hey guys and girl..
i have been dinking arround with digital paintbooth and ive come up with this combination.. black top, orange stripe and charcoal sides.. the wheel is what i think im going to run.. feedback? the car is my 80 bu, ls1/4l60 (shrifter??) ATS/global-west suspension, bilsteins. any input ?? anything youŽd do different?? |
Color combo looks great... wheels, I don't like that they have 6-spokes.
|
i have had some headaches over the wheels also.. im just to cheap to but a set of kinesis wheels.. and these had somthing race inspired about them.. im just lookong for some wheels that look like they are chosen for function over bling...

Um, change the tranny to a T-56 and we will own twins.
|
I can tell you from experience, if you drop the frontend that much, and use ATS, you WILL be changing front wheel offsets, so don't buy wheels until you get the frontend done. I am looking at the protouring wheel by Boze. Check them out, they are a sponsor here. You will love the ATS stuff though, absolutely will change the car.

bill.. now thats scary

lol, not identical twins but it sure is close... the base coat i have for the sides is a little darker... i did a test panel (thats where i decided to do the pinstripe orange and not red) .. sorry for the crapy photo btw.
the boze wheels look killer, but at 5000 bucks for a set.. they are a little spendy, |
The wheels I am talking about are only about $2K a set.
The other picture I posted was before the paint job. Now my car is darker silver too. Just a red stripe with a chevy emblem painted into the stripe. That is btw a factory paint scheme. That is just the only one I could find real quick that was the proper size for this forum. PM me if you would like to see some of the pictures of front end work we did or C-5 brake (front and rear) on the car. |
Nice. A Bu! I love that era of Malibus. Nice look, a custom grill and small cowl hood would take the car to the next level. :unibrow:
|
bill.. PM sent.. and yeah, im installing C5 brakes too
|
I am really starting to like that body style. Been watching a few on ebay. I hope to pick on up before to long because I expect them to become hard to find down the road. Nice cars you guys
|
I like it.

As usual, I feel with my car I am a bit ahead of the curve, but thats ok. I did not buy or build it to resale. It is like a test mule. The one thing I will do with mine is narrow and remount the bumpers. I have seen this done on a couple cars and it really makes them look better. Think about a 72 Nova and a 73 Nova. The 73 is basically the same sheet metal, but had those horrible 5mph bumpers. Same thing with these cars, smaller bumpers really improve the overall looks of them. I am looking for a set of used ones now that we can cut up and rechrome. More on this later.
I feel they are the next big thing, but it may take another ten or so years for them to be big. However, anyone with a little spare coin and acreage would do well to buy up a few of these cheap cars and just sit on them. $3500 spent now on a very good one would be better than money in the bank. |
I love those Malibus and they have so much potential whether you just dump it on wheels or go full-kill with it! If I ever got one, I'd use the Cadillac CTS-V racecar for styling inspiration!
And as for the wheels, I love them bacause they aren't 5 spokes! Boze also has a 6 spoke called the Shifter but I'm not sure on cost. The 6 or 7 spokes will look TOUGH on there and give it a cool road race vibe. 18s and 19s would fill those wheelwells and make it look nasty! Fire up the credit card! |
 love those colors

I really like the paint, and the wheels are good too. I must agree with Bill on the bumpers. The first thing I think when I see those bumpers is "1970s cop car". I love the body lines and most everything else about the car though. |
iva managed to find a coupel of companies that sell tucked fibreglass front bumpers.. but they are all for elcos.. so the rear bumper doesnt fit.. looks like im goint to have to cut and rechrome.. that or make a mold of my rear bumper and shorten that and do my own fibreglass rear ..
but ill wait till next winter.. i also have to fit the ls1 and a million other things first.. perhaps could find a front end from a 1988 elcamino ss.. choices choices.... |
Honest Charlies sells the SS frontends like were on the SS Elcaminos
