0-100-0
I think Scott made a post awhile back about the current record for a street car to do 0-100-0. If I remember right, it was an Ultima GTR's, and the time was right around 10 seconds flat.
Reason I ask, is I was just reading a magazine about a Cuda being build to try to break this record. Car has a 800+hp Indy Hemi, and is being build by Johnshons Rod Shop. Good luck to those guys, but that mid engine, lightweight Ultima is going to be hard to beat. |
Car
It would be cool to watch the Cuda try and do that but unless it's EXTREMELY modified, it don't stand a chance.

Here's the article, Mark:
The Ultima Factory yesterday smashed the production car world record in an Ultima GTR for sprinting to 100mph and back to zero again beating times set by all manner of supercars. Driven by Ultima Director, Richard Marlow, the factory built Ultima GTR set a new world record time of 10.3 seconds to achieve 0-100mph-0 smashing the previous record by half a second. The British built super car stormed from 0-60mph in 2.8 secs and reached 100mph from standstill in an incredible 5.9 secs before coming back to rest a mere 4.4 secs later. All of the times were set by a standard, factory built, fully road legal, road tyred Ultima GTR built using all of the high spec factory specified and proven parts. The car was even equipped with a few luxuries such as air conditioning but no traction control devices; launch control systems or ABS braking aids were used. The car was fitted with its recommended Porsche G50 5 speed transaxle and normally aspirated 640BHP 377ci Chevrolet V8 engine which is a standard offering by the factory from its official engine suppliers American Speed. Ultima are particularly proud that their record time beat the legendary £630,000 McLaren F1 road car by well over a full second at less than one tenth of the cost! Richard Marlow, Director of Ultima Sports Ltd said “The 0-100mph-0 test is believed by many to be the ultimate test for any car and is a true indicator of a cars all round performance ability. We haven’t strapped any timing gear onto one of our cars for a few years now and decided that the time was right to demonstrate to everybody how we have been successfully developing our product over the years and gained a world record in the process." Bouyed by his success, Richard continued, "We also wanted to go on to measure the 0-200mph-0 time at the relatively short Bruntingthorpe runway on the same day however severe rain and thunderstorms curtailed this for now but it didn’t stop Ted from achieving a rather interesting 192mph pass in the wet on standing water with over 1500rpm still available!” The test was conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology and the latest state of the art GPS timing gear was utilised to achieve and ensure maximum accuracy. A submission has been made to Guinness Book of Records. Videos of the record breaking run can be downloaded from PistonHeads.TV: Video 1 Video 2 Video 3 |
Thanks for posting that, I was hoping you would.
Those are awesome numbers. Looking forward to see how close that Cuda gets. |

Yeah. It looks sick. And Alan Johnson is by far my favorite rod builder.
Looks like the chassis is stretched to place engine entirely behind front axle centerline (a la McLaren-Mercedes). Also has a getrag transaxle so weight distribution has obviously been considered. Should be fun. |
Bob Johnson, the owner of the Cuda that Alan is building told me the magazine made up the trash talking.

I was just reading the latest Summit book, it states that AWD 600hp '32 Roadster (I forgot the name) "only" did 0-60 in 3.2 seconds, and it was the quickest car Car and Driver ever tested. So that Ultima is really cooking at 2.8, . |
It would be interesting to see how Lingenfelter's twin turbo corvette would do in this test. If i remember correctly it acheived 60mph in 1.97 seconds, and was eventually tuned to do the 1/4 in 8.9 seconds. This is all street legal too. I have video if someone wants to host them i can send them.
Anthony (new member, found you guys through Chevelle forums, and love the cars i see so far) |
Welcome, Anthony, glad you like what you've seen so far. :)
I'll host the video if you can get it to me. |
Did the Lingenfelter vette do those times on street tires?
|
Hi All,
Found this forum and thought I would chime in... There are lots of "street-legal" drag cars that can meet, or beat, the new record (which is now 9.8 seconds 0-100-0 and 2.7 seconds 0-60). The GTR did this with approximately 685 n/a fwhp on DOT tires. The record is for a "factory" car...one that you can write a check for and it shows up at your house. There may be dozens of speed shops that can mod an F-body or Mustang to beat this record. The new, 700 hp Saleen S7 Turbo quotes a 2.8 second 0-60, but that car is $555,000!!! No numbers listed for 0-100-0. BTW, a 685 fwhp Ultima can be had for around $85k, depending on options. |

