Project Dorothy
At long last I finally have interesting things to post about my active project.
Some of you may recall that I posted a trial baloon rendering by Kris Horton of my project for feedback. Based on the feedback, Kris made some really nice changes and we have finally finished the exterior design. Meanwhile, the fabrication has been underway for about a month. Below are the semi-final renderings. I am expecting to get the final hi-res pictures this evening. Also, I now have a web site up which will document this project. You can check it out at http://www.CamaroSuperCars.com In short summary: Built .060 over 396 FAST XFI Comp roller cam AFR 315 CNC port heads F1-R Pro-Charger T56 Quadralink 9", 3.70, Truetrac Gobal west upper and lower control arms Coil overs all around DSE mini tubs 18X12 Forgeline SP3Ps with Gunmetal centers - rear 18x8.5 Forgeline SP3Ps - front Wilwood 13 inch, 6 piston, C5 brakes in front Wilwood 12 inch, 4 piston brakes with integrated e-brake in rear DSE Quick Ratio 600 steering gear See the web site for the entire tech sheet and tons of pictures... http://www.camarosupercars.com/Photo...Camaro%204.jpg http://www.camarosupercars.com/Photo...Camaro%205.jpg http://www.camarosupercars.com/Photo...undExhaust.jpg I am pretty excited about this project... |

What is your schedule? |
Looks good :) . My only thing is the hockey stripe, I love the big swoop , but I am not keen on the "check" near the headlights. I am sure it will look good either way, just wanted to throw out my $.02. Can't wait to see it finished  .

I thought I would update this with the actual status of the build.
At this point the car has been completely dismantled. The subframe was removed, media blasted, smoothed, ground, holes welded up and powder coated. You can see the pictures of it in here. Note that there was NO bondo used on this subframe. A filling was done with a tig welder and then it was smoothed with a grinder. The Chilcotes did a bautiful job prepping this for powder coat. The engine and T56 transmission were mocked up in the car with big block motor mounts and the ATS transmission crossmember. Everything bolted up perfectly but the tunnel did have to be modified to preserve the proper transmission geometry relative to the rear end. The DSE mini tubs have now been installed. Tom Chilcote did a really clean job of this and even managed to add an extra 1/2" of width on each side in the process. The DSE Quadralink pockets, cross member and Panhard bar bracket have been installed. The trunk pan needed to be replaced and this is also done at this point. Here is a picture of the subframe after it came back from powder coating... http://www.camarosupercars.com/Photo...powdercoat.jpg and one more.. http://www.camarosupercars.com/Photo...me_powder2.jpg |
Tracy, I love the stripe!!! It gives the car a nice modern and agressive look. I would have though of blacking out the rear panel to match, but I'm not gonna force you to do it. I just think it would look classic and strong. It's looking good so far. Can't wait to see it together.

Tracy, your project looks amazing. :wow: Love the color combo and stripe, and your wheel choice. Please keep us posted.

I actually agree with Allen. Looking back on it, the tail panel would probably look better in black. Hindsight really is 20/20, but in this case it can still be changed. I avoided doing it back when were were messing with the 2-tone idea and never thought to go back to it. If you want, I'll gladly do one or two shots with the tail panel in black.
I like the new stripe a lot better too, I think it suits the car much better than our original idea. The car should look great once it's finished! Kris |
Wonder if the tail in gloss black would look good, with a matching pinstripe at the top going across to keep the theme with the stripe
|
Yeah, I think the basic flat black would work well. One question though.... You gonna have to pop the trunk to put gas in every time?
|
That stripe....
could very well be replicated on the nose of your Chrager....It seems to have the same side view agle....
Hey, Tracy, i read you are planning on using C6 Z06 brakes....So am i. And i'm waiting on info's from Frank at GPS for a pricing and clearance issue specifications with the brakes on a set of Forgelines ZX3's. Do you have your brakes and wheels yet? Any idea on clearance / need of shim to clear the calipers or anything? Car is gonna look great! Hey, tell us a bit 'bout that SRT8!!! I have one of my furnishers who has just bought a Magnum SRT8 and i told him i need a ride next time he comes by if he wants a future order!!!! Lead. |

Funny you should mention the stripe on the Charger. I have also thought about this before. Perhaps this is why I like the strip on the camaro since it reminds me of the charger. It would work. As for the brakes and wheels..I have the brakes already...they are wilwood 6 piston brakes for C5/C6 to go with my AFX Spindles. Frank ordered my wheels about 2 weeks ago. Forgeline insisted on having him double checking the offsets against the specs. I have attached the spec sheet on the brakes if you care to look. I am confident that everything will fit. As for my SRT8...I absolutely love this car. I just cannot believe that you can get this kind of performance from a 4000 LB car that cost under $45K. The car is extremely well balanced and stable. It pulls like crazy from a stand still and from 80 MPH. It is also very comfortable despite the somewhat tight suspension. SRT did a great job on this car. I can only imagine what it would be like with a supercharger. If you get the chance to drive one of these cars you really should! |
Rendering updates with black tail pan!
Well, Kris came through with the blacked out tail pan...and I really like it.. Kris does awesome work!! :hail: Check it out and tell me what you think..

Definately keep the black tail panel. It looks Hot .
|
Told ya so.... :D
I think it looks great!!! Now to see it get done. |

Black it is!
Definetely like it!
It gives it an all other Business look! Much more serious. I didn't see any attachements for the brakes tough? Forgeline says they don't think they will be able to clear the front calipers. (i have the wheel info sheet printed out and the Core3 measures for the calipers on my desk right now...Just need to measure up!) I'm just taking in some comments on the C6 set up in its entire configuration vs others (Hey Fatlife!) and am looking to do this project after Christmas...when i get the wheels. You are running C6 but wilwood calipers??? What made you decide against the Vette parts? And why, then, are they called C6? Just because they are Vette part #'s? Oh yeah, did i mention i love the blacked out rear on your car!!? Lead. |

Here is a link to the manual from Wilwood. It contains the offsets and measurements. Wilwood big brake kit for C5 manual Thanks for the input on the tail pan! -Tracy |
The Black Tail compliments the side Hockey Stripes and is consistant with the black grill in front.
All I can say is, "Well Done!". It now looks Balanced. tyoneal |

There were no clearance issues with the Wilwood set up for Tracy's Forgelines. The C6 calipers seem to always cause trouble, however, we have a few ZO6s running Forgelines, so it can be done. But the ZO6 runs a much different backspacing arrangement

New Progress!!
Things are moving ahead so I thought I would toss out a few new pictures.

  :hail:
Hey great work Tracy! Coming along nicely. Keep it up! Can you tell me how much the lower bars (that tie into the original spring pockets) go out the side of the frame? I'm interested in finding the most available width clearance in the tubs from fender lip (inside of it) at front of quarter panel wheel opening to what ever will hit first (probably that bar....) to estimate my leftover space if i ever take the decision on the Q-Link. You like it? Lead. |

I will double check this tomorrow and give a more definittive answer. -Tracy |
