College (Boredom) Projects, Input wanted.
 

Well, with lots of free time on my hands between classes, and late nights (pun intended), I find myself designing tons of crap for the hell of it. I have already designed my IRS & Full Frame/Cage. So I have been searching for ideas of stuff to design/make.

I already have a shipment of A-Body solid mounts coming in, which I designed myself and am having a production company run off sets of them, but the most intrest I've had in those was a couple of emails. My prototypes should be here Tues/Wed next week, so lets hope more people get interested in those. :lol:

So my question is, what would you guys like to see made?

I am personally planning to make a Carbon/Billet Heater Delete panel for Late Night. Should I consider making some for 1st Gen F-Bods?

Let me know what you want made, I have the time.. :unibrow:

Everyone I know (including myself) has had a difficult time with the reproduction window reveal trim on just about any old car. The Camaro stuff is tricky for a couple reasons... it's thin, and it's not quite 100% accurate, so the original clips can have a hard time grabbing the trim, and you always end up distorting it when you put any pressure on it.

Take a look at any Camaro or Chevelle... chances are, the trim shows some sort of imperfection, because it's really, really hard to install and fit properly.

I often wonder if a set of billet window trim pieces could be made. They would be solid, so they wouldn't use the original clips, so a new mounting system using either the original studs or some other means would have to be designed. They could be "massaged" to fit the car by means of sanding / shaping on the inside. They could be finished in any finish billet aluminum can handle, polish, brushed, paint, powder, etc.

I have no idea how to do it, but I think alot of builders would appreciate some sort of improvement on these parts. Perhaps you could come up with something!

That would be cool to see,but looking at that from a manufacturing stand point, that would be expensive and one heck of a machining nightmare.

Something that might sell is a set of custom emblems that use factory mounting locations. If you set up the design process right and get a decent Cad/Cam program, you could design at home and hook up with your CNC shop to make them.

After tool up and debugging,you could probably get a set done in 3-4 hours.
Maybe even offer up some design work as a horse trade and cut your shop bill down.

Who knows maybe you could get them to put you on the payroll.

How 'bout some 3d pics of your frame and stuff?

KO, Interesting idea on the reveal mouldings. I have a couple ideas, already. I think the front is do-able in a solid singluar piece, less the bracketry that would have to be installed prior. But the rear might require a two-piece design.

Doug, I don't actually machine the parts. I apologize if there was any confusion. I simply do not have a place to do it. The university hasn't given me the key to the machine shop, yet. :_paranoid

As far as the IRS/Frame picture deal, I would like to finish up the IFS & Brake package before I post anything up. :thumbsup:

I don't think it would be that much of a "machining nightmare". If you machined them, yes maybe. What about extruded aluminum for the long sections and just machine the corners??? The long extruded sections could be easily bent/bowed into the proper shape. Just a thought....

That's more what I was thinking, but it would then have to be 5 pieces for the front and 8 for the rear..

Anyone in the Orlando Area or South Florida Region have a First Gen (perferably glass removed) or installed, less trim, want to allow me to take some measurements? :dance:
