Newbie just joined......what a site...you guys do amazing things.
Just bought my 68 Camaro, it's on the boat from New York to sunny Australia. Also just bought my 632 BBC from World...it's also about to be shipped. Can't wait. Plans for my Camaro are: IFS front end with 12 inch wilwood brakes, coilovers with 10cm ground clearance 4 link rear with shortened 9inch running 4.11 gears again lowered to 10cm ground clearance Torsioned chassis 632 Ci BBC with Hilborn scoop through the bonnet Turbo 400 with 3200 stall custom tailshaft 3inch Jethot headers and straight through pipes - may need to go 2.5" to clear T400 and tunnel Drop tank - with 10 ltr engine...need a big tank 16x7 Budnik "Bladerunner" wheels on front and 16x10 on the rear ...oh yeah it will be mini tubbed (DSE deep tubs)..aim for 335 tyres minimum on rear end smoothed and rolled firewall smoothed and rolled floor pan (possibly false floor due to legal issues in Oz) hidden everything (wires, hoses, booster etc) flush fitted glass all round shaved door handles shaved gutter rails Colour: Candy apple yellow with metallic flake + ghost flames custom "bowtie" LED brake lights Interior will be 4 custom buckets 2 front and 2 rear Dash will be customised so dash blends into tops of doors, and center console Centre console will run from top of dash all the way to top of rear parcel shelf Interior will be cream leather all round With lots of painted metal in console and doors Huge stereo including TV front and back Digital dash lots of other little tweaks here there and everwhere but you get the drift Project will start as soon as car arrives, expected build time 12-18 months. Will start posting photos as we go. Chris |
How come only 10" wide rim out back.
BTW sounds like a nice project mike a |
Tossing around 11" but probably no wider, can't cut the chassis rail legally in Oz and should be abe to get 335's on a 10" rim...

and welcome! :D Jody |
Welcome cant wait to see pics.

Welcome to the site. Sounds like a radical Camaro. :D
|
Welcome to board.
Nice Camaro, nothing like big cube's on the street |
Welcome to the site! Sounds like a killer car. How come only a 632" motor?? I would have went bigger...LOL!! :D Big motor...Small tire...sounds like alot of fun IMO!! Good luck with the build.
Brent |
Welcome. With that motor you probably should have an extra set of rear tires mounted and balanced in the trunk for easy replacement about every 500 miles, LOL. I want to see the burnout pictures on this one!!
|
GONNA NEED A CHUTE? Nothing says tire melting like 632...unless you go twin turbo. I am a new member, also. Welcome. Sweet ride, man.
|
335's
Probably going to need a 12 inch wheel for 335's... :willy:
|
Sounds sweet  , can't wait for pics :) .

Hey welcome to the board mate... Where in australia you from? I'm in north qld.... doing a 68 BB atm.
|
I am in Melbourne, agree everything is way more expensive, I'm only just starting and expect a 18+ months to build but will be awesome when done.
There is another guy in WA also doing a BB 68 on this board. |
i thought there were ristrictions on CI in australia, it must have been one of those thing that i heard from a friend of a friend kind of thing.
its awesome to see more camaro's in austalia, i have seen more ferrari's than camaro's lol. |
Seems there is a lot off restrictions in Australia, so for example how would you build a pro street or road racing car ...what about hi end custom cars.
I guess I am getting confused because off hearing different stories from different people. mike a |
Guys you got it.....especially in Victoria...lots of restrictions. My absolute dream car is a 68 prostreet with blown 427 BBC fully tubbed with cage.
But here is what you can't do: Engine protrusion can be no more than the horizontal plane of a 16 centimetre diametre circle at it's touch point rolled up the hood...confusing yes, but essentially means no more metal out the bonnet than about 3 inches Tubbed...can't cut the chassis so that's out Cage, can do a cage but means it's registered only as a 2 seater Many people still do prostreet etc, and get plates on them, but get pulled over a defected a lot. No restrictions on cubic inches. Well there sort of is, if the model came out as only 4 cylinder then you can only do 4, if maximum 6 then 6, if 8 then 8 .... you get the picture. So I'm OK for the 632 Ci in this car All in all I want a really tough streeter that is show quality, can do this just got to play inside the rules...but means it's short of my real dream. Also there are more and more Camaros in Oz which I agree is fantastic to see |
i never quite got any of those rules,
also on the engine coming out of the bonnet thing, my friend got done for having a hornet scoop on an XF and the scoop was only about 2 inches high, they said it restrictes visalblity, the kicker is my friend is over 6 foot, so that wasnt not really a problem. Quote:
but even with the restiction there are some mean cars being put together here in australia. cant wait to see some pictures of this one. |
Will be posting pictures once it gets started. Car due to arrive in late Jan, body and chassis shop already to get started...so in Feb the pics will start rolling out
|
why dont u register it first then do the mods maybe an engineer cert for a few of the mods so when u get pulled over pull out the paperwork :D just my 2 c
|
Thnaks, yeah even with the mods I am doing I still need an engineers cert...my plan is to be 100% legal hence no pro-street...
|
Pro-Touring must be picking up over there. We sent a bunch of parts to the Gold Coast not to long ago. Sounds like a bad puppy. Let us know if we can help. We have the shipping down.
|
Frank I will be in touch, I just read the article in Super Chevvy Magazine a week ago with your sons convertible 68, that is an awesome car, very impressed. A couple of mods you did I am keen to emulate, especially the dash, this is one area I wasn't sure how I was going to crack...I'll either do what you guys did or make a custom dash in full metal...to be decided. Good to hear on shipping I have a lot of stuff I need to ship down
