1988 Blazer - Corgi Hauler II

My wife did not like how low the 1978 2WD Blazer sat. I sold the ‘78 to pay for the paint job on the 1969 Camaro project Apex. I missed my Blazer for I found this 1988 Blazer in Las Vegas. It is a clean 88k miles rust free starting point. It is loaded for 1988. 350 with a the trailer towing package. PS, PB, Air, Cruise and power windows.

I spent last summer getting everything to work. It runs and drives great.

Very clean! What are your plans for it?

Stielow 05-23-2022 06:19 AM

So last summer I got everything to work and it was a great cruiser. AC blows cold, cruise worked even the 1988 cassette worked (kind of).

The winters are long and cold in MI so I blew it all apart.

LS3 with a 4L70E is going in. Mainly because the 1988 350 leaked oil.

I’m using the Holley front accessory drive, the mid mount. Makes a very clean and tidy package.

The Holley cast iron exhaust manifolds that I will connect to a 2021 Chevy High-county exhaust system I was able to buy off Facebook marketplace

Love the license plate frame, though they misspelled "Charley" lol. Of course he'll answer to nearly anything.

Great project especially for those of you that see snow.

Welcome back Mark!! You've been gone for quite a while.
Will you be leaving the stance as is?

Yes stock suspension. Maybe a tad bigger tires.

Funny thing, the wife complained the old 2WD drive one was too low. Now she want me to add a door handle so she can get into this one. I told her I was buy a small folding stool she can use to get in. You can never win.

Sorry for my lack of presence on Lat-G new job has me jumping.

No need for apologies Mark.
I think we all realize how busy you are, but are still happy that you continue to provide some of the most valuable input here.
Thanks for sticking around.

I have some fond childhood memories that include these square bodies. I'll probably end up with one eventually myself. Hopefully one that is done with an LS swap. I'll drive it and polish on it. LOL

1988 was the year started at GM as a summer intern. I remember driving these trucks when they were brand new. So purchased 1988 for a reason.

Good memories.

Mark,

It's going to be nice!. I have 1983 that I am considering going to LS. Mine was originally a 6.2 diesel that I swapped an SBC in a few years back.

Your transfer case looks like the NP208 so did you use an adapter from Novak or did it bolt up to the 4x4 4L70E version directly with no mods? I would also be curious to know what engine mounts you used. It appears you made your own spacers to get a little more lift on the pan. Looking forward to updates

It was an adaptor from Advanced Adaptors. Bolted to the 4L70E and gave a electric vehicle speed tone wheel and pickup for the ECM.

The engine mounts were Holley, but because we used a GM truck oil pain we spaced it up a 1/4 inch.

Rad is a 2021 with stock GM cooling fan. I should have no cooling issues. Total cost around $300.

New rad used fans. No aftermarket parts will come close to this for the price.

Some assembly required….

The engine bay is feeling like a Jonny Cash song- I built it one piece at a time. Induction is 2018 Tahoe. Intake 2010 L92 truck. Brake booster and master 2019 Tahoe. Coolant bottle 2021 Silverado. Rad and Fans 2021 Silverado. ECM 2010 Corvette. Ha! I’m kind of a GM guy..

Time to get all the cool Sled Ally parts power coated.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Stielow 05-30-2022 08:06 AM

While the parts are out getting power coated we cleaned up the engine bay vs blowing it apart to paint or powder coat. This is a 88k mile NB truck so very little rust.

Because this is going to be our Barrett Jackson tour car this year we are swapping the seats. After looking at a lot of GM seats I settled on 2018 Full Size truck seat. I wanted full manual so it would be easy. Stock flip center console. This were off Facebook marketplace for $250. I need to fully recover them any way so the Upolstry really does no mater. They fit great and are way more comfortable than the stock seat and the slide back to adult height.

Love how you integrate the later model factory pieces. Is it okay to add this one to your website?

I love how your "custom" builds integrate a lot of stock GM parts. Are the radiator top mounts a stock GM part also or something you had built?

Sled Alley built those but the rubber isolators are 2022 Caddy CT5. The lower isolators are 2022 full size truck. I’m sick and tired of failing radiators. Use the GM stuff and it should last 100k miles easy.

Your statement has me wondering..... "Failing" as in aftermarket vs. OE or just in general?

I thought the issues he had in the past (Red Devil or LT5) was not enough movement of the Radiator and Fans assembly even having it rubber mounted to the core. So he wanted to go with a frame mounted unit like GM uses in all cars to allow it to move around a bit and not break anything. At least that was the story on the Camaro's.

Yes, I was aware of that. I wasn't sure when he began the 'floating' mount locating vs the old school bracketry. My question was more toward is there still issues w/aftermarket radiators failing w/the updated mounting method?

thedugan 06-03-2022 09:56 AM
