Hand Operated Parking Brake in a F-Body?
 

Hello:

Has anyone installed the parking brake in their car that is pulled by the hand instead of pushed by foot?

If so, what kind did you use and where did you mount it.

I prefer this type of arrangement, but haven't seen any in the 1st Gen Camaros.

Is there a reason they are not being done?

I used the universal kit from Lokar...as Mark did in The Mule. Jason also did it in Fuel.

I used the lokar as well
 

I had to run mine on the top of the tunnel because I raised the motor in the car. Using a 1 inch drop frame with shorter subframe bushings, the brake hit the drive shaft. Just a heads up.

The Mule has a Lokar and I had put one in a 32 Ford I had. My real world opinion is the Lokar does not have enough leverage. They are too hard to pull...aka the handle is too short. In a panic situation I think it would be lacking. I have driven cars with factory hand pull levers that worked much better. I just replaced the assembly in the Mule because of broken parts in it. Now the button on the new one popped off and I am taking it apart again. The Lokar would not be my first choice. If you can find a factory lever that would work it would probably be a better piece.

I would definitely want the mechanism to be dependable AND easy to use. Anything short of this would be dumb IMHO.

Has anyone used the Corvette Hand Brake?

I still have a hand brake from a 4th gen camaro I might take a look at...thanks Charley for the feed back! However I'm sure the Lokar will work for as little as I will drive this car...it can't be a DD with my job. Perhaps I should fill the hole I cut in the floor and go with a foot brake....

In my opinion, unless you are going to thrash you car or use it to drift with, the Lokar unit will work just fine. I mounted mine above the floor tunnel and ran the cables under the console ( which runs all the way to the back of the seats) and exits near the rear wheels. This really cleaned up the under carriage for that show car look.
