Is this worth it?.. 70 Chevelle.
I found a CLEAN 70 Chevelle Malibu close to my house without an engine.
it was an original 454 engine car with good doors, floors, and pans the interior is there and in fair shape with some sort of racing bucket seats. the chrome is in VERY good shape. the only few negatives are the front glass is cracked and the hood needs to be replaced there is very little rust in the wheel wells.. i talked to the guy and he said he used to drag the car.. but not hard.. i could tell from the doors when i opened them and shut them.. they close perfect! now im concidering picking it up.. he offered me a VERY cheap price. i probably will put in another 454 and flip it.. is it worth it? .. do these yeild a deicent price for a cloned ss or just throw in an engine and flip? here it is.. http://www.hostdub.com/albums/DarkDemon/Chevelle.jpg |
What is he asking?
|
1500.
|
Glass should not be a problem. I installed one last summer for a customer. Buying the car for the doors and chrome is worth it
|
I say throw another 454 in it, clean it up, put some new wheels, hood, windsheild on it, and flip it. I am no expert but I would think you should be able to at least double you money, even with the investment you will need to make for parts.
|
I would have bought it already.
|
Dude, All you have to do is spray it candy put a lift on it and some donks and it would sell the next day!
|
I'll play Devils Advocate here....
Wouldn't it have to be an SS car to be an original big block car? Rear wheel wells have been modified. Hood has a kink at the hinges. Right front bumper is pushed in under the head lights. ;) That is just a quick observation, but the rear quarters should be checked out pretty thorough, IMO. For the price, I think you are getting some nice metal, but I'd make sure that you are getting what the seller claims. I have been known to make some inpulse buys and wished that someone would have been an extra set of eyes for me. :_paranoid Good luck! Randy |
For $1500, I'd be all over that car.

$1500 is a good good price, looks and is described as a solid car. Just be careful and look it over reaaaalllyy well. Goodluck:thumbsup:

I'll take it...
|
I would buy it in a heart beat. acually if you don't buy it let me know and I will buy it.

Better check the VIN number...oh and buy it before someone else does.:wow: |
I think the whole cloning business is lame, especially since this is a group dedicated to fairly heavily modified musclecars and all the resto geeks are always nitpicking the details, even on real ones.
Which leads me to my suggestion to buy all the suspension bits and brakes you can afford and lower it down over some cool wheels and don't worry about all the SS stuff. It will be worth similar money to the fake SS and have a lot more style. You can probably even sell it right here to one of us! |
For $1,500 you can't go wrong. If you buy it and later on you decide that you don't want to follow through with building it up, you will always be able to get your money out of it.
Be very careful, though, if it is being sold this cheap, there may be hidden problems...make sure you inspect it thoroughly for hidden major issues like a bent frame, gallons of bondo, etc. -Rob |
Bring a magnet
|
yea i was considering not cloning it.. just a nice black with gunmetal stripes and a 454 with a set of 20s, play with it a few months then sell..
the reason its so cheap is the guy really doesn't know about rarities and such. he was a dragster and has a full on drag car in the shop. i checked the body and its very solid.. my bondo check was good there was just minimal rust in the wheel housings. both front and back.. the hood just needs to be replaced. im going to get it next week.. its funny ive seen it there for about 2 years and now im going to get it. |
Buy it for $1500, and sell it to me for like $2500, you'll make $1000(ish)... ;) (seriously, i'd be interested).
|
Thats a great price. I picked up a very similar 70 Chevelle for a customer. It was rolling but had a very decent body, no rot, 12 bolt posi and new welds with slicks. I paid $2800 and thought "I" got a good deal. Needless to say, after taking delivery and designing up one heck of a car, the client came to me with a different style car to do instead. Now I am looking for a buyer to follow through with my original design.
Anyhow... thats a great deal. Buy it, do the nessesary cosmetics and mechanicals and flip it (unless it comes out too nice, in which case keep it) |
Buy it and sell it to me, I'll double your money:unibrow:

It's pretty easy to pick out a true big-block car if it has 2 fuel lines, a 3/8" with a 1/4" return. L34 and LS5 were the only ones to recieve the 2 fuel lines. L78 and LS6 did not have a return line, but I don't believe either were available on a non-SS car, so if it has a single 3/8" line, it was a 350 car, and if it has a single 5/16" line, it was 307 or 6-cyl. |
nah i wasnt saying it came with a 454 from the factory
i was saying the guy USED to have a 454 in it when he was dragging it. but he didnt drag the car much.. weird as that is. and can you tell what it was from the Vin? 7013637RTO9967 |
7013637RTO9967
That looks more like the first line on the Trim Tag, rather than the VIN. 70- 1970 13637- Malibu Sport Coupe (V8) RT- Probably BT, which would mean Arlington Assembly Plant 09967- Plant Tracking Number -Todd |
I'll buy it if you dont and if you do. I can double your money right now.
|
I think '68 was the last year that you could determine if it was an SS from the VIN codes. A build sheet or protecto plate are really the only way to tell for sure. A 12 bolt and dual fuel lines are general indications that it may have been a big block car.
