Pro-touring
What exactly does "Pro-Touring" mean? I'm new to the muscle car world, i've always been a volkswagen man....lol.
|
It's a play on the term pro-street, but in a touring car sense.
|
thanks! so what specific equipment would I need to install to consider my 68 camaro "Pro-Touring"?
|
Imagine world class suspension, hi horsepower engines (to include turbo charging, fuel injection, engine management) huge brakes and luxery interiors, incredible paint (or suede) all installed on classic Hot Rod bodies from the 50's 60's and 70's. Oh and lots of good people and suppliers.
That's Pro-Touring to me. And lucky you...you've landed on the very best site for all of the above. Welcome! |
Can of worms: Open. lol
To me, pro-touring is (generally) a muscle car build style that has a primary focus on handling in a street car, bringing it up to modern sports car capabilities. |
I didn't mean to open a can of worms...lol....but thanks guys, that helps a lot.
|
Dont just bolt a set of 17's on your car and not lower it and call it
Pro-Touring.................You see a lot of that. Good Luck with your build:thumbsup: |
Any classic car that is built to not only go fast in a straight line, but turn and stop as well...:D

Hmmm... I kinda thought that Pro-Touring was a bit more hard-core semi-race car. I call my car more of a Pro-GT, a little more luxury and comfort when compared to the cars around here that are set up for track days. Still, I would think that any car that has serious improvements in the suspension, brakes, and power catagories would qualify. The coolest thing about Pro-Touring so far is that many cars fit into the mold, and people don't seem to get all upset about a "different" car. Shiny Side Up! Volkswagen guy huh? Well this should help explain it:
http://www.race-taxi.ch/ But that VW/Porsche is an extreme example. As long as it stops, steers and accelerates better than stock, it's pro-touring. |
Those crazy Swiss-Germans!
|
Thanks again guys, it's pretty clear to me what I need to do now
|
Volkswagon guy huh?
shooot.. peep my signature. i also was from that island. |
My 1st car was a 62 vw with 40hp at the flywheel. I put on tires, rims and flared fenders. I thought I was pretty cool. I also remember paying 25c a gallon at a cheapo gas station. And sorry, I don't know who Kenny Wayne Shepard is, but I'm on the older side.
|
welcome. i was also a vw guy at one time.
good luck with this stuff, and be careful. it gets much more expensive than you may have planned very quickly :unibrow: |
Now from a guy building a 65 Porsche with an C5 drive - I'm thinking a 62 split window bus lowered onto a Morrision GT chassis and full LS/Z06/C6 drive and suspension would be Really sweet - and look at all that room for an LCD wide screen, X-box, bazillion watt stereo, etc ....
yep, I'm a sick man . Jim |
