air ride technologies air bar question

has anyone heard any information on people running coilovers on the airbar setup instead of the airbags? thanks for any info.

ProdigyCustoms 04-18-2007 07:03 PM

We have a great deal on the Chris Alston G bar which is a Air bar with Vari Shocks coil overs. For less then $1600 your set.

ArisESQ 04-18-2007 09:10 PM

hm, that sounds pretty interesting.
do you have any personal opinions on the setup? how does it compare to the quadra link? thanks again!

ProdigyCustoms 04-18-2007 10:01 PM

I like it alot. It is a true bolt in with the only welded required being some tabs on the rear for the inner bars to attach. I like triangulated 4 bars, and for ease of installation, and cost, it is pretty hard to beat.

There is no doubt a good 3 link is the best hard core race suspension. Just a bit more fabricating and cost then a G bar.

As for comparing it to a Quadra Link. I cannot say one is better then the other. I think they are both good. For a do it yourselfer, the G bar is a easier install, and less money.

ArisESQ 04-18-2007 10:36 PM

thanks again! you may have just sold me on it :unibrow:

Mr.VENGEANCE 04-18-2007 10:46 PM

Frank I have been eyeing this system for a while. Can you tell me your honest opinion, would my tailpipes have to be re-built in order to clear the G-bar setup? Darren posted a pic a while back that looked like the tailpipes had to be moved. Reason I ask is my new exhaust cost quite a bit of $$$ and I'd hate to have to rebuild it. But I really want a setup with ride height adjustability.

I'm thinking of a 4 link from Alston as well. Do you have any pictures of it?

ProdigyCustoms 04-19-2007 05:40 AM

Ryan, it would be hard to say if a given exhaust will fit or not as no 2 systems are indentical. There does seem to be a bit more room with the smaller diameter Coil overs then with the Shockwaves. But even with Shockwaves exhaust can be snaked through. I would imagine that even if your tailpipes did require some modifications, it would be pretty simple stuff.

Mike, let me see what I can find for pictures.

Stainless Works was working on a tail pipe specific for this suspension. Here are some pics of how we routed the exhaust on our car.

ProdigyCustoms 04-19-2007 09:07 AM

Looks like some tank notchs and there would be even more room

ArisESQ 04-19-2007 04:51 PM

ok one other question:

it looks like the G bar uses the same mounts as the leaf springs.. would i be able to do a mini tub with just the Gbar, or do i need to get creative on the mounting points or something.

ProdigyCustoms 04-19-2007 05:47 PM

Mini tub works great with a G bar.

ArisESQ 04-19-2007 05:51 PM

fantastic news.

wiedemab 04-19-2007 07:46 PM

Exhaust under the rear axle?

mazspeed 04-19-2007 10:25 PM

No pictures of the g setup? Frank, did you find any?

Yea, it actually works out a lot better. Doesn't really hang down any lower than the mufflers.

70ptta 04-20-2007 06:53 PM

Does any one know if I can get some 335s with a mini tub and the g-bar on a 2nd gen f-body?

Mean 69 04-20-2007 07:29 PM

I know you can fit 335's under the car, with a mini-tub using the stock inner fenderwells (modified slightly), exhaust over the rear axle, and the uber-cool Lateral Dynamics 3-Link... ;)

Mark

70ptta 04-20-2007 11:41 PM

I would love that LD set up if I could keep my 12 bolt.

TravisB 04-21-2007 12:03 AM

I dont think the g bar will work with a mini tub........you will ahve to relocate the forward and rear mounting point of the lower arm......cause the tire will hit the lower bar:yes:

darren@ridetech 04-23-2007 01:18 PM

You can use a minitub, but to get that wide of a tire you would probably have to do something with the lower bar.

70ptta 04-23-2007 06:16 PM

Will changing the mounting points hurt the performance? And is it alot of work?

Shouldn't effect the performance im guessing they would only have ot moved about 2"

70ptta 04-25-2007 11:08 PM

does any one have good pics showing what has to move and at what points

ArisESQ 04-26-2007 01:32 AM

i don't have any pics, but based on what i see and know of the kit, i believe that the two lower links would get in the way of a wide tire, since they basically mount up like half of a leaf spring (someone please corect me if im wrong)... so i assume that to fix this, you would need to move the leaf spring bracket that would normally sit at the ends of the axles in a few inches, along with the front mounts.

no correction needed. That is what i was thinking as well. The one we installed only had 8' wheels on it with a 275/35/R20 tire on it... and there mave have been 1.5 in there or so maybe 2"of room between the link bar and the tire

DRJDVM's '69 04-27-2007 11:44 AM

I'm in the process of moving the mounts inward for my Air Bar set-up in my 70 Barracuda.

Basically I'm just moving the forward mount inboard as much as possible and making a new bracket to match the factory mount holes. Its going to take alittle fabrication, but not a big deal. For the rear mount, I just need to move the perches inward on the rearend.

For my application its going to increase my tire clearence by about 1.75-2 inches.

The application you guys are discussing may be differnt, but I'm post some pix when I'm done with mine.

Leadfoot1 05-02-2007 06:56 PM

What kinda car you have again?

I have the Airbar (same thing) and am running 20 x 13 w/345 tires and have no tire fitment issue.

Its close ('bout 3/4") but it fits.

This is on a 69 Camaro.

Even with the leaf test fitting and taking measures, there was like an inch and a half in the front "tire to leaf" contact part (Rear contact part doesn't count because when you use the lower Airbar rod as there's nothing to hit the tire anymore) left before i hit the leaf, ok, now i need to cut the housing some to get the tire in ( like 1 inch to be able to drop the car, max 1 and a half) but its going to fit because the lower bar is 1/2 the size of the leaf. So i have like almost 3/4" clearance from tire to bar leaving the axle pad where it is. Worst scenario, i unweld the front attaching point of the bar to the bushing sleeve and take it in some, adjusting at the axle mount. I already asked Darren why they haven'T built it like the Quadra link, offsetted in the front so the gained space would be 'Built in'.

Hope this helps.

Lead.

Frank, did you start manufacturing those hard covers for the 'vert's tops? I'm getting there!

ProdigyCustoms 05-02-2007 09:44 PM

Right now we finished up the Monte Carlo wheel flares today and are doing Carbon Fiber hood, deck lid molds, then the hard boot molds next. The deck lids and hood will be done very soon, so we are not far away from starting the boot.

Leadfoot1 05-03-2007 06:18 AM

Great news!

Put my name on the list for a cover!

Are you planning on letting the top face of the CF hoods finished or are you going to put some primer on 'em to hide the work....I heard Year1 sell's them primed to do just that...I was interested until i read that.

Knowing you a bit, i suppose we can expect the very best of finish!

Mario

ProdigyCustoms 05-03-2007 07:42 AM

I am doing the Trans Am Hood first. And no we will not be priming them

Leadfoot1 05-03-2007 10:11 AM

:woot:

Then thats my name on two lists!

M.

Now back to your regular thread....Sorry for the highjack guy's (but its for a good cause and good news!)

Do you, or anyone you know, offer the G-bar kit WIHTOUT the coilovers? I have some coilovers already that I'd like to use and only need the 4-link assembly. Thanks!

We have it available but it is not much cheaper without the shocks. Since this post started the G Bars are up $100 to $1700 shippied and the G bar without shocks is $1500 shipped. So your only saving $200 for $400 worth of shocks
