My new '69 Camaro

If you call Jackass number 11 then my new project is 12. I've been kicking around names but I have not landed on a great one yet. Charlie helped me find this car in CA. It was a very rust free original CA car. It was on Ebay and Charlie drove over to look at it for me and made the deal. (Thanks Charlie).
The car will be very much like Camaro X with a few small changes. LS7 with a new cam (should be around 580 HP) GMPP controller (Stock GM controller) T-56 Camaro Trans DSE Front Clip (So I can use a stock oil pan on the LS7) DSE Rear suspension DSE Mini Tubs Brembo Brakes Fikse Wheels (18 x 10 front and 18 x 13 rear) Toyo Tires (275 front and 335 rear) ABS brakes (This is a science project) Red Paint A combination of Thrasher / Camaro X The car is at Reiter's right now getting the metal work done. Only two small spots of rust. When I tore the car down it was all original but wore out. It is getting harder to find un-restored car. |
Sounds like yet another great build/outline! I can't wait to see the wheel/tire package, I loved the way the CCW's looked on the Mule in those sizes! ABS, very cool! I look forward to the updates!! :thumbsup:

wow what a clean start..what vintage abs stuff are you going with, seems like late 90's buick, olds platform is easy to work with, but will you have a body control module like other late model stuff??-Chris

Mark are you going to use a Race Pac...or go back to analog gauges with this build? I'm interested to know your thoughts after using both.

Update
Just dynoed the LS7 Thur night. All stock with a cam that has tighter lobe seperation angle.
530 ftlbs @ 5000 546 hp @ 5900 Over 530 hp from 5300 - 6800 rpm. Over 500 ftlb from 3800 - 5700 rpm I want more torque and still a smooth idle. It idles rock solid at 650 rpm. This was all with the stock exh manifolds and cal. I'm building the induction an headers at Christmas. Once we get those parts and a cal we should be up to 570ish hp. We will go back on the engine dyno to sort it out. We just ran it Thur to break it in and make sure it was OK. Mark :thumbsup: |

The cam is a stock LS7 lobe wth a 115 degree lobe angle instade of 121. Seems like it will work great. And it is a validated lobe that will work stock valve springs.

I used the LS7 over the LS9 to save $10K and 120 lbs. If I would do a blown LS engine for myself I would think about an LSA when they become cheaper next year. Not as cool as an LS9 but a great value.
I would think about a '67/8 sometime to do again but I like the '69 better. My goal is to finish Charlie's car first then get mine done this summer. Mark |
Very nice! It seems like you had the project completely thought/planned out before you jumped in. That in itself is something many of us struggle with. Well, I know I like to change my mind too much!

Mark let me say I'm a huge fan of your cars before the Mule, I remember spotting Charlie in the Witch driving down the road on P/T '00 if memory serves me(only been on 99,00,01,03,04,05,06,07,08 so far) and I love seeing these up close at the venues- I never get enough. My question is will you ever quit? :lol: not that I want you to but man! thats alot of car building! :bow: Its hard for some of us to get 1 done - keep up the EXCELLENT work and please keep us posted

I remember driving through a small town one day and seeing Red Witch going the opposite direction. I flipped a u turn as soon as I could and went searching. Finally saw it parked at a bank if I remember correctly. I'm absolutely not the "walk up and pretend you should care how much I like your car" type, so I simply parked and admired the car for a few moments, and got back on the road (I was on the job..).
Then years later, I'm talking cars with a guy that works for me, and he starts talking about this guy who has a bunch of Camaros with huge brakes, big tires all around, and so on. I ask if his name is Charlie, and bingo, wadda ya know, it's a heck of a small world. (Charlie, it's a big tall kid who drives a F250 and works for a forklift company. Don't know if you actually know him, he seems to know you through a buddy of his) Never met either Charlie or Mark in person, but I certainly seem to share your taste in car build styles. Couldn't care less about car shows, I want something I can drive! |
