A little Ferrari fun ... eh?

Hoping everyone is well !
Thought I'd entertain some of you with a little project I am working on while the Killer Piggy 4X4 is slowly being built

With the 911 Hotrod now sold I picked up a VERY clean gated 6 speed Ferrari 360, and of course I can't leave it alone ... :)

How she started ...

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...80161bb4_k.jpgdAGYrj_I by Steve Heck, on Flickr
So what do you get when you mix a guy that has an innate need to make cars better than factory, a new to me MINT manual 2002 360, and watching Video's of a guy out in Britain (360TREV) that has basically redesigned/rebuilt a 360 to its proper form ...

A car that looks a bit better
Sounds incredible
A little faster / a little lighter
And most of all ... simply drives better

I do not consider myself an expert in software or tuning engine management systems whatsoever, but it became very evident in researching TREV and actually speaking with him many times that he definitely is.

What became immediately evident was the fact that after 6 years of development his software was not about adding HP like all the others out there ... it's simply to improve drivability, change the entire torque profile, throttle response and make the car not necessarily faster BUT more fun to drive.

A little fun fact for those not in the know ... Ferrari intentionally underpowered the initial throttle response / torque of the 360 to ensure proper tire engagement off the line and thereby not put the car sideways with the crappy tires we had in the very early 2000's

With 360TREV's tune this all changes ... from TREV himself

"They combine to make the experience of driving your car absolutely transformed, completely re-imaged. The focus has therefore been very much on playful character and perfect balance, banishing all numbness and delay, optimizing feel and response, giving you absolute control. You’ll instantly notice within seconds of getting behind the wheel how much it has been transformed."

So I started searching where can I get this tune for my 360, and after finding out that it was even difficult to get the tune in the US the answer became simple.

Bring it to Canada as nobody had yet done this.

I am super excited to have championed a relationship between 360TREV and the awesome guys at PFAFF Tuning here in toronto.
More details to come, but my car will be put to the test over the next couple of months prior to releasing the software to the public.

So, some details for the build, quite simply get the ECU upgrade and make the car lighter, sound better, drive way better and look better

Car as she sits today with the new CS wheels and yellow painted calipers

Lighter - mission drop 175Lbs off the car ... How
Complete new exhaust system
Remove seats and replace with custom one's
Replace battery with the Antigravity
I believe this alone will get me the 175 I am after

Exhaust ... pics and details to follow. Fabspeed FINALLY landed and off for ceramic coating
Fabspeed headers, TUBI race cats, custom titanium exhaust with remote Forza valved system
Gruppe M intake
air injection removed

Engine
injectors pulled & fully serviced
360Trev tune
New O2 sensors
New BOSCH ignition coils

Seats ...
Grabbed a pair of Braum Falcon-S 23.7 Lbs each
https://braumracing.com/products/fal...clinable-seats

Seats will be redone in black leather from Hydes, designed as a modern take on the Daytona seats, and will have the white stitching done to match the dash/steering wheel

Exhaust ....
Hands down, the very best exhaust guy in TO is Matt @ GT Customs (soon to be renamed)
This is going to take about 6-8 days to hand-build this custom one-off system.
Focus is F1 loud as sh%! when open, and simply sound amazing with no drone through the mufflers

Fabspeed headers, ceramic coated with blankets
TUBI 200CEL race cats, ceramic coated
Hand built full titanium rear exhaust system with Forza controllers thanks to NGS

Not sure if everyone is up to speed on their TIG welding titanium knowledge, but if not here is what you need to know
It's difficult !! LOL
Both the outside and the inside of the weld must be purged with gas to do it properly

Here is an example of one of the very best around, Matt from (now) Absolute Motorsports working on the exit pipes (if you may recall, Matt did my 69' Camaro back in 2019)

See the capped end filling the pipe with gas

Jeff-

Beautiful car and work!

My retirement car was supposed to be a red F430, but my better half insisted I do something with the Camaro that's been sitting for a few decades first.

Sheck44 03-15-2023 05:34 AM

LOL ... Jeff, going to leave it 'somewhat' stock in that sense
These are starting to become valuable being a 6 speed

Srode1 ... been there and completely understand !
Thus the reason you need the fun car and the 'project' car, took me 20 years to pull it off but I'm finally there

Cheers
Steve

Panteracer 03-15-2023 11:47 AM

A little Ferrari fun

I have the Pantera because most modify it and
it still has value... I was thinking of going to the next
Level on that car but decided to leave it alone as I
can drive it anywhere and even being Italian it is the most
reliable one I have.

I could never have an all matching numbers, totally stock
car as I always have to mess with something. It has been
interesting how a lot of the restomods are becoming more
valuable than a Stock Ncrs 100 point type car

My point is if you don't drive it and enjoy it why have it
I do understand a lot of people not wanting to race a car
but to some point if you put all the handling, engines, etc
to drive to the store why do it.

Have fun

Bob

I need to take notes from you on pulling it off - my fun car is a 69 Camaro Pace Car, not as fun as yours but it's going to have to work till I can get the project car on the road. :)

Been waiting for this one to appear lol. the mods look killer already Steve. ps
yes welding titanium properly is quite tricky . It needs TONS of gas flow of and back purging ,also you need to be careful as titanium can and will become brittle ...its temp sensitive

My son would agree. He gets lots of practice since they don't make 4" mandrel bends of the proper radius - lots of pie cuts and each weld is one foot in length.

You have a great project going!

Thanks Mfain !! Looks great

Ryan, thanks brother ...
So before attempting this titanium build I kept hearing 'oh no don't do titanium it's going to crack !!

YES... it will IF (Ryan I think you'll agree with these)
You use thin walled titanium (we used Titon, one of, if not the best)
It's not welded properly ... Matt is one of the best around
The exhaust is not supported properly ... LOT of consideration went into this, with custom water-jet cut support brackets

We should be good !!

It took me the last 7 years to build and sell the below 4 ground-up custom cars to generate the $$ to buy the Ferarri and continue with the newest build, Killer Piggy

The 77 Porsche I didn't do myself with my team here, it was done in LA
I have been fortunate enough to design, build and sell and make a little dough $$ along the way

Sonny didn’t carry a proper fire suppression system on-board the aptly named McBurnie/Ferrari Daytona Spyder.

I’m guessing you will…

Very nice, Steve! I kept seeing the different Ferrari wheels popping up on BaT and thinking of this car wondering if you would make changes. Love what you're doing so far. Like I said when I was there last, the 360 and 430's are some of my favorite Ferraris. Glad to see you're giving this one some love. Enjoy the build!

Sideways X-pipe

1 Attachment(s)
Titanium is WAY sexier than SS but glad to see others doing "sideways" X-pipes on their cars! Can't wait to see and hear the finished result!

But now I'm looking at Granatelli exhaust cutouts for my car... I blame you! Haha

Do your valves bypass the mufflers and the X-pipe or just the mufflers?

Sheck44 03-28-2023 05:42 AM

LOL ... thanks Ty, I seem to have that affect on people.
There are a LOT of wives out there that disapprove of me as I assist their husbands (friends) in building their car or 'selecting' a new car

Ty, no my valves bypass the buffers when open AFTER the X-pipe ... so headers through race cats to X-pipe and then straight down and through the outside tips

Near done, will be listening to the glorious music this aft ... stay tuned
