1956 Chevy Bel Air Build - Project Daisy

My new project. 1956 Chevy Bel Air 2 door hardtop. One owner car, found and purchased locally. The seller's grandmother purchased it new and it had remained in the family. In theory, it was a survivor car, two paint jobs, no accidents, and all or nearly all original.

What I'm doing with it:
I drove it for a year and enjoyed it with the family, but it's now time to put it under the knife. I'm planning on turning this into a 3 season daily driver (or nearly daily as I don't commute). Classic styling, all modern comforts. All the good stuff that makes it more than the sum of it's parts.

I'm also "attempting" to get my kids involved with the project and learn a little bit about how cars are put together while also making some memories. As part of the incentive, I told them I would video parts of the build and post it to YouTube for them if they participate. We'll see if my bribe works or not.

Plan:
All the usual stuff. Roadster shop fast track chassis, Wegner 1,000 HP street LS3, Bowler Trans, Ricks tank, etc.

This is going to be great, thanks for posting!

Looks like a nice solid foundation to start from. Will be following along and anxious to see progress... have a soft spot for ‘56s... had a 210 2dr sedan as my first car. I still have it and will one day give it the pro-touring treatment. Love the videos, too!

Cool build! Just finished up on a Rotisserie resto on a '56 BelAir for good friend. We started on it in 1997 painted it in early 1998. Swapped in a very low mile LT1 but last year or so trying to actually finished the car switched engine to a crate LS3. So by the time we finished the car (in last few weeks) the paint is already 23 years old. He has owned the car going on 34 years. Now at 78 years old he can finally enjoy his "Dream Car"

Very cool, I’m excited to follow along.

Part 3 is up. Working on metal work as I wait for all these parts (mostly chassis/motor/fuel tank) to arrive.

So just a mild street setup? :drive:

WSSix 07-02-2021 08:09 PM

That chassis is almost too gorgeous to cover up.

RDuke 08-30-2021 03:05 PM

Just a few quick shots. I've been recording some clips but I haven't had a moment to put together another video yet. I'm overdue.

Fuel system finished up last weekend. Exhaust, Estopp, and Driveshaft next.

Getting a playback error on this; it looks like the video should have a hyphen at the start.

Excited for the updates!

Part 5 is up.

camcojb 09-23-2022 03:37 PM

Bummer about the fire. VERY fortunate it wasn't worse.

WSSix 09-23-2022 07:51 PM

Wow. Very tough break but very fortunate it wasn't worse. This is why I'm always paranoid about waiting and hanging out in the garage after I finished welding something up. I want to make sure it's all cooled off before I walk away. Good luck getting back on track.

Ketzer 09-24-2022 07:46 AM

Good God, Part 5 is a real rollercoaster!

I admire your attitude about the setbacks, a lot to be learned from the amazing build, but even more from your perseverance...

X2! Could not have said it better.

Maintaining the positive attitude after each set-back is inspiring so 'Thank You' for that. I'm sure I'm not the only guy who was picked-up by some of your comments.

214Chevy 09-24-2022 09:19 AM

Wow...sad story. Glad everything is going to work out for you and be ok. As a firefighter, I definitely know how bad this could've been. GOD is merciful...

omiotek 09-28-2022 02:54 PM

Glad to see everything was ok for the most part and no one was injured. It could of been much worse. If you do not have them, grab some flame retardant blankets. As a welder I use those religiously. Even grinding sparks can set something a blaze real quick.

I admire your adversity and will continue to watch your build. Keep your head up like you have done.

Goosesdad 09-29-2022 01:20 PM

Damn dude!! Keep staying positive!!

syborg tt 09-29-2022 02:01 PM

I am so sorry this happened and it is truly heartbreaking.

I can also see you are one hell of a fighter and I am so glad you are finishing the car and recovering from yet another hip surgery.

I couldn't have said it better. It was pretty much what I was thinking. You are a trooper and your positive attitude is inspiring.

I can't wait to see your skills and the progress on your build!

samckitt 10-06-2022 05:16 PM

Where did you get those wheels to roll around in the shop?

Sorry to hear about the fire.
