NHRA Schumacher pulls it off!!
1 Attachment(s)
Do we have any drag racing fans here?? Alan Johnson is the man. When you think about how impossible his challenge was, its incredible that he won the race AND ran a 4.42 to set the new national record to clinch the championship. Unbelievable. What do you think about the new points race next year?
|
4.42! :wow: Incredible.

Damn good looking car. I think we used the same painter. I have heard about this car, but have yet to see it in person.
|
I remember the big deal when they broke into the 4's. My how time flys.
|
That was a fairy tale ending... Johnson is THE man.... to come back from 336 points behind mid season... and to do it in a last effort run with a record setting run deciding the outcome ! A true on edge points chase.
I was cheering for Dougy. I like to cheer on the "underdog". |
Johnson is the king of T/F crew chiefs, though he has some good competition from Tobler, Beard, & Richards. That final round will be one that stands out for a long time to come. Sorry to see Doug lose it though. The expression on his face was of disappointment but you know inside he felt like he was just kicked in the chest. I don't think the new points system will be all their hoping for, i mean how much more exciting can it be compared to the what we experienced this year in PSB, Funny Car and T/F. I think the competition is so close in all the catagories that I dont think we will see any runaway points leaders anymore.
BTW: I have plenty of love for 2nd gen camaros as I have a very nice 12 bolt from one waiting for me to buy the damn car. Just like me to be putting the cart before the horse  BB |
Probably the most incredible comback and dissapointment in NHRA history. They threaten to set the record in Vegas, but did not get conditions. Alan is so fricken smart it is scary! I really wanted Doug to win, but he left it out there for the taking!
|
i wanted connie to win , but i dont like doug , he looks like serial killer .
|
Yeah, I guess I really wanted Connie to win also. I would be really happy if Grubbie did it for them. What a likeable guy, and thankfull to.
|
I don't understand why Tony did not get any point deduction for that oil down in qualifying. Rick Stewart signaled him to shut it off, he staged anyway and oiled the track. WTF? He got fined the 20grand but no point deduction.Another NHRA mystery I just don't get.

re
I thought the whole year was one of the best seasons to follow,
All the classes had action and wars to follow. I couldn't have scripted a better finish. |
Big Money
I still think the big money teams will emerge to the surface in the end next year, even with the new point system. They say that it will level the playing field, but it will all come down to the teams that are the most consistent, and thats when the big money teams with multiple cars stand out from the rest of the pack.

Anytime you have 3 of the 4 pro classes decided at the last race, it's a good season. From Hines redlighting in Pro Bike wating for Antron, to Force and Hight running the fastest side by side Funny ever, to Schumacher/Johnson winning it by the longest odds possible by setting a new record - pretty unbelievable. Just awesome for us, the spectators. I felt real bad for Doug though, Capps too. It has got to suck being runner up 3 times each. Remember the old phrase - there are winners and then there's everybody else. They don't care if it was 2nd or 10th, they didn't win.

That car.....
.... is too freakin' sweet. I just saw it in a readers ride page in one of my monthly publications. Very nice!
