I kinda like the idea of a bracket on top of a 30lb battery that I am going to put in the trunk of my car.

Think of an OEM battery mounted in a new car. How is that mounted?

The lower mount is good enough for new cars to pass all the crash tests with. I'm sure it's ok here too. :)

True fact, but the battery is in front of you in an OEM setup.

I'm probably just picking nits, but the conventional design looks safer to me.

The battery is moving just as fast in the back of the car as in the front.. ;)

Just kidding, I would think that a bracket OVER the battery would be more secure, however the question would be "does it need to be more secure?"

In any event, this is a nice clean design.

This approach will make battery swaps easier in tight locations.
If you will be mounting your battery in the trunk such that it is partially covered by the top of the quarter panel, then the top mount clamps can be a pain in the ass when changing out your battery. The quarter panel prevents you from lifting the battery up and out. And the bars that connect the base to the top clamp can get in the way as well.

I just went thru this on the red car which has a fuel pump controller located to the rear of the battery. That keeps me from sliding the battery rearward to remove it. The only solution is to remove the battery hold down from under the car and slide the whole assembly out, then take apart the top clamp. Very annoying!! This design would have saved a buch of time.

Too bad the car is back together and I already purchased another top clamp design for the blue car. One week too late.
