Lateral-g Project S-Curve renderings
This is our link to the Lateral-g Project car S-curve The rendering are in but I want every one to look at them for a few days before we vote, Lets get some input before the voting starts https://lateral-g.net/s-curve And lets give Ben Hermance, Jason Rushforth & Brian Stupski a great big thanks for the work they have done on the project :hail:
|
I like the prensentation Ben makes, but I like the car Jason draws a lot more. I think Jasons car theme is great, but looks a bit 66 Riviera ish in the rear quarters. But still the theme is a clear winner for me.
|
All three of them are bad axs. I like Ben's the best even though I would need to see the color in person before being sure on it. I also like the exhaust and air intake ideas. I like Brians turn signals in the head light, but am torn on the shape of the air intake. should it match all the square shapes on the front such as the grill and slots in bumper, or round matching the head lights like in Brian and Jason's drawings. Acually the round holes on Jasons drawing look like they are most likely for fog/driving lights. Jason has a lot of tallent and I like his drawing, but I do not like the 2 tone with the strait line between the 2 colors.

I'll embed them in this thread.

Iīll vote for Benīs drawing, love the exhausts!

Good stuff guys! They all have some cool stuff happening. I always lean towards clean myself which leads me towards Ben and Brian's layouts. The black and gold I think could work but I'm personally not a fan of the big square ram air intakes although functional and cool in their own right. I like the smoothed off emblems and I really got a kick out of Ben's idea for the exhaust coming out of the lower tail light! Those are the kind of little details I really like to see myself. Overall I think I would have to lean towards Ben's design because it's super clean, the stripe is something different on an olds, and it's just clean with a couple nice details designed in.
I vote for Ben's design. J |
I like Ben's rendering my self.
|
Thanks for the complements, feedback and input, everybody.
I would normally do a flat hood like Ben and Brian but Jeff wanted the Ram Air unit but Brian's hood with the chrome grilles looks so much better and I love Ben's exhaust, that's brilliant! My influence for the gold split on the lower horizontal bodyline was of course, the Hurst Oldsmobiles but I took some liberties with stylizing it and making th top black instead of white to make it pop. Ben and Brian, Great job and this was a fun project for a good cause. John, Wish you had time to throw out a design for this project. |
They`re all really cool and I`m normally a sucker for a W-30 hood but Ben`s gets my vote. I LOVE the exhaust (that`s nicer than the `70 GS N-25 thru bumper exhaust!). The exact color will make it or break it though. Mark SC&C

First, I want to say thanks to everyone's feedback and continued participation as this project is really starting to get off the ground and pick up speed. Whichever styling concept gets chosen, I have every bit of confidence that Jeff will be able to execute it and that we will all be floored by the final result.
As for what everyone is looking at here, Jason, Brian and I discussed early on that we needed be sure to show a good range of concepts. There is very little overlap in the 3 that are shown. Having one strong "heritage based" concept was a great idea, but the others needed to be a fresh look and hopefully you all agree that we achieved that. What I tried to do with mine was clean up the details while retaining the classic Olds look. The '70 rectangular blinkers match the rectangles in the grill, light surrounds and bumper but I wanted to add some G-machine functionality to them a-la air intakes/brake cooling. As for the taillights, the busy looking 72 inserts had to go. I added the silver stripe to continue the thick notch created by the front bumper and also to visually minimize rear quarter S-body bulge. It always looked awkward to me. The last little detail I smoothed was to remove the trim around the side marker lights. I chose slate blue because, #1 you don't see it very often, #2 Olds always had a more refined/classic look than other musclecars, (I tried about 50 combos) #3 I saw a Toyota Avalon with a shade that I absolutely love, #4 I want it to stand out among g-machines. Anyway, thanks again everyone for getting involved. It was fun to work on this and I was not surprised at all by the premium quality of work by Jason and Brian. I really had to be on my toes for this one! Maybe John will have some time on the next project...hint hint. I would have loved to see what he had up his sleeve given more time. |
Just wanted to say thanks to Jason and Ben for the great work they provided once again... Both concepts are strong, and offer a lot of great ideas for the project!
As Ben pointed out, the three of us wanted to present ideas that were "all over the board", yet keep the same general concept in mind, so as to offer a number of ideas that could be applied between any of the designs, and I think we've accomplished that. Ben's offering has a really clean look, and gives some serious subtlety as icing on the cake. The car has a true "coachbuilt" feel, and oozes quality throughout. The cool, soft color is a great choice for the Cutlass' lines, and that stripe plays up the sporty nature of the build. The unique exhaust exits are so slick, and with them up as high as they are, they almost make the rear of the car appear streamlined, and attract attention to the huge meats... Well done! Jason's design pays homage to the legacy of Olds muscle, and his use of the classic black and gold paint scheme was a great idea! The color-keyed wheels and that oh-so-right stance balance the car somewhere between corner-carving and light-to-light street terror. The W-30 hood always looks great, and, in my opinion, really does wonders for the car. On my design, I opted to keep things fairly simple, aiming to make the most bang for as little cash, visually (saving money for the drivetrain and suspension). Having a thing for green cars (and green Olds' in particular), I went with the two-tone green sage paint, broken up with a simple graphic that invokes the '70-'72 muscle car era graphics (Judge, et.al.), deliberately keeping it simple enough to be painted at home. The stock hood has always been a favorite of mine with those inserts, so I left well enough alone, and took some time to remove the front markers (integrating them into the headlamps with a street rod industry product combo lamp), and utilizing the opening left behind as a brake cooling duct, to squeeze as much braking performance as possible. I wish, as well, that John would've had time on this one... and working with two guys as talented and friendly as Ben and Jason made for a great experience. Thanks again Scott and Jeff, can't wait to see this thing come together! |
all the renderings are killer imo talented guys we have
17 inch is too small imo big quarters need atleast 18-20-22" those Lateral Budnik will look sweet in those diameters just my 5 cents |
My vote is for Bens but with the addition of that bad azz W-30 hood that Jason had in his design.

