much HP are you wanting if you decide EcoBoost? I have done a couple 3.5 Swaps and have a complete donor 2.7 I will most likely drop in one of my '66 F100's. Eco1 a bone stock from intake to exhaust tune only made 420/532 @ tire 532 lb ft at under 3000 rpm. Eco2 with just a "slight" turbo upgrade should make 480-500 RWHP What amazed me especially on the first one (buying a donor) was the engine was nearly free for a 6400 mile used engine. 3250.00 for complete truck and sold well over 1000.00 in parts. If one wants 1000 HP is not out of question. (better rods n pistons needed over 500 rwhp) Parts for the engines are beyond cheap. A NEW Steel Crankshaft good for 1000 hp is under 100.00! I thought that was a price mistake so actually ordered one. Connecting rods were 11.00 each. Would love to see you go 3.5 Eco as 500 RWHP and 600 TQ in that falcon would be unreal. Great Project! I am not planning any engine mods other than a tune for my 3.5 EB swap. My power goals are modest and would be happy with 400hp 450 ftlbs. I figure should make my 2800-2900lb car run pretty good.
I was sold on the EB engine after seeing what wheel horsepower a bone stock F150 rental truck made on the Holley Chassis dyno. |
At this point I'm looking at the 2.3 ecoboost. Mostly from a weight savings perspective. I haven't been able to find a published weight of a 2.3. A Ford Motorsports rep said the 2.3 is 247 lbs. I'm not sure that is correct, 347 lbs is more believable. My goal is to have the Falcon weigh half of what the (4000 lb) Galaxie weights. I feel 300 hp would move that along pretty well for auto-x or a short road course.

I have to find my notes when I weighed my 3.5, I believe it was 417 with turbos and flywheel w/o pressure plate, disc and bellhousing dry. I don't recall if I had the alternator, AC compressor, starter or the E250 PS pump I am using.

A buddy has a Mustang with the 2.3EB, the car is pretty impressive and would have to guess it is 3300lb or more.

You should do a tutorial on laying up the composite parts. That'd be awesome if you had the time.
