Ultimate headers for Roadster Shop chassis

2 Attachment(s)
My buddy has decided he wants a 70 Chevelle like me, so he's collecting parts for the build (still needs to find a 70 Chevelle lol). Roadster Shop chassis, LSX B15 engine, Whipple 3.0 with Wegner front drive, Tremec trans, etc. The recommended headers from Roadster Shop are made by Ultimate Headers. They showed up a couple days ago, and since my project is in limbo right now I pulled my exhaust off and test-fitted the headers.

Quality is phenomenal, fit is perfect, clears everything easily regardless of engine position, and sit above the bottom of the frame rails. Just wanted to give a shout out to Jim and the guys at Ultimate Headers for a job well done.

Very nice looking headers. Appears the passenger side would need to be removed to access the starter. Is that correct?

Powermaster XS Torque Starters 9509

This worked perfectly on my Wegner LS3 with ultimate headers/RS chassis.

I think a mini starter would sneak in without removing but I haven't tried. At most loosening the bolts up top would allow it. I'll be out there today, I'll find out.

EDIT: Starter almost goes in, but loosening the upper bolts is all that's needed.

Nice headers

Why is the car in limbo?

Unexpected family medical bills, which take priority. Also waiting for a slot with my painter Jim. Good thing is my buddy keeps me busy with his car projects...

Hope all is okay with the family.

Thanks Doug, I really appreciate it.

You gonna be around for SEMA?

First off, Jody...hope family is all good. Second, Jim at Ultimate headers is alright with me. I ordered some headers from him and for some odd reason, one of the drivers side tubes was hitting a head stud by a very small margin. I had waited about 16 weeks or so for the headers and they didn't fit. Nonetheless, he made me a new pair within a few weeks and rushed them out to me and they fitted perfectly. I have the same finish as you Jody...

Thanks!! These are actually for my buddy (mine's a turbo), who's building a clone to my 70, other than an LSX/3.0 Whipple. His chassis is on order and his headers showed up, so I removed my exhaust and checked the fit for him. Super nice stuff from Ultimate Headers.

I also received a set of ultimate headers from Jim about 2 months ago. I needed alternations from their standard dimensions based on the substantially raised transmission and tailshaft for proper driveshaft working angles in my car. I measured the fit from their off the shelf specs, provided them with drawings of what alterations were needed for my car, and they absolutely nailed the fit for only a small added cost for the alterations.

Great people to work with and great quality headers. Spark plug access is excellent, and they're very easy to install. Probably the nicest fitting (and looking) set of headers I've installed.

Funny you mentioned the 3.0 Whipple & Wegner combo-- I also have a brand new 3.0 Whipple and Wegner accessory drive sitting at the house... LOL

(It's actually for my car, after all these years I decided to ditch the still not completed twin turbos and go with the 3.0 Whipple. I recently tuned a car with a built LS3 and a 2.9 Whipple and that instant torque seemingly regardless of RPM is just stupid fun.)

Tried a 9409 PowerMaster (didn’t work, hit header). I have the 9509 on my other Chevelle with Holley long tube headers and it works fine in that setup. I’m going to use a stock (AC Delco) starter (it’ll fit, pretty small).

Oh, that’s my engine and headers btw, lol

One more thing Jim wanted me to add is that these are 2” headers 😉👍

Interesting, did you adjust it? (the body can rotate).

Lol, yep. It’s our mental health break to do this stuff. Lord knows I need it with my job these days :hairpullout:

The tube hit on the round body of the starter, not the solenoid. Clocking wasn't going to help. These are larger tube headers than their normal ones, and we asked them after the starter didn't fit; told us they designed it with a stock GM starter which is smaller.

Sounds like a problem easily solved with a BFH.

I should probably check to make sure my powermaster starter fits with my headers. Worst case I'll sell the powermaster and pick up an AC Delco starter if that's what they built them around.

Did you get the 2" tubes? The stock GM starter clears easily.

No, 1-7/8". I didn't even know they offered 2" tubes for their stock chassis A body LS swap application, and they didn't mention it on the phone when I ordered.

Don't think I'll have any starter clearance issues with mine though, the tube routing for the stock chassis header on the passenger side is quite a bit different from the headers in your pics for the RS chassis application.

These headers are for the RS chassis.

Headers fit great with stock LS starter. Can’t wait to get my RS Chassis and really start putting this project together. Thank you Jody for letting me put my engine in your RS chassis to test fit and look for any potential snafu’s.
