Laguna Seca: Black Friday + 105 DB
Listen up, punks. Thanks to some peer pressure from Dave G. and a friend who just moved to Vietnam for really weird reasons, I have signed up for this event. It should be great, even if it rains. Since when does it rain in Movember? That's for East Coast types, not us.
This event is brought to you by pointless spending, a need for speed, the joy of oil leaks, and the NorCal Shelby Club. You needn't be over the age of 60 to attend. Even if you're not driving, there will be some seriously cool stuff to see while you're getting over the pain of badly cooked turkey, disgustingly prepared mashed potatoes, and the joy of relatives and in-laws. Come on out! |
Haha love it.
I am a strong maybe. :) |
I am going. Fast, maybe.
|
I’ll be there but only to harass people.
See ya there. |
Laguna track day
On the fence... I think I have the Breathers
figured out on the new engine for the Pantera so it doesn't puke on itself.. love to see Falcon, Mikey and that Weld guy... anyone know if Charlie is going that may change my mind:) Bob |
Quote:
No you won’t see Charley. He’s done tracking. He sold his stuff and bought a wheel chair. |
Do it, Bob--the Pantera needs to be seen and heard. I will probably be pushing oil through my main seals as a result of breather straining myself, so you won't be alone. Still working on it, but who cares? Plans indicate that Turkey Day will be in Mountain View, but I'll be staying in Salinas for a couple of days. Laguna will be necessary afterward, however the hangover may add slowness . . .

You, fast? Who could possibly know? Your C'mere-o's nice paint would be an excellent contrast to my Falcon's trash-white attempt at metal protection . . .

So, i'ma gonna drive slow, 2nd gear the whole time.... |

Glad you're not in my group.... :peepwall: :D |
If you're in red, everybody's in your group. Come track day, movements (out of red) will be necessary, as you Bay Area types just live to create traffic jams everywhere you go. I usually wind up volunteering to go down, then wind up with tons of track all to myself in yellow . . . Nobody wants to be yellow.:getout:
Depending on how the car's behaving, I could go up one. Since you've got the full pajamas and extra-loud exhaust, Dave, you should aim for green. Tomorrow may include some new brake pad bedding on a lovely country road . . . Quote:

I’ll be there running red.. mustang is gone so I’ll be in my nightfall grey zl1 1le...#20 on the sides
|
Based on what I've seen anyone and everyone is apparently qualified to do Green at the Norcal Shelby events....
Forecast is showing rain.... which we need actually to move this crappy air out of here. :disgusted: |
Rain going through my bitchin' new hood vents (not from Home Depot's HVAC section!) concerns me far more than rain at the track. It's the central coast. How much rain could there really be? I'll ask my knees and shoulders the morning of . . .
|
I've got all my paperwork printed out and paid.
Drivers meeting at 8. these are the only important things i saw on their webpage -Any run times posted? typically 4 run groups with 20 minute sessions, 10 min apart? -is there any reason to be there earlier than 7:30/7:45? Tech is done by us, the -last time i ran with them they had someone doing tech checks... -when r u guys getting to the trac? curious.... |
Aim for 7:00, Mike. Things always take longer than they should, plus you might have to wait in line for something or find a sudden need to destroy a public restroom. I always seem to wind up running around for no reason--the concept of "Tech" seems to be different every time, so it really depends on who's in charge on a given day. Don't forget car numbering, removing junk from your trunk/door pockets/floors, fuel topping, mustache waxing, ninja mask darning, etc. There is a lot to be said for actually driving your car to the track, rather than pulling it . . .

So thoughts on which tire to run with rain in mind?
My track setup is the nitto nt01’s with track wheels Or my street setup ps4s on factory wheels? I guess no PR’s going to be had that Friday with rain.. and I assume the ps4’s will do better in the wet |

NT01's are not gonna do you any favors pushing it in the rain... I just don't see the point. They are a decent street R comp though. I daily drove NT01's for about a year / 12000 miles in a P car and they were tolerable in the rain, but that's not the track. If the rain system moves out of Friday I hope to sign up. |
As of this morning Red Plus is at 16 and Green is at 26 cars. FYI

Well made the switch today to rain / street tires..at least now if it's dry I have an excuse why i'm slow =)

That bronze looks sharp.

It's starting to look like I'll be driving/towing down the morning of, because holiday BS and weirdness are beginning already (not the biggest fan of holidays). It's 234 miles, via I-5. If it rains while I'm at the track, I'll take it as a reason for a much-needed nap. Man up. Pick a color. Groove your slicks or something.

In this case i'm color blind. I'm either doing yellow or red. red will depend on how many cars on the track. Good car, Great track, s0-s0 driver+wet= tread(wear) lightly....
I'm leaving at 5:30 ish. Nate? wat say u? or text me... IF you guys don't eat too much, you'll save .0001 off of your track times at a non-timed event.... |

I’ve made it to Carmel! See you bungholios tomorrow! |
Good luck tmrw for those that are going.... and be safe... hope you get some clear runs!
Happy Thanksgiving. |
Nate and Paul both said for me to go with the red group. They were totally right. As intimated as i was, and maybe going with the newbs, staying up in red was the ticket.
Last run session they put red+ with red and that was the only time i needed to wave anybody by... That is an incredible car too drive. And yes, i activated the ABS at least 10 times and the traction control came on twice, and that is a strange feeling. Anyways, till next time...mike |
I heard Treynor's GT4 with rain tires laid the smack down.....

He was wide fricken open, in the wet wet. I think they made him turn the sound down too. It was bada$$ watching him run though. Do you know him? It was a fun event. Laguna, woof. That part of lifes bucket list can't get refilled up cause you'll never get enough of that track. Lucky enough to be apart of racing history, just a great day. I do think that figuring out my braking zones in the dry will be ALOT easier.... sincerely, a hooked 4 time trac newb |

https://oppositelock.kinja.com/a-gui...ses-1529849729 I just know of the guy... local Google guy. He posts some nice videos in various places of his laps. Ran a 1:40 in that car at Sonoma a bit ago. Anyway, glad you had a decent day out there... I think you brought the right car considering the weather! |
All in all it was a nasty cold wet drizzly weekend..... Thanksgiving DAY was nice and sunny — but the rest of the time I thought I was in Seattle. UGH!
I went out to the track — Saw a couple people — but we didn’t hang out very long. David Pozzi came over - so we walked around a bit to see who was around. Saw Mike just as we were departing. Missed Nate... but I was looking for the MUSTANG not a Chebby... Oh — and I had parked the trailer in the lot close to the track as you came in - a dirt lot where the old manager had allowed me to park in the past (no I didn’t ask I just parked it and split).... Well all that rain.... Yeah... I was dang lucky I had 4 wheel drive dually!! I hooked it up (hard to get the ball aligned because the truck would just slide sideways!) and once I got her moving — I just laid it down and kept going!! The trailer was pushing the rear end sideways as the angle of the lot was “off camber” and I had to make a big swinging turn to get going the right direction but eventually I had to get it going UPHILL.... Just made it — and I mean “just”. The mud was epic and everywhere! |
I was hiding in Jon’s trailer trying to stay warm..so freaking cold and wet.
I only did three sessions and when it started really pouring in the afternoon and with my car in one piece I called it quits! See you at spring sprint weld |

I would have had far more fun with my truck in the mud on this day, and I really hate mud. You chose the right vehicle combo, Greg!
