Wax Billet Wheels
I've run billet wheels for alongtime, and am tried of cleaning and polsihing them.
Does anybody wax them to help seal them so brake dust and **** doesn't stain them. |
Zoops makes something, but I wasn't very impressed

The Zoop Seal stuff would be nie onto impossible to do correctly on a rim...
I usually polish the rims on my truck twice a season. I use Mothers Billet Polish. This is different from their MAG wheel polish... The Billet Polish comes in a small glass jar and it ain't cheap. It works incredibly well though and IS worth the money. After polishing I will hit the rims with a coat of my detailing wax. I use Formula 113. It is formulated for the detailing community, goes on with a damp sponge after washing and leaves the paint surface slick and water repellant. NOTHING sticks to it and it works very well for sealing up my wheels. Mark |
I had my last two sets of polished billet wheels ceramic coated in clear. Not a powdercoat or clear paint, the stuff is very tough and you can't tell it's on there. The wheel cleans up like a chrome wheel from then on, just soapy water and a sponge, no more polishing while staying new looking forever.
Budnik offer the service on their wheels for $300/set, and the company that does it is in southern California. Jody |

Where do you come up with all the coolest stuff ? I wish I had known that before I had the tires mounted on the Budniks. I put ZoopSeal on them, but it is pretty obnoxious to work with. |
Does this go for centers that are "brushed"? I'm buying some wheels from budnik with polished hoops and brushed centers. Would ceramic coating work here?

Prob with the powdercoating is that some powders don't like direct sunlight very good. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can break it down. Usually the tougher it is, the worst it is in the sun for some reason. Also if it does start to chip, theres nothing you can do about it short of sandblasting the wheels. Having that said I'm curious about it and it does sound like it would make life much easier. I'd definetly consider it

How will the ceramic coating hold up to scrubbing, say with a deck brush when your cleaning them trying to get them major crap off of them? Will they hold up or will the coating scratch? :)
|
as far as I know ceramic coating is what people put on headers and high temp components. It is a coating and I don't believe is transparent like a clear coat. How are you putting this on your wheels??? I must be missing something as I'm sure you know what you are talking about
