Project??? 1970 Nova
So here we go... Im building a 1970 Chevy Nova coupe...it was originally a 4 banger from the factory, and when i got it blasted it had soo much paint on it im not sure what the original color was...I believe it was white originally, but I cant be sure. Currently I'm trying to decide on the color...Im looking at pearl tangerine, kandy apple red, and I'm also considering black on black all over...any input would be appreciated...this is a father son build that I am doing with my father, hopefully this car will be done in time for me to drive it to senior prom, but its currently in jail (the body shop) and I can't do any work on it, I'm assembling the engine now, its a 396, and it should put out about 400 hp ish...
Now for the plans for the car: - Art Morrison front clip with all C5 components - Detroit Speed Engineering Quadralink Rear - Mini Tubbed Rear - 12 Bolt GM Rear - 2 inch cowl hood - 13" and 14" willwood drilled and slotted zinc coated rotors all around - Wheels have not been decided on yet... I am thinking something like these though: http://www.bozeforged.com/images/whe...touring_bg.gif or http://www.bozeforged.com/images/wheels/ze/flyte_bg.gif - Seats will hopefully be something like the Corbeau CR1's I cant decide if i want to go with a black leather interior or a more beige color -I would like to put in a harness like these: http://corbeau.com/products/2_inch_belts/master_02.jpg - If I cant convince my dad to let me put in a cage then I wont put harnesses in but if I win on the cage argument then I plan on putting something simple in like this: http://www.artmorrison.com/uploads/12_2.jpg - I plan on a simple rear seat nothing too special - Cant decide on the instrument cluster yet - For the steering wheel im thinking the Sparco Lap 5: http://www.bersus.info/VolanteSparco/lap5-2.jpg - I plan on fabbing some sort of custom center consol, wrapped in leather and accented with carbon fiber - Car will have powering windows - Exhust will exit right before the rear wheels, dont know what setup specifically - I am planning for some sort of phantom grill that hides the headlights behind it...something probly like a mesch grill - I plan to make a camaro front spoiler fit onto the front of mine |
AND NOW...the pictures of our victim...

are you sure it wasnt a 6 banger, I dont think GM ever put a four in these novas.
|
never mind, I just looked that up, I guess you learn something new everyday!

first of all welcome to the site.. the project looks straight and well thought out. i like the idea of adding an RS/SS grille, and the tangerine candy sounds sharp.. but the time constraints sounds alittle unrealistic... id love to be proven wrong on that one though..
keep us posted whenever you have pics.. sounds like a killer in the works and once again wellcome |
correction on the four banger part. gm did put 4 banger even in this body stile nova. i almost bought one just cause of how rare it is, they had a 153ci l4, with a torque drive trany, pretty basic car. will try and post pics and more info later

Looks like a great project and I like the direction you're headed in. It's great to see Novas getting so popular. Keep us posted!

Regarding the color.....I'll throw my $.02 in on copper/tangerine/orange pearl etc. I'm a huge fan of these colors in general and have enjoyed seeing them on tons of cars in recent years. However, within a few years the trend will be gone, just like the teal/aquas of the mid-90's and the Chameleon flip-flop paints from the late 90's. There's nothing that dates a car more than color (and wheels) and I really think the sun is beginning to set on the copper colors, not to mention 2-tone schemes. There will probably be some variations that stay fresh but it's just something to consider.
For instance, by the time I get my Nova painted, the Infiniti Garnet Fire (copperish red) will look "so 05-06." On the other hand, playing it safe may not allow you to stand out....Black, red, silver...they are timeless and appeal to more people (good for resale). It's sort of like how home contractors paint the walls "contractor white" and install tan carpet....it goes with everything. |
I have to agree...that actually really helped with my decision, I think that I will probly go with a black or red...
I somehow forgot the specs on the engine...here is the list of parts

I agree the copper and burnt ornage is being so played out now adays everyone is running these colors much nicer colors to work with but thats MY
.03 cents |
does anyone know where I can find a picture of a 68-70 nova with the 153 ci 4 cylinder in it? i am just intruiged by the idea that it did in fact exist and would like to see it for myself.

good advice
just wanted to chime in and say that I thought Ben Hermance's advice regarding color was right on the money. We all know it ain't cheap or easy to paint a car, so unless you are in love with a trendy or specific color you'll probably thank yourself in a couple of years by making a safer bet.
Keep dishing the good advice, Ben. Thanks Bill 68 RS Z/28 68 RS Camaro Convertible |
thanks guys...i understand what yall are saying regarding the color...i need to get renderings done so that i can see the different colors...and i came up with a project name...project indecision...ive had such are hard time actually deciding on what i want to do to the car... the color, the engine, the interior, the suspension, you name it ive probly changed from my initial 5 ideas...i cant seem to settle hahah