I know what you mean about the "factory" issue. But, that the rule. If you can't purchase it directly from the factory and run it, it doesn't qualify for the "factory" 0-100-0. Now, take that Cuda to the Silver State Classic and enter it into their Z-2-Z race (0-200-0) and you may set a record. |

There was a guy out of Salt Lake that put a TT in his Ultima and made 1300 hp. He took that car to 229 mph and backed off. He was in 5th with a 6-speed transaxle! That, too, was at the Silver State open road race. Then, he sold it. |

So if I ordered up a foose Camaro that would be a factory car? Rules make me --> :willy: And I will take the 1/16th please.. or a 32/33nd version to save weight :) |

Steve, I didn't make the rules. Rules make me barf. They are meant to be fractured. My car doesn't qualify because I am building it. Mine will be lighter than the "factory" car and have more hp after adding the Procharger (later). You can look up "factory" at www.m-w.com, if you don't know what it means. Better yet, contact the people at Guinness Book of Records. That's the definition being used. Or, you could just click on this video of the 9.8 second record-setting run, or the pictures at the bottom of the page, and simply enjoy it... http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/newrecord.html I almost forgot... Print that side view picture out so that the body is 9.75" long and there's your 1/16th scale. That will be $5,312.50 please. Hope you like red! :D |

It's just too bad that it's not a more open test. I mean, for a car to shine (any car), it's got to have a venue to show off a little. That Cuda can't compete. My car can't compete...and it's an Ultima!!! There are a bunch of faster (in a straight line) street-legal cars out there. I guess they have to put some sort of limits on the type of competition, but, what happens when the "Blue Devil" hits the streets? It's a lot easier for Ultima, than Chevy, to tell it's "factory" engine builder (American Speed) to produce a twin-turbo SBC that will hold off all comers for a long time. Does that mean it's a "factory" car? I guess so, by definition. So, it will hold the record again. My guess is the parameters could be opened up a little and the Ultima would still hold it's own. In the GTR, the 100-0 part only takes 4 seconds. My personal opinion...lap times on a road-course, by the same unbiased driver, is the only real test. |
builder , where can you do that at . would like to see how my camaro would do .
thanks rick kirkindall  |

Just a quick follow up. When they told me about this 0-200-0 "race", I contacted some folks that have Ultima GTRs that are known to reach 200 mph. The question I had was what distance did they cover to get up to 200. The answer was well in excess of a mile...probably 1.5 to 1.6 to get up there. And, that was at sea level. The Silver State race was being held in Ely, Nevada, which is over 7,500' above sea level (density altitude = 6,500' + adjustment for temp and humidity). I figured that none of the cars that were listed to compete would do it in a mile. None did. I think the closest anyone got was 182. |

Just started ordering drive train parts for My Ultima GTR build. Got to finish the camaro first but the GTR will be yellow with a G50/52 Proshe trans and a SCB from Amerspeed or the 454 Motown. Should be nice. Its a 3-4 month wait to get the car from the UK.

3 to 4 months? They must mail it to you. lol
That will be a bad ass car when you get it done. |
Just heard the latest on the Cuda that started this thread and they're working day and night to debut it at the Primedia booth in SEMA on tuesday at 2 pm. Big unveiling and marching band and everything. ok, maybe not a marching band but I hear they're taking it to the Z2Z.
Builder's right, 200 in the first mile looks like a tall order after reading Road&Track's recent flat out for a mile article. It looks like it takes serious hp to hit 200 in a mile if racecars and tweaked 911s are missing it by a good margin. |
I was reading a few mags earlier today on Big Red and the Hemi for the Cuda. Both engine have about the same hp, around 875, but the Hemi has about 130 more ft/lb of torque. At a much lower rpm too.
