Mule video going 200 mph on a chassis dyno

Wheel to Wheel and Mark Stielow just did some chassis dynoing of the Mule and there will be a couple videos of power pulls and this one is a run through the gear to 200 mph. This dyno can actually simulate the wind factor, drag coefficient, etc. just like you were literally trying to attain 200 mph.

Mule at 200 mph

That was nuts...those turbos were producing some serious heat!!! I think its funny hearing charley?? laughing at the end at how powerfully insane that car is.

Thanks Jody.

That is too cool Jody. That thing is QUIET man!

clill 03-11-2005 09:01 PM

That wasn't me laughing. They were laughing because the dyno was saying "Stop ! Overspeed" LOL...It doesn't like 200 mph. The 200 mph pull was at 12 lbs boost. The drag coefficient program only goes back to 1973 models so they entered the Mule as a 73 Nova which is actually probably a little boxier in shape than a 69 Camaro. It did 0-200 in a calculated 8/10's of a mile. Pulled 120-180 in 6 seconds. Made about 800 hp at the rear wheels at 14 lbs boost. Tires were smoking on the dyno at 120 mph. At 12 lbs boost is was making 750 hp at the rear wheels. It pulled almost 180 mph in 5th at 7200 rpm. I have no torque figures yet. This is all stuff I was told over the phone today so stuff might get clarified more by tomorrow. This is a blast...

Wow that was really cool. Insane power. Overloading the dyno LOL.

That car is a living legend. You must get to drive it on a highspeed track like Daytona or Talladega. It would probably with that power go 220 mph.

We have here in Sweden a sportscarmanufacturer, making handmade supercars, http://www.koenigsegg.com/ They claim they have the worl speed record for production cars.

There you have something to aim for Charley.

All I can say is WOW!! And Damn those headers got hot...I guess the heat shields were a good idea!!!

jonny51 03-12-2005 12:43 AM

That was pretty cool.

UNREAL!!!! ,Thanks for hookin us up with that

I damn near soiled myself.

I still maintain that is one of the top 3 baddest cars of all time. Right now I can't think of the other two, I just know they did not have A/C and a good Stereo.

"BIG RED" is one.

That awesome Charley. It had to have even better to watch in person.

Thanks but I wasn't there. :(

Steve1968LS2 03-12-2005 09:03 PM

Great video.. the text overlay was way cool..

I gave myself a new avatar to honor the Mule, feel free to use it Charley :D

I'm such a nerd...my favorite part (besides the turbo glow) was everytime he shifted....wish it was a 22 speed...I could watch that thing torque at shift over and over and over again.....amazing machinery.

Jay Hilliard 03-14-2005 08:26 AM

UNBELIEVABLE! :hail: I cannot imagine having that much power under my right foot. Second thought. Maybe thats a good thing. If I had that power, I might not be here typing. :D

61Bubbletop 03-15-2005 12:19 PM

Ahhhh...The sweet, sweet sound of excellent engineering. 200mph is quite a milestone, one to be proud of for sure! Many people claim it, but few ever prove it. Congrats Charley! :hail:

clill 03-15-2005 12:40 PM

Thanks but somehow I think doing it on a Dyno and doing it on the road are two different things. We know we have the power but the trick is to keep the car on the ground.....

XcYZ 03-15-2005 12:45 PM

I looked at the stats for the Mule videos that are hosted here and on Camcolb.com, and between the the two of us, the Mule videos have been downloaded over 4,500 times! And they have only been available for about 4 days.

Ummgawa 03-15-2005 01:05 PM

I swear the Mule is the Holy Grail of 69 Camaros. Mecca if you will... :D

:_paranoid Let's see if I can drain your bandwidth. Awesome video and a great choice on power adder.

BTW: Were you guys logging EGT's? You aren't getting them hot until you can damn near see through the turbine housing. :D

Good point Charley..I remember an article about Mark doing the "one lap" with Cameron, and they had a picture of, I think the red witch (it was one of the red ones) doing I believe 170 down the back straight, and the front end was lifting big time...I am sure Mark remembers that well...I believe it dropped a valve, or lost oil pressure going around the track...great article, even cooler car, even 170 is an incredible feat in one of these, and the Mule has far more HP....very impressive indeed...

clill 03-15-2005 01:55 PM

That was the Thrasher at 170. I think the front suspension was completely unloaded

parsonsj 03-15-2005 03:56 PM

Damned impressive

I watched it enough that my daughter begged me to make it stop!

Unreal!
