Hello
Just looking for advice on value of these seats. what are they worth? Thanks |
I bought my fronts for $300 and had them recovered. Honestly $1000 for someone wanting to swap and redo. More if someone is redoing their stock recaro edition car

Ya ... this isn't really the site where you are going to get the money your looking for
Cheers Steve |
Hey Steve why do you say that?
Its no biggie if they don't sell they will stay in the car cheers |
I suspect you are best off leaving them in the car because that's where the value in those seats lies. They were proprietary to the car and not a regular production seat.
|
They are currently in my 71 Camaro
I Love the seats, but looking to do something different in the car. I am hoping to find a good home for these as I really dont want to re-upholster such a rare seat we'll see how it goes |
What year T/A are these out of originally?

They are 81. They were sought after back then mainly because they offered quite a bit of adjustability over the OEM seats which only moved back/forth...no tilt. The cars would get stolen and recovered with the seats gone.
Recaro offered them aftermarket as well specifically for a 2nd gen but I don't recall two tone other than what came on the Recaro edition Trans Am. I bought a set new-never bolted in for my 2nd gen. I bought them from the original purchasers son who's father had passed. His dad bought them in the 80's and they sat around since. He never got the car back on the road. Here's a pic of my 30+ year old/new seats. I had to swap seat brackets due to my different early floor pan. https://i.postimg.cc/RVqMCYxM/IMG-3609.jpg |
There's a redone set on fleebay for $3k. Your gonna have to go to a trans am purist page to get that kind of money for them. Here they will buy new ones for less money.
|
The seats are a one year only 1981 Nascar Trans Am
They are not the same as the black ones posted these have back rest adjustment from the round dial on the side and also have pull out lumbar on the bottom so similar in shape but that's about it Just the net headrests are super hard to find in this condition, had an shop offer me $750 for them ( didnt want to break up the set) so turned him down |

You may have a better chance selling them to the pontiac purists on the PY online forums.

If you don’t find a later model Pontiac purist at that price, have them re upholstered to a nice fresh custom look or to match the original interior theme of the car that they re going in. They re nice cores if no purist around.
Harold @New image interiors in Your local area will do a nice job. |
LOL
I talked to Harold already, just dont want to redo this set. I may have an option to get the same style fronts seats with wrap around head rest that are good candidates to get redone By Harold Cheers |

Harold has no idea what he's doing !! :bump:
LOL Steve |
It's really interesting seeing these seats in such good condition as I love them and would love to have them in my TA. I have similar Recaros now from a later model Jetta. These really are a timeless design in my opinion.
As others have said, a Trans Am specific site would be your best bet to get the most out of these as is. TransAmCountry.com is pretty big with the purists or was. You may have better luck there. Good luck to you |
These are the version that was on the 79 Mustang Pace Car:
