Project supercharged 68 camaro

With all these cool builds happening on this site I couldn't help wanting to share mine!

I have been wanting to buy a 1st gen camaro for a while and with limited time on my hands these days I knew I would have to buy something finished or close to it. I started looking on ebay and classic auto trader and of course craigslist. I ended up finding one and after some haggling with the broker selling it I was the new owner.

The car is a 68 with what seems like a decent restoration already and some good parts like a new crate ls3 a new 4l60 trans and some good bolt on suspension parts as wel as a bolt on 4 link.

After taking delivery of the car I did a couple changes like adding the RS front end and ditching the 5 inch cowl hood. After that and a handful of other things I had been driving it every chance I got. With the idea of building a DSE inspired driver I planned to tear into the car once the rain hit and that I did.

Here are some pics of the car before I torn it down.

Great looking ride. Be sure to check out our line of superchargers. We have our very popular Ls swap kit that fits excellent in the first gen Camaro. Here is an example

Definitely looks a lot better without the 5 inch cowl! Cant wait to see more.

More of the dse mini tub and quadralink install. I have to say this whole kit was a pleasure to install and was nice to see very well thought out instructions by the manufacturer.

Good call on raising the trunk corners for exhaust clearance while mini-tubbing. I had to go back and do mine after the fact:sieg:
You've got a great looking car to start with, can't wait to see the finished product!

One additional item I wish I'd done is DSE's fuel pump access panel in the trunk floor...it's a huge time saver down the road! Good luck:cheers:

I wish I could take credit for thinking of the trunk corners ahead of time but it was your thread that made it clear to me it was a must
The access panel for the fuel pump has also crossed my mind and is probably going to happen before paint.

Lol! Well I'm glad some good came from it! Nevertheless, you won't be sorry! Keep up the good work!

Looking forward to watching your car come together! Looking great so far, and I知 envious of your metal working skills!

I知 with Gmachine on the fuel pump access. Pretty cheap and easy to install now...

Getting to the end of the metal work stage of the dse mini tubs and quadralink install. Waiting to fit the new 9 inch rear end from DSE so that I can spot the upper shock mounts then move to installing the sub frame connectors then finally painting the underside.

With the decision to go with a supercharger I knew I would have to change the cam out again. Easy decision to go back to Texas speed for one of their stage 2 supercharged cams. The idea is for now to use my stock LS3 long block and next year add the LSX long block for more power but for now this setup will have to do so keeping the boost low is the plan.

More progress pics.

Nice car!

What parts did you use assembling the heat exchanger in it?? I have been looking around and it seems that C&R sells a pretty straight forward direct bolt it unit. Just need a pump and reservoir.

The detroit speed 9 inch rear end showed up :ups:...... I never installed the link pockets in the car so that was where I picked back up on the install. Being able to see the car on the ground and on the new forgeline wheels was all the motivation I needed to get back on it.

Just about to get back on this build and need to find a different photo hosting site :bang: Any recommendations??

slimjim 10-26-2019 04:12 AM

IMGUR.com, I'm partly relieved it's not my server making your photos blurry

214Chevy 10-26-2019 05:07 PM

I'd like to see more pics once you post them from another site. Looks good though from the stupid blurred out photobucket pics.

Not happy here as this pictures has made me really think hard and now I think I am going to go on the hunt to find my first car which was a 67 Camaro.

Something about the early first gens that I absolutely love and your car hit the nail smack dab on the head.

Looks perfect.

If it makes you feel any better I miss my '67 and would like one day to have it back.

Come buy mine before my heartbeat supercharger is installed

Thank you! However I'm repainting the car a darker shade of charcoal gray here soon. I hope its not a decision I will regret I suppose time will tell though.:snapout:

hdduramaxman 10-31-2019 11:38 PM

So........ I made a decision to dig a little deeper.

https://i209.photobucket.com/albums/...psvlnrncjw.jpg

https://i209.photobucket.com/albums/...psasubhctv.jpg

When I purchased the car the heating and air system was less then great and I knew it needed upgrading. With everything else I'm doing I just figured it was the best move to go ahead and strip it down a little further and swap out the cheap stuff for the good stuff. Once the clip was off it was plainly obvious that the work done to the car was less then great.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. I just happen to love the darker shades of grey myself. I'm sure it'll be just perfect.

syborg tt 11-15-2019 09:45 AM

So how far are you going to dig into this to see what else might not be done as nice as you had hoped