I just thought of something now that I'm looking at the renderings together. Though we do have a range of "design" ideas regarding color break, trim, hoods, wheels etc. maybe color is secondary in selection. Afterall, there's only 3 color sets up there for everyone to select from. This is entirely up to Jason and Brian but maybe the actual colors can be adjusted after the winning design is chosen. Color is so subjective and vital to a great design.
For example: Say most people like Jason's overall design, but don't vote for him because of the actual colors he's showing. His intended color break may look best as bright red with a silver bottom, who knows. The other side of the arguement is, we made the decision as designers that our best bet was with the colors we showed on the rendering. Live by the color, die by the color.... I guess what I am trying to say is I want to keep everyone involved with this project, and if we're showing only 3 color combos that don't really energize people maybe we should keep color selection open for now. I dunno, what do you guys think? Hopefully I explained that well enough without sounding like an idiot. :D |
All of the renderings come from some extremely talented people we have been blessed with hanging out here on this board. I think taking some of the design elements from each design will honor each of the efforts displayed here would be cool. The exaust in the rear taillight is extremely cool, Hood design on one is awesome and a paint scheme from another is cool. Its a perfect collaberation of the talented individuals represented here.

Wow.....what talent.....
Amazing howw good these cars look shaved of badges, handles, key holes, windshield wipers etc.... Love the 1st drawing with the hood in the 3rd..... |
i thought this was going to be a low buck build? have you priced a quality ram air repop hood lately? :faint:

well a ram air hood that will fit worth a damn is 1300+ just for the record.
|
I like the black & gold, but I'm more into the muscle-look than the more elegant styling of the other 2. The black and gold screams "badass" while the others look more like luxury cars... not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just my personal taste. All 3 are very cool, and many styling cues can be taken from each of them.
|
re
I would hope at some point in time all 3 would see the light of day.
The Black and Gold just jumps at me for personal reasons though. |
All are nice but the difference is Ben's is a design the other 2 are just color options. Color is apersonal choice and most like the intense colors but the slate color could work. Would also love to see Ben's in a brighter color such as huggar orange or??

Thanks for all the comments, and winding the day down I want to give a big thanks to Brian, Ben and Jason the work they have done is second to none every one please keep up the input it helps us all on our final outcome we want this to be a great project for all, I also want to give a big thanks to Scott, without him we would not have this fun place to hang out, The actual voting on the renderings will come in a few days I want everyone to have a chance to look at them and think on it a while before we vote, So thanks again and keep it up.

I like Bens' rendering. That exhaust is sick.

The comment on using 17" rims is correct. You need to do some homework on that. Depending on the tire size you pick and how much you lower the car will help determine wheel size. I have enclosed a pic showing my wheels and tires: They are as follows: 235.45.18 Front Note 1/4 smaller then old style GR1470 275.35.20 Rear Note 1" taller then old style GR1570 No rubbing issues front or rear and without mini tubing. |
im diggin the exaust in the rear bumper idea also. im re doing a 71 442 W-30 myself right now. i went outside to look at my car and i don't see a easy way to do it, but its a awesome idea and i hope you get it to work.

How about 19's?
|

I'm sure they will cost more than 17's, but I'm not sure how much. I haven't researched that. But what I do know - you won't give up any performance going to 19's. The baddest production car this country has ever seen runs 325/30ZR19's. :D
|
I think Jeff mentioned that he already purchased a set of 17" tires for it for a good price. There is a substantial price jump from 17-18 that may not be justifiable since it is purely a cosmetic upgrade as far as I know. Though 18-20's look great on A-bodies, bang for the buck is with 17s IMO.

Who says you can't do both?

I hear ya.
The plan is to have the budget break down on the s-curve webpage, along with pictures, specs, the renderings, etc. |
Thanks guys for emailing me and giving me chances late in the game to join in with a rendering. I'm just trying to keep my head afloat time-wise as is. I woulda loved to have done something for an Olds. I think all three of ya came up with some killer concepts and I will definately follow this project no matter what direction it takes.
|
20s would be cheaper then 19s for the record.

I think this is the color Ben has in mind, I think I need to go to the Toyota dealership and take a better look at it, This is a 06 slade blue avalon.
|
I might be a little bias here but to me it won't scream mean without the W30 hood. Now having one of these hoods mysself i know how much money they cost so i guess i can see why one might not be in your budget. That first rendering is total kick azz! and might only look better with the ram air hood!
