77' 911 Hotrod
 

Hey guys ... so, here we go again, divorce papers are almost signed and I'm ready to roll !! LOL

Ryan gave me sh@! for not posting this here, and I think this belongs here even more so than Killer Piggy build (which we will be going VERY soon) so here she is, my 1977 911 Carerra Hotrod build at CCSpeedline in LA.

So for quite a while I've been searching for a backdate/hotrod 911 and to be quite honest everything Ive seen has been extremely expensive, not the right colour, engine not good enough, interior sucks etc .... I stumbled across a partially completed build thread by a VERY reputable shop in LA asking what colour should I paint this car to sell. I reached out to Nathan and we talked for some time and the next thing I know I'm sending him a hefty deposit !!

This is a 1977 original Carrera with an IROC front bumper, duck tail that was going to be Nathan's (shop owner ... did I mention that he paints the 911's for Singer) personal car. Nathan is an amazing guy and somewhat of a purist, but I am pushing his boundaries a bit with this build but we completely see eye to eye on the ultimate vision of this car ... which is amazing and makes things so much easier and more exciting.

3.2 stroked to a 3.5 William Knight built, stack Injected JSR, 350HP engine
915 5 speed transmission with short shift kit
Full coil-over suspension
Cayman brakes
Custom Fuchs 7x15 / 8x15
Full custom interior
Full custom electronic controlled/valved GT3 exhaust
Custom electric AC system with dual condenser/upgraded Alternator
Roll bar / harnesses

YES YES YES ...!!!!! MORE ! absolutely love Steve's vision i see s far , very detailed oriented, very singer like . If this is a fraction of the 69 , or either fj40s , it will be amazing . As I said privately besides my chevelle my "next list is " a 67-72 c10 and a 911 porsche . Just because its German doesn't mean it doesn't belong here . Anyone with the slightest idea knows these 911s can identify as pro-touring , which is kinda surprising that nobody else has done one . Beyond excited to see this one pan out and if your serious Steve YES 100 percent would LOVE to take her around the block, if you need help with final assembly or want to lend me your credit card # ... let me know , cheers buddy

Thanks Ryan ... yes EVERY minute detail on this build is being considered without going down the abyss of the P-Car $$$. It's insane that I can build a new 750Hp LSA for the FJ55/Piggy for $12,000, and the cost of the 350Hp engine for this 911 Hotrod ... well, you dont even want to know !! :confused59:

At the end of the day though as Ryan has mentioned, it will have the Singer 'feel' but for a fraction of the price

Stay tuned ... This build will go quickly, she will be complete by May !!

Couple questions since I'm not a Porsche person. What's the box around the header? Why is the car surrounded by a cage currently?

Very cool and it looks like I will be seeing you at some of the upcoming Porsche events across the country. I’ve had a blast driving my Cayman R the last 4 summers. It’s hard to imagine why I didn’t buy one sooner. I jokingly say it was the best 40 grand I have ever spent.

Trey, took me a while to get up to speed on these older Porsches to my friend. So it turns out that they are heat exchangers that pull the hot air from around the exhaust to provide heat to the cabin.

It's just caged like that as a rotisserie ... she's getting ready for the paint !!

Marty ... Ha !! I hear ya, I had a Techart Cayman a few years back and likely the best handling car I've even driven. So with this 911, I'm after the same but with that extra 'cool factor' and that nostalgic feel/experience that no modern car can provide. Very much like the pro-touring/resto-mods we are building here on Lat-G.

Super excited about this build, I just WISHED I could grab a plane ticket and head down to the LA shop/CCSpeedline to see this thing and meet Nathan in person.

So the one thing I've noticed with the Porsche crowd is that they are more purist that any other group I've seen. So when Nathan wanted to build a Hotrod 3.0 Carrera, well that includes those exact wheels with that finish and that rubber. I actually like the look a lot.

Now that said ... I may purchase a 2nd set of 17's and have them coated to get this look

or dark centers, but its nice to be able to have the ability to really change the look like what you’re thinking of.

the interior color would really pop with those wheels, ever see a car where someone has put 2 different wheels on it ? . maybe dark centers on the pilots side and interior color centers on the drinker side ?. one car 2 looks

Ryan, RideTech did that with their second gen camaro build. Orange on one side and a dark gray? wheels on the other.

Steve, Thanks for the info. I thought that box might be for the heater since these cars are or were air cooled, but I'm just not familiar with them at this level. I love seeing them, especially the modified ones. I definitely prefer the larger wheels. I currently have two sets of wheels for the BMW so I certainly couldn't fault you for getting two sets for your car. Might be a good idea depending on the crowd you're hanging out with at the time. We wear event appropriate clothing don't we? Might as well make sure the car has event appropriate wheels, too!

So I've pretty much decided that it would be great to have 2 sets of wheels, originals and a more 'modern' set that sets the car/orange off a little more ...

After hours of deliberation we finally selected the leather for the interior. Hyde's Tribe leather must be one of the finest leathers I've ever felt, and the colour is spot on. slight orange tone but NOT in your face. Will be used for seats, door panels, wrapping roll bar and dash.

So ... as we all know, it's ALL about the finer details, especially on a build like this

custom painted gauges with Tach in body colour, with silk screened cream/white lettering, silver enters, red needles and 300Km/hr speedo !!
