I've been a member of this forum since '04 Project Car is 1965 GTO
Here is a link to the car and video:
https://lateral-g.net/members/campisi/ Pics of the motor that I'm trying to finish asap http://s162.photobucket.com/albums/t...0GTO%20engine/ I'm stressing out about the wheel and tire combo. I know most people build a car around the tire combo, but I know new wheels come out all of the time, I just did not want to buy multiple sets throughout the project. If anyone has an Idea of a wheel/rim let me know. The 65 is not as cool as some of the camaro builds but, it is different and this is why I'm having such a hard time choosing. I'm bolting on the rear bumper this weekend. I did this whole car in the my garage, I used a paint shops spray booth to paint and had a friend/perfectionist do the panel work and spray it. We are just doing the final wet sanding and polishing. I just ordered my License plate JEKLNHYD and if you read the write-up on later-g you will see that I wrote that a couple of years ago and it finally clicked that it should also be the plate on the car. I've spent a lot of time with my 2 girls now the age of 13 and 12 yrs working on the car. They are amazing technicians. Kristina my youngest was the front end specialist and Talia my oldest helped with assembly of the LS6 and setting up the rear suspension. As I mentioned earlier, the car never left my side because I thought I could finish it sooner than a shop around here in Long Island NY but maybe I was wrong - it has been almost 4 years. All that I do know is that the car is perfect so far, and I can't imagine anyone else being so complete in detail without costing my Kids College fund! (LOL) I also have a Polished Magnuson with modified pulley that delivers 14lbs of boost on my forged bottom end. This is where the Jekyl and Hyde comes into play, have you ever heard the whine/scream of a Maggie under boost? It's is scary. Thanks Chris |
Good intro, Chris. You have an awesome shop.
I think your member page on Lateral-g is one of the best since we embedded the YouTube video. Wheels, now that's a tough one! What size are you looking at? |
Nice Car Chris!

wheels?
Hey, love your GTO. It is hard to choose a set of wheels, different tastes and different themes for cars. For me, maybe an Intro Vista wheel, looks like an old Hurst wheel, which were famous on GTOs like yours. You could have red line tires, too - if you want to push the retro thing a bit.
see the web sight below. http://www.introwheels.com/pages/w_e...5_polished.php that's my vote anyway. Maybe you could describe the theme of the vehicle you are going for? |
awesome car and sick shop!, whats that black stuff u have on the floor under the lift?
|
BANDIT LS1 - The black fooring is called MotorMat
http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/...6-MM-TILE.html 67BLACKBIRD - The Intro Vist wheels have a nice look - I want something to be agressive yet at the same time be different. I like these wheels exactly the way they are. But they were one-offs I think. http://www.popularhotrodding.com/fea...olet_chevelle/ |
Ah, Desmond's ride. Yep, those are one-offs (at least they were at the time). That guy is a character.
Brent knows him quite well. |
Those wheels are based on the Bonspeed Delta. I have them on my car. Pics in sig.
|
Seems like everyone loves these wheels. While you might not want to copy it exactly, Forgeline does have some other nice designs.

Thanks frank I will look at the forgeline now. I was just on the Bonspeed, intro wheels websites. I'm 41 and I have an old school eye for a wheel and it is hard to break down and get a 18"/19" combo. I like this also ---> http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/fe..._chevy_malibu/
2 totally different looks - comparing the delta/desmond wheel to the link. Some of the problem is also traction. I now have a 2001 Z06 with 520rwhp naturally asp and if I don't run a ET Street on the car and run my CCW's with 19" pirelli's the tires spin from here to Cali. I'm a nut and rarely drive any of my cars under redline (lol) I love the "hair on fire" 7000 rpm shifts - what more is there to live for. So with that said I also need traction. I guess with so many drag radial sizes available I could always put them on too. |

mmmm! what are you saying - you think that is too old of a look? Are we beyond that skinny/fattie look?

Nice car.
I have a custom set of 255/18 and 295/20 redlines for sale and am on Long Island also if you are interested. They are made from BFG Comp's with the sidewalls shaved and the redline fused in not painted new in wrapper. The 20's were one of the 1st set they did. Saw your redlines and thought there might be interest. Car sold before they were installed. Actually I am not really into the big tire deal either but it is what sells right now. If you look into Perelli they re issued the Countach rear tire size which is a either 345 0r 335 15 which is 26' tall but super wide. Not a drag radial but great for handling. May have to massage those wheel houses a bit. Also look into Oasis wheels they have a dead ringer for the old Hurst wheel but are one piece and the offsets and sizes are limited but are cheap and are 17's or 18's. Good luck, |
Wheels
Hey Chris Have you looked into www.Bozeforged.com their protouring rim would look very cool as well as their Tach rim. They are a good bunch of guys over there, ask for Larry he will hook you up with what ever you need.
|
I definitely agree, Larry is a great guy. I just spoke with him yesterday, and it's nice when you get to talk to people like that on the phone.

I'm in the same dilemma as you so I feel your pain as far as trying to decide on wheels! I guess, for me, what it comes down to is what kind of look to I want for the car? Clean or Mean? Euro or American Muscle? New School or Old School? Once you make those decisions then you can move on and narrow the choices you have!
Good Luck! John |
Yeah novanut -
You're right and figuring that out is almost impossible for me. The camaro's and nova's look great with any wheel - But my 65 is sort of ugly. I was wondering, if I go with an old school look will I be kicked off of the site? LOL! My goal is to have the car look schooled enough to get into one of the magazines. My kids put a lot of effort into this car and it would be a great memory and learning experience. The experience is that you can take a ****box to WOW with hard work and effort. I wanted to give up a few times but the interpretation the kids would have would not be good. That would be "when the going gets tough the tough give up.! This way they are learning a life lesson, which is never do what dad did. (ha) Thanks Judgement - Bozeforged has nice stuff too. Kills me when I look through the sites and see the great selections. I found this link http://www.autowaretech9.net/nextwheels/newstal.htm Brian send me a link to the redline tires that you have for sale. I will entertain the thought. PRRC - I'm trying to find out the max size that would fit on the 65 a-body without mini-tubbin it. Is there a guideline book that gives that info or do I need to start taking some serious measurements? I did not mini-tub just incase someone wanted to plunk a pontiac motor in her when I'm done and put her back semi stock. |
Does anyone know what this rim/wheel might be? I've searched but no luck.

Chris,
I had Diamondback make them for me about 1 1/2 years ago. They are still in the wrapper. They would require mini tub to fit on your car. I can do tub if needed. What about these (if they show up?)??? |
