Got My Z-06 Brakes And Ordered My Wheels!!!
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC04787.jpg
Yep!!! Got 'em...Man they are big! (i can't keep my eyes off 'em) I'm now looking for a place to get the rotors Zinc'd so they stay nice. I aslo placed my order with Frank at PRODIGY CUSTOMS yesterday too!!!. You want a great deal...Talk to Frank he'll set you up, Fast. I finally settled on FORGELINE'S 19x8.5" fronts and 20x13" rear ZX3p's in Gunmetal. Delay is 5-6 weeks so i better get 'somtin to do.... http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...1969/zx3pb.jpg Car should be triple black with either a gunmetal or red hockey stripe and cloth (Canvas) top. The car is getting worked on at the shop, the DSE connectors we're finished today, the new aluminum bushings are installed and the work on the tubs is to be done by next week. My plan is to bring the car back home, strip the whole undercarriage/ wire brush clean and then shoot it with some kinda Rhino liner. After that i'll get the housing rebuilt + every bracket and bolts p-coated and put all new brake and fuel lines in. I also got the brakets from KORE3 to mount the brake conversion...They are awesome (talk to Tobin) And i got the braided Flexkore lines while at it. I'll rebuild the front end and frame too. Then, its back down to the ground. Things are moving faster than with the coupe....I'm happy! I might need to go with a new suspension in the rear...(Air Bar or Q-link are my choices...altough leaning on Air) in a few weeks as it seems i still need more space than i've found to clear the 345's....I'm still hitting the front half of the leaf even with the offset shackles installed. Do you think Hypnotizing could releive me from this addiction? (seriously, i tought about it!) Hope you like! Lead. |
SWEET, SWEET, SWEET!!! Make for sure you do the rear suspension swap before you shoot the bottom of the car!! Gonna be bad ass!!!
|
Are you planning on running 14 inch discs and six piston calipers all around?
Looks to be an awesome car, can't wait to see it done. Derek |
I R Jealous!!!
|
Very nice. Are the wheels going to clear the calipers? I know around they should, but I'm talking about the back side of the spokes. I sure hope so. That's gonna look incredible together.
|
Sexy!!!! Can't wait to see the whole Thing!
|
Congrats man, looking real good!
Alex |
Thanks!
Hey Guy's,
Thanks for the props! I am very happy...even if some don't like that set up,it fits what i entend to do with the car and my budget. Awr, no worries. My plan is to take the car back home, strip the underside and take it from there. Thanks! D Rock, I got the comlete Z-06 upgrade which means i got 2-6pistons for the front w/ 14 inch rotors and 2-4 pistons for the rear w/ 13.4" rotors Z, i checked with Forgeline before ordering using the KORE3 Caliper template which is a great tool. They build wheels for Z-06 on a daily basis so the are aware of the caliper's face thickness...Thanks for the worrries. It would have been a sad surprise. Glad you like my new acquisitions! Lead. I should drop by the shop today, i'll get some new pics if i can. |
Nice choices. You will certainly be happy with the Forgelines and the gunmetal in particular. Can't wait to see those 345's under the car.
|
They look really good, love the wheel choice. When you get a chance can you weigh the calipers and rotors and post the results?
|
Now I want to sell my Baers...... :_paranoid
|
WOW! Nice choice! Those brakes are freakin huge :hail: And the wheels look Killer as well. :unibrow:
|
nice choices lead!
|
Sure thing.

All measurements we're taken on a Top of the line wal-smart precision weightin instrument. (I use it to keep my own weight acceptable...) http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC04820.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC04823.jpg The front Rotor and Caliper are at 37 pounds as a team. Rotor only is 28. Rear combo is 30 while rotor only is at 21 The front rotor has some heavy metal in the back IT DOES make a difference Oh, i did it to give all of you an idea of the weight so we have it as a reference for future users. Any negative comments regarding their weight are unnecessary...I knew ahead to purchasing they we're heavy compared to 5k$ kits...I just preferred keeping the weight in my pockets rather than taking it off the brakes. Glad you guy's like 'em. http://s138.photobucket.com/albums/q...&addtype=local For more. I went to the shop on my way back home tonight. The tubs are getting done. Will take pics tomorrow...I had forgotten the camera! Those DSE Frame conn are so clean once installed. Lead Hey Tracy, have you mounted yours???(Wheels) And did you get my message 'bout the Q-Link? |

