Street Machine of the Year Preview
Hi guys. First time post. This is a really bitchin' forum. Just found it today. I need help from the masses! I'm doing a web-preview on this year's Goodguys/Air Ride Technologies Street Machine of the Year Award contestants and would like to promote who's coming!
If you are planning your trip to Columbus for the 10th PPG Nationals, July 13-15 at the Ohio Expo Center and plan on entering the SMOY competition, please let me know and you will be included! Here's a little rundown on the award. Event: Goodguys 10th PPG Nationals, July 13-15, Ohio Expo Center, Columbus What: Goodguys/Air Ride Technologies Street Machine of the Year Award Who's Eligible: Street Machines 1954 through 1972 vintage. How to Enter: Register for the event at www.good-guys.com or by phone at (925) 838-9876. Once at the event, park your Sreet Machine inside the "Pro's Pick" area on Saturday, July 14th. We will select the top 5 from the Pro's Pick area. Basic Criteria: We're looking for a street machine which contains the elements of performance, handling, stance, quality of craftsmanship and functionality. For the preview article I would like a basic tech sheet (nothing too crazy) and a few photos. If no photos are available a rendering would be cool too. Shoot me your info and photos via e-mail to: [email protected] Thank you so much for your time and allowing Goodguys to participate in this great forum! |
welcome John. I think I know of one, but I'll contact them first.

Welcome, John. We'd be happy to help Good Guys in any way possible.
I think this should be a sticky topic so it gets maximum exposure. |
So if we are going to run for SMOTY we send a email with out tech sheet to you at this address [email protected] ?
Thanks |

Hey John,
hope all is going well with you guys. I will be out at the show with a car we just finished. Its stock looking so I dont think we have a chance with this the customer just wanted a bad ass stock 70 Chevelle SS convertible so look for it at the show. its super clean see you out there |
Any early front runner ideas? I think Bobby alloways comming in his mustang isnt he? He's always hard to guard at the Natioanls
|
IMHO I have to think unless something sneaks out, it is the Ring Brothers year. Reactor is a fricken work of art and clearly the class of the field. Alloways Mustang is not my cup of tea but is pretty slick and typical top shelf Alloway craftsmenship. The 55 Chevy that won the Year One cup is pretty damn nice.
|
i agree with frank. i think reactor is the clear front runner.
|
Cant wait to see them all should be a great year
|
I know of a couple of serious bad cars coming out here this year and as coveted as the SMoTY award is getting to be, I doubt you will see any pictures of any serious contenders up here.........:_paranoid
|
The owner of Reactor is Doug Hoppe,he is pretty upset with the car being called Rings mustang,no harm done,he just wanted to let people know.Told me he is going to join site.
|
I dont know about that.... It being coined as "a Ring Bro's Mustang" is saying something. Those guys build some phenomenal cars.

alloway is in his own class this year no other car that will be there will be that qaulity of his car top and bottom. He has been second the last two or three years and this is his year. Alloway will take street machine and troy will take street rod. Thats my two cents

As far as SMOY, That NASTY 70 Chevelle at the Memphis Power Tour stop will be a serious contender if he's there. That car was SICK! The intake and rear suspension looked like they were off an ALMS car. |

Got a few pics??? Lead. BTW, i don't like the Alloway Mustang's style, i can appreciate the build quality tough and will even understand trying to start a new trend in "Rodding" Musclecars because Rods is what he's good at, but i think its mostly the color choice i don't like, that blue really has nothing for it and also, a Muscle car needs door handles...Anyone feels like Photoshoppin' that thing a bit, black maybe? Or even a darker Blue hue? |

go to open disscussion and look for jjarkys post that says power tour memphis pics |
Thanks Travis!
Nice car indeed. (and general great pics) Looking forward to seeing more of it, Lead. |
i just dont see how that cars "rodded"?
Since BJ Cuda its the best built G machine IMO |
I SEE MOST OF THE BIG NAME ROD SHOPS MOVEING MORE AND MORE INTO THE STREET MACHINE SIDE BECAUSE OF TWO THINGS. FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANLY IS THAT THE MONEY SPENDING CUSTOMER BASE IS MOVEING IN THAT DIRECTION. AND SECONDLY THE STREET ROD SCEAN HAS BASICLY REACHED IT'S PEAK IN A WAY. THEY ARE SPENDING MILLION'S OF DOLLAR'S TO HAND BUILD CUSTOM 36 TO 38 FORD'S TO BE UNIQUE ONE OF A KIND STATEMENT'S YET SOMEHOW THEY ARE LOOKING ALL THE SAME. DON'T GET ME WRONG IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME AND THE STREET MACHINE CROWD WILL DO THE SAME. JOHNSON'S CUDA BEING A VERY PRIME EXSAMPLE. I WILL NEVER HAVE THE PERSONEL FUND'S OR THE CUSTOMER BASE WITH THAT KIND OF MONEY TO BUILD SOMETHING AT THAT LEVEL. BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A TREND MOVEING TOWARD'S THE OLD DARE TO BE DIFFERENT THEME AGAIN. MUSTANGS AND CAMARO'S AND CHEVELLE'S ECT.ECT. ARE GREAT BUT AGAIN THEY ARE STARTING TO LOOK THE SAME. AND AS FAR AS THE RING BROTHER'S REACTOR PRODJECT. I AM NOT IMPRESSED. THE WORKMANSHIP IS OUT STANDING BUT THE STYLE IS BECOMEING REPETITIVE. A SIDE FROM A FEW SCOOPS AND DEW DADS IT IS THE BLACK KONA CAR ALL OVER AGAIN. THE RED CONVERTABLE THEY DID A FEW YEAR'S BACK SET THE MUSTANG WORLD ON IT'S EAR'S. AND YET THE ESSENCE OF THE CAR AND IT'S MECHANICAL'S WERE VERY SIMPLE AND STRAIGHT FORWARD. SOMETHING OF THIS NATURE COULD BE BUILT AFFORDABLY. OH WELL ENOUGH OF MY SOAP BOXING. YOU GUY'S HAVE A GREAT DAY. LATER LARRY
