What spare wheels will work as rollers for C5 brakes?
Pretty soon I am going to dump my car in the body shop, since I found out body work IS as hard as it looks. I'd like to take my wheels of so they don't get ruined, but am wondering what cheap/spare wheels will work withe C5 front brakes and LS1 rears?

I would look for those throw away spares with the 16 or 17" rim. They were used on a lot more cars then just 4th gen f-bodies and corvettes and should be easy to find.

Or you can grab up a front drag skinny wheel, like a Weld 16 X 4, You will have a real size tire and it will look nice in the trunk.

I need 4 of them and don't want to spend a lot of money.

I'd check the salvage yards for late model vette spares. They can't cost that much..

your othere option is to remove the rotors and just put on a few rim spacers. That is what weve been doing with my truck.
No reason to leave the good stuff on so the body shop can mess it up |
I was actually thinking the same thing but for different reasons. I want to be able to get my C5 front/late camaro rear brakes completely installed, but there is no way they will fit behind the 14 inch SS wheels I have on now. The reason i need temporary rollers is because i have not yet decided on wheels. Is it safe to say that only the C5 spare will fit ovet the front C5 brakes?

C5 Corvette Spare
C5/C6 Corvette does not have a spare tire, it uses run flat tires. 1988-96 Corvette spares work, but plan on paying $50 each.

C5's dont' come with spares, do C4's?

I just found some cheap wagon wheels and tires. If you buy them all seperately you can get them for less than 200 a set and they are easy to resell. For tires I was able to get some junkers from a dealership but also if needed and you plan n running an 18" wheel you could get the right size tire now and then just swap tires when you get the wheels you want.

My truck with C6 suspension all the way around has 16x8 with 4 inches of backspacing and with no brakes rolls around fine. You only need the bigger diameter to clear the calipers and rotor and you need the offset to get it away from the spindle. With the smaller rim and tire combo it lowered the truck considerably, so I had to cut bars to raise the truck up to have ground clearence.
You obviously have to remove the brakes to do this. Rodger |
