That can not be Steve's car, it is tomato soup color:nopic:
And what's the deal with the black stripe in the paint booth. :faint: OH, and how did Steve buff the car and not get the pad dirty?????lol |
Guys, didn't you hear....
It's no longer PHR - Popular Hot Rodding it's PHR - Penny the Hot Rod |
This is Steve on Bill's computer:
Here's the deal with the March issue. It was set to be a "Paint and body issue". For this we needed to shoot a cover. Johnny asks me to find a bright colored musclecar that we could shoot in a paint booth type deal. Well, my '68 was at a paint shop and is a fairly bright color. Plus the guys at Best Of Show Coachworks are great to work with. The car isn't done but it was done enough for the shot. The graphics people killed the real color of the car. It looks like tomato soup on the cover. The pic inside the magazine (the paint story) was shot by me and more closely resembles the real color of the car. So, I sorta lucked out to get the cover.. Next month (April) the issues is all about the story. Three stories and sharing the cover. |
I just got my issue of hotrod in the mail 2 days ago and fuel is featured in it with beautiful pics. Or did everyone already know that cause I dont see anyone mentioning it.

I have been in the paper/ printing business for over 20 years. This is a huge mistake. Someone missed the boat big time signing off on this. Very embarrassing, I would be suprised if someone did not loose his/her job over this. Sorry to hear that, PHR has made great strides in both their articles and photo quality. Just a bump in the road I guess. R.P. |

Anyways, it's fun to have the car on the cover and anyone that has been following the stories inside the magazine knows what color the car really is. I should dig up the shot I did for the cover that didn't make it. I thought it was pretty cool even if it was of somebody elses car. |

It was shot in such a way that (to negate reflections like you see in my shot inside the magazine) this caused the paint to look a bit "flat". They tried to adjust the color to look more like my copperish color and missed. Since the pic is more about the message than my particular car they let it go since it fulfilled the need for a bright first gen coming out of a booth. If you look at the TABLE OF CONTENTS page you will see the small pic of the cover. The color of the car in that pic is actually closer to my color. In fairness to them it is a hard color to get right. I know how to set my camera for it, so my shots tend to come out more correct. I shot the lead spread for the PAINT story and the color is much closer. When in lots of light it looks more like the color in the LS2 install story. If you look at this pic: http://www.lifeinwidescreen.com/siihp/pennypaint.jpg that I took and then compare it to the cover you can see what I meant by the color being off. Then again I have a bunch of reflections in my shot. |
Steve,
The car looks great (even if the color is off a bit). I look forward to reading all of the articles starring "Penny".:unibrow: Scott |

I have always enjoyed the artistic photography of your puplication. It seems you guys have taken your magazine up a notch in the past couple of years. I was surprised thats all. Bye the way, excellent work on LS2 transplant article. You are starting to make me believe a novice like myself could go to town on this type of build. R.P. |

I encourage anyone that liked the LS2 install stories (or any other stories) to write the editor and let him know. If not the drag-race cam-install guys will be the only voices heard on magazine direction... |
Congrats Steve on the cover. Just got my issue today.