Here is one for you http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC04764.jpg Kinda looks like yours at some point... ;-) Got any more pics, updates? I really dig your build too. I can't wait to tomorrow. I really want to know where those stupid tires end at the end....Its gonna be so close. There is almost no frame left at the rear portion of it. We welded a 1/4" thick plate (molded to follow the rail) on approximately 1 foot to make up for it. Another reason to be wanting to change the susp set up. Like that the rear rails won't be important anymore. I'm looking back at Arm Morrisson's tri-4 bar set up, its cheap bas a$$, and would give me the most room. I just don't know if its made to fit in my car as it is... http://www.artmorrison.com/rearclips/tri4bar/index.cfm Suspension only, not the clip. Lead. |
sweet set up man! if you dont mind how much did the brake set up set you back? PM if you dont care to post it.....thanks.

If you'll do a search foe Z-06 brakes you should find a thread i started for a group purchase on that kit. Its the Corvette brake upgrade kit to Z-06. I finally got it all from Fred Beans parts division ( www.fbparts.com ) who's a GM car (and many other makes) dealership and the price was below the GP that another was offering. The final price was 1495$ + 65$ shipping. yes, you read that right. Included; 4 calipers, 4 rotors and all 20 pads and hardware. All GM, From a GM dealer, and bran new. Any other questions, just shoot. Rwhite, :-) It felt like that too! :D I just can't wait to get the wheels. Lead. |

Looking good, glad to see someone else feels the way I do about these breaks. Yeah, there's a lot of cool breaks out there for 5K plus, but are they really any better? Highly doubt it. These things look killer too. I took my rotors to get zinc washed, should be picking them up in a day or two. How are you planning on mounting the rears? The fab shop I used can make some for you if your interested that serve 3 purposes- hold axle in, mount caliper, and mount stock corvette backing plate for the park brake.(very nice)
|
Whoa!
Jeff, man thats killer. I love the wheels too.(can't read the name tough) they look like Forgeline V's. I got a complete conversion kit from KORE3 that places everything in the right place. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC04801.jpg Haven't tried 'em yet but seem VERY nice (of course im biased ;) Only thing now, as we show we like those brakes and are not afraid of saying it....More will go and get them and so they won't be as special soon. (YEAH' LIKE I CARED!!! I LIVE IN MONTREAL AND HERE NOBODY EVEN KNOWS WHAT PRO-TOURING IS!!!! Most are still into Pro- Street/ Street machines....we get them serious tough.) Good choice. Hey, what are you planning on running for master cyl and booster? I'm looking at hydroboost (learning about it slowly) and a wilwood master (its just too nice) Thanks guy's. Lead. Pics tonight! |

I wonder what could come close to that deal, performance and price wise. I looked and shopped around, and while i don't pretend knowing everything on brakes (far from there) i couldn't pass them up. (Even if they do have their drawbacks). I have no e-brake set up yet...And since i'm presently (and for the next season) runnin an auto trans i didn't really care about that issue. The car will be home either by end of week or beginning of next week, i'll be able to see where everything ends up. That bracket seems interesting for sure. How about a "Brakes" dedicated page on the site regarding different set ups used, parts #'s and availability. It sure would help people doing swaps. Lead. |
Hey Lead i would say that is a smokin deal! I also live in Canada and just got back from the GM Dealer. I had them price it all out with the part#'s and it came to over $4100.!!!!!!! I wished i had have gotten in on that GP

