My 68 Chevelle LS1 Turbo Build

I bought this car about 6 or 7 years ago, it was a running complete grandma 6cyl car with blue interior. I slowly started gathering bits and pieces and started to build it. It sat most of that time, picking at it here and there until I got some help thrashing these last few months to get it on the road. Between running two businesses and being a full time single dad of a 5 year old daughter, needless to say I dont have much spare time.

Car was completely frame offed, everything powdercoated, painted or thermal coated. I plan on having the car painted next year, ripping out the cheap seats and putting in something nice and overall just tweaking things as I go. I have about 100 miles on the car now, it runs and drives really well.

Made 500hp and 480tq at the tire on 8psi, I plan on dropping down to an 18" wheel all the way around with some more tire in the back, something really sticky. It doesnt hook for **** when it rolls into boost.

I was making a fraction of the money I do now when I started this project so I definitely wouldve done alot of stuff different but I've got two more projects lined up now that should be pretty slick when finished.

- Engine is a 2004 GTO LS1 and Tremec 6 spd. Gapped rings, studded, heavier valve springs, LS9 head gaskets but otherwise stock.
- Single 72mm Turbocharger
- 60lb Injectors
- 44mm Wastegate
- Vibrant Intercooler
- Plumbing, Exhaust and All Fab done by me
- Quick Performance 9"
- Viking Coilvovers
- Wilwood brakes all the way around w/ electric park brake
- Dakota Digital Cluster
- Tanks Inc Fuel System
- DSE Wiper
- Vintage Air Heater
- Redhead Steering Box
- PSI Harness and Stock ECM

I ended up building two turbo kits, the first one with the cross over pipe up front I ended up scrapping.

Very nice indeed. Big difference in the two piping options (forward facing tubular headers vs the cast manifolds). Did you ultimately pick the manifolds for packaging ease?

What kind of power did it make?

I figured the low end response and driveability would be much nicer on the street with the manifold setup since this was going to be a low boost car for now, also the packaging was alot cleaner and made plumbing the rest a breeze.

500 Wheel hp and 480ish Wheel torque.

That amount of power is a lot of fun on the street. The build looks great. Congrats!

Very nice setup! That will be a good time for sure.

For only 8psi good numbers.... it will be a blast at 15psi :) What fuel?

Everything looks so good. Thanks for the pics.

Had a few hours to finally get a tail pipe knocked out for it, it was just dumped at the axle before and I got tired of it really quick.

Nicely done.

That's my plan too, exiting behind the rear tires instead of going to the rear bumper. Nice work!!