Shane, I think you can just call Dave at DBparts and he will set you up with the same deal (he had more than 20 kits selling in one day) I have a few friends working at GM dealers and had done the exercise too...Thats when i took my decision! I picked up my parts 5 minutes from the customs (on US side) and saved on Canadian shippping, broker fees etc so its a major econoomy! Hey, i always look at and like your car in your Avatar but have no way of seeing it fullsize. Got a pic laying around? Lead if you need Dave's coordinates let me know |
Big Brakes
Yeah, those are some pretty big rotors, and they'll look just killer behind those Forgelines. Rediculously huge, and I like it. Leadfoot, you mention that you can get rotors zinc washed so they don't rust or corrode, right. I'm doing up my first project, a 69 Charger R/T PT, and I bought a front disc conversion kit, but i don't think the rotors are zinc coated or that there's any corrosion inhibitor. What kind of place do you look for to get them zinc washed, and do any of you guys know of anyone that does that around the Winnipeg Manitoba area. Even around North Dakota or Minnesota?
|
Hey Redrider, welcome aboard!
I have yet to call the place i was told (by my best buddy). I'll do that right now.... Can't find the number wit 411. He'll have to dig in his papers i guess. I think any chrome shop should be able to help out. I'll let you know as soon as i get more info. I really want to do this, no way am i having rust on this car. Period. (well....There is still the rust i need to fix, but that doesn't count! We're talking new parts here!) Lead. And post some pics of that project when u get a chance! |
OLDZZY you may want to check out this website. It may be just what you are looking for!

Zinc Wash
4 Attachment(s)
Hey Leadfoot, so when you get rotors zinc washed, how does that work? does it impregnate the steel so that as the rotors wear the new metal is still rust inhibited, or is it just a surface coating that needs to be reapplied periodically? And as for pics of my project....I have a few from this summer....things were a little rushed, so i didn't get too many, but here they are. Quick recap....69 Charger R/T 440 4 speed red, black top, stripe, and interior

Thanks Jeff, I'm really interested in hydroboost. I like how it looks too. Did you use a special power steering pump (higher volume)? or a std? I read you might want to go HV to see full performance, again, i know squat 'bout those systems. RED, I spoke with the guy today (His name is Pierre/Pete) he actually is an ingineer so it was cool talking to him but he lost me from time to time with a few 20 letter words :willy: He was interesting to listen. He explained that the zinc is only actually a finish, it will dissapear the instant brakes will be applied (only where the pads rub) but that the rest (vents, center etc) will stay like new for a long time. So it sounds interesting. He told me the name of the company that does this and they are on my way a few times a week so i'll call and go see, because they offer 3 colours he told me. The price is a minimum 70$ charge so i could get some more parts to be done depending on what is their max parts allowed for the said 70$ Hope this clears some of it up. They do black...it might be cool (others are yello and clear) I asked about the kinda silver we usually see and he said that thats the regular color...That was not too clear. I'll go and see. We got a major ice storm today/tonight, half of the province is out of electricity (not us!) and i had a few buildings that we're out of it so it was a pretty busy day...(I manage/ build elderly houses for/ with my Dad, HEAT was the main concern here) Everything is fine now...But the shop is closed :-( Lead. Oh, you car looks like a great project! Got pics of the ragtop? what are you planning for it. I really want one of those big cruisers, i'd like a 62-65 Impala HT or rag, i don't care. Love 'em anyway. |
anyone have a link to the GP for these brakes I cant find it
|
Thanks Lead. That was something I was wondering. How do guys keep their rotors so clean and rust free, because that never looks good......especially behind some killer wheels. My car is in storage for the winter, so I won't be able to get at it until the spring. But if it's a zinc wash at a local chrome pit then I'll have no trouble doing that. As for plans for the car, it'll be running a mildly built 440 with a stock 4 speed. I want the whole car dropped by an inch all around....just a nice little clean up, running 17 inch Intro Pentias with black spokes. I have a nice big brake kit for it as well. I want something that looks like a stock Charger R/T that's got big brakes and wheels, but you have to look closer to see the slight drop, shaved antenna, suspension upgrades, etc. I don't want to hijack your thread, so I can PM you with more details if you like. It's my first project like this so I tend to be long winded. It's a curse. :D
